Zombie Apocalypse: I Have Safe Zone Superpower

Chapter 468: Silent Treatment

Chapter 468: Chapter 468: Silent Treatment

The moment those words left Ivy’s mouth, panic flooded Arnold’s chest like icy water.

His breath turned shallow as memories surfaced, Cain’s cold warning echoing clearly in his head.

’If I go back to the Black Vultures and get kicked out of the base, I’m dead.’

The thought made his knees weaken.

Without thinking, Arnold dropped to the ground in front of Martha.

He began slapping himself, the sharp sounds drawing gasps from the crowd.

"I’m sorry. I’m really sorry. I love you too much, Martha. That’s why I tried to demand more for you. I got greedy. I let my love blind me."

His voice cracked as desperation spilled out.

"I swear, from now on, I won’t interfere in your matters. Even if you’re suffering, I’ll turn a blind eye. I won’t cross the line again."

A strange silence followed.

People stared at Arnold with expressions that slowly twisted into disbelief.

Finally, someone in the crowd shook their head, a dry scoff escaping them.

"Young men these days have such strange fetishes. Always dragging others down and calling it love."

The comment struck a chord. Others nodded in agreement.

They had all seen how Ivy treated Martha, with genuine care and trust. Martha’s salary alone exceeded that of generals risking their lives against zombies. Anyone with eyes could tell she was valued.

Arnold hadn’t expected this. ’Why aren’t they believing me?’

Panic tightened his throat.

Before he could speak again, Ivy raised her hand calmly. At her signal, several guards stepped forward, their boots thudding against the ground.

"This man appears mentally unstable and suspicious. Detain him and conduct a proper investigation."

The guards nodded and grabbed Arnold firmly.

"No... wait!" Arnold struggled violently, his voice cracking as he called out, "Martha! Martha!"

As he was dragged away, realization dawned on him that he was truly being abandoned. His fear erupted into a desperate scream.

"I love you, Martha!"

Martha rolled her eyes inwardly, a tired sigh slipping past her lips.

"I love you too," she replied dryly, her sarcasm obvious to anyone listening.

’Trying to harvest sympathy even now,’ she thought coldly.

Ivy glanced at Martha, relief softening her sharp gaze."You finally saw things clearly."

Martha nodded, guilt pressing against her chest.

"I acted ungratefully before. I don’t even know how I’ll face you after this."

Ivy let out a light chuckle.

"You did nothing wrong. Thinking about your own benefit is human. If people only cared about others, wouldn’t they just get scammed endlessly?"

Martha laughed, nodding in agreement, the tension finally easing.

As the two chatted and laughed together, Kael watched from a distance, his hands clenched. ’I can’t interfere.’

He knew it painfully well. ’I don’t even have the right.’

His gaze lingered on Martha, affection and regret swirling in his eyes, when suddenly a hand tapped his shoulder.

He spun instantly, sword flashing out with a sharp metallic sound, heart racing... only to freeze when he recognized Silas standing there.

Silas raised an eyebrow. "Easy."

Kael quickly lowered his sword, embarrassment flashing across his face. "I thought a thief showed up."

As he spoke, his eyes drifted back to Martha instinctively.

Silas followed his gaze and sighed, shaking his head. "What have you been doing these past few days?"

Kael hesitated, then pulled out his letter, explaining everything he had done wrong, how he had hurt Martha, and how he had messed everything up.

Listening, Silas couldn’t help but recall his own past, the memory of sharing a pillow with the same woman.

’At least I never crossed that line,’ he thought grimly. ’Otherwise, Ivy might not be standing beside me now.’

Taking a deep breath, Silas spoke earnestly.

"You need to clarify everything with Martha. Immediately. She’s already been influenced once. Next time, it won’t necessarily be someone fake like Arnold. Someone genuinely good might come along."

His voice turned heavy. "And then you’ll be the one crying in some corner, filled with regret."

The words struck like fire.

Kael felt something reignite inside his chest. He nodded firmly. "You’re right."

He stood up, resolve hardening in his eyes, but Silas stopped him. "There’s more you should know."

As Silas continued, Kael’s eyes widened in shock.

Silas added casually, "Ivy discovered something interesting. Every time you left strawberry milk on the counter, Arnold replaced it."

Kael’s blood boiled instantly. "That bastard."

He clenched his jaw, realization settling painfully. "So that’s why she never replied... that’s why her anger never faded."

His fists tightened as regret and fury mixed together.

Just as Kael was about to rush into action, Silas grabbed his arm and stopped him.

"What do you think you’re doing?"

Kael turned, his heartbeat loud in his ears. "I’m going to tell Martha everything. She needs to know how dedicated I am."

Silas stared at him for a long moment, then slowly shook his head. "You’re an idiot."

Kael frowned deeply. "Then what should I do?"

He continued to argue. "Weren’t you the one who had told me that you communicate. If you want something long-lasting, you don’t corner her with explanations."

Then Silas suddenly laughed, the sound dry and knowing.

"I did say that. But I also said... make yourself look pitiful. You don’t dump everything on her like a confession letter. Let her feel a little heartache. Trigger that softening instinct."

He shrugged.

"Girls are like that. As long as a man admits his mistakes sincerely and adds a bit of... harmless coquettishness, there’s still hope."

Kael narrowed his eyes, studying Silas’s expression. Slowly, an idea sparked. "I get it."

Silas’s smile faded instantly. A knot formed in his stomach.

’I don’t trust this man at all,’ he thought. ’Dense doesn’t even begin to describe him.’

Sometimes he genuinely wondered if his brother-in-law’s brain was flooded... with water, he wasn’t sure, but either way, logic rarely survived in there.

Just then, Ivy walked toward them. Seeing her brother, she didn’t even pause, passing by with deliberate indifference.

’Before Martha pointed it out, I didn’t think much of it,’ Ivy admitted to herself. ’But now? He deserves a bit of punishment.’
