Chapter 481: Jade’s Doubt
Chapter 481: Chapter 481: Jade’s Doubt
Straightening her posture, she raised her hand and chopped downward.
In the next second, five bricks shattered cleanly.
Ivy froze, staring at the broken pieces. ’Did I really do that?’
Unconvinced, she stacked more than ten bricks together and struck again. This time, the impact sent a jolt up her arm, but the entire stack still cracked apart in one blow.
Her breath quickened.
She increased the number to fifteen bricks. The pile rose higher than her waist. Ivy climbed onto a stool, steadying herself, then lifted her hand once more.
With focused determination, she brought her hand down again.
It took her some time, and this time she did it in parts because of the height, but even so, she managed to bring down all fifteen bricks.
Broken fragments scattered across the floor, the sharp scent of dust filling the air.
Ivy straightened slowly, rolling her shoulders as she took a deep breath.
’This needs proper grading,’ she thought calmly. ’With this level of strength, I can stand against those so-called superhumans who boast about brute force.’
Her thoughts shifted to speed.
Without hesitation, she walked over to the treadmill.
The faint hum of the machine filled the room as she stepped onto it and began running.
At first, the speed was set around seven. It felt easy, almost too easy.
’Let’s push it,’ she thought, gradually increasing the pace.
The numbers climbed steadily.
Ten. Fifteen. Twenty.
Even at a speed of twenty, Ivy didn’t feel the slightest hint of exhaustion.
Her breathing remained steady, her muscles responsive and light.
She kept running, minute after minute, then hour after hour.
Nearly two hours passed, yet she was still standing tall, her posture firm, her eyes sharp, as if she could immediately step into a fight and overwhelm anyone in front of her.
She finally slowed down and stepped off the treadmill, clenching her fist. "My body has changed... significantly."

Meanwhile, far away from her, General Frank arrived at the registration hall.
The room was bustling with low voices and the rustle of papers.
As he walked in, a faint unease settled in his chest.
’I hope Jade wasn’t lying,’ he thought.
After all, the leader who had previously planned an attack on him had already entered the base and never returned.
Though he trusted his son, he couldn’t deny that his son’s estimation had been wrong in Black Vulture’s matters.
There was also a matter concerning his own nephew... Sigh! He even wondered if his son’s power was the opposite of divination.
The moment the registration department saw General Frank’s name, the staff exchanged a brief but meaningful glance.
Without drawing attention, they initiated a thorough background and portrait-based investigation.
Once the process was complete, they handed him a passbook.
As they did so, their tone turned casual.
"There’s a secret department here," one of them remarked lightly.
"It allows people to exchange assets, gold, silver, and valuables for food, clothes, and medicine. A lot of people have already turned in their assets. In an apocalypse, food matters more than wealth."
,Frank, standing nearby, heard those words and instinctively glanced around. His eyes sharpened.
’Food over assets...’ The thought rooted itself deep in his mind, strengthening his resolve.
Just as he was about to leave, a guard stepped forward. "Hand over the box you’re holding."
Frank’s heart skipped a beat. He forced a smile, masking the unease rising in his chest, and held the bag tighter.
’I need this bag,’ he thought desperately. ’They can’t open it.’
The guard’s gaze remained firm. "We need to inspect it. It’s a procedure."
Frank quickly replied, "This bag doesn’t belong to me. It belongs to someone inside the base. He asked me to hold onto it because he couldn’t bring it in himself. He promised to pay me a thousand zombie crystals."
In truth, Frank was stalling. He knew that if the guards inspected the bag, they would find the serums hidden inside.
Once discovered, there would be no way to explain them away. He was the one who had brought the serums... there was no denying that.
Maintaining an innocent expression, he added, "If you want to check it, you’ll need the owner’s permission first."
The guard chuckled. "Everyone who enters the base signs a document. It clearly states that the base has full authority to inspect any belongings if there’s suspicion of potential harm."
The color drained from General Frank’s face.
He opened his mouth to argue, but another guard tilted his head and spoke calmly. "Why are you being so protective of a bag that isn’t even yours?"
Those words silenced him. After a brief pause, Frank forced a weak smile. "I’m just protecting basic rights. If you want to check it, go ahead."
He handed over the packet.
The guards inspected it and soon uncovered the hidden serums.
Frank closed his eyes, bracing himself for the consequences.
Instead, one of the guards spoke evenly. "These are illegal serums. They’ll be confiscated and destroyed."
Turning to him, the guard continued,
"Since you brought them in and didn’t know the contents inside, we won’t hold you fully accountable this time. However, they were found in your possession, so you’ll need to cooperate with an investigation. For now, you’re allowed to enter the base."
Hearing that, Frank felt his heart finally loosen, the tension draining from his chest.
At the same time, Jade’s brows furrowed, while his eyes flicked with confusion
’Why aren’t they more suspicious? Shouldn’t Silas or Ivy have already informed the guards to make things difficult, now the guards have got their hands on such a weakness, and yet they are letting us go?’
The guards were acting strangely nonchalant.
Jade remained silent, observing closely. ’If they truly found serums,’ he thought, ’there’s no way they don’t suspect him. This calm is deliberate.’
"Are you truly going to let us go inside?"
The guards chuckled lightly.
"You may proceed. Frank isn’t our primary suspect. His past life will be investigated separately by a special superhuman.... Felix."
The moment that name was spoken, both Jade and Frank stiffened.
