Chapter 628: Past And Present
Chapter 628: Chapter 628: Past And Present
Just as he was wondering what he had even done to end up like this, a dream dragged him into a cold abyss.
The dream felt disturbingly vivid, almost real.
In that dream, he watched himself.
He watched how he had tortured a girl, her hair a soft shade of pink.
At first, he had approached her gently, carefully weaving trust with warm words and false kindness.
He could almost feel the fragile warmth of her hand in his own, trembling yet hopeful.
But once that trust had fully settled, he crushed it mercilessly, piece by piece, until nothing remained but despair.
As he stood there, forced to witness his own cruelty, a sickening chill crawled down his spine.
’What... is this...?’
The girl’s face lifted slightly, her empty eyes staring into nothingness, and in that moment, realization struck him like a blade through the chest.
’No... that’s... Ivy ...’
The moment he recognized her, something inside his mind snapped open.
Memories surged like a violent flood, fragments of a life that did not belong to this one yet felt undeniably his.
Faces, screams, and broken promises echoed all at once, suffocating him under their weight.
And then, he understood.
’So that’s why... when she first saw me... she looked at me like that... like I was her enemy ...’
That gaze, filled with pure hatred, now made terrifying sense.
As despair wrapped tightly around his heart, he closed his eyes. When the execution came, he did not resist.
’I deserve this ...’
As life slipped away from him, one final thought burned brighter than the rest.
’If I am given another chance... I want to be reborn... at a time when Ivy was still under my control... I want to torture her again...’
But fate did not grant him mercy.
Darkness swallowed him whole, and there was no reincarnation waiting on the other side.
Arthur, who had once clung desperately to the belief that his parents would save him, met his end just the same. In his final moments, disbelief lingered in his fading gaze.
’So this is how it ends...?’
He had never imagined that his story would conclude in such a pitiful way.
Grace, however, was different.
She stood straighter, even as fear coiled tightly in her chest, refusing to let it show.
’How did I... fall this far...?’
She, who had once walked the path toward becoming a superior being, now stood on the brink of execution.
Just as the blade was about to fall, a guard abruptly stepped forward.
"Stop. She’s to be moved to a private prison room."
Grace’s breath hitched slightly.
’A private room...? Did... someone make a deal for me...?’
A flicker of hope ignited within her chest, fragile yet persistent.
But the moment the door creaked open, that hope shattered.
Footsteps echoed against the stone floor.
Felix, Alana’s husband, entered. The moment he saw her, a smile spread across his face.
Grace’s fingers curled slightly as unease crept up her spine.
"Why are you smiling like that...?" she demanded, her voice sharp yet laced with uneasiness. "That... disgusting smile... what do you want?"
Felix let out a low chuckle, the sound echoing eerily within the confined space.
"Recently, my power evolved," he said, his tone almost casual. "Not only can I see others’ past lives... I can show them as well."
A suffocating silence followed.
"You should see the reason as to why you are suffering," he added softly.
Grace frowned, confusion knitting her brows together.
"What are you talking about...?"
Before she could react, Felix suddenly grabbed her wrist. His grip was firm and unyielding, sending a jolt of panic through her body.
"Let go!"
But her resistance crumbled the moment the vision forced its way into her mind.
The world shifted. She saw herself.
In that vision, she stood beside a blind Ivy, the same fragile girl, yet surrounded by warmth and attention from their teammates.
Laughter echoed around them, but it grated against Grace’s ears like nails on glass.
Jealousy twisted her expression.
’Why her...? Why does she get everything...?’
Without hesitation, she teleported Ivy away.
The scene shifted again.
Hidden in the shadows, Grace watched as researchers captured Ivy. The girl struggled helplessly, her blind eyes wide with fear.
And Grace... smiled. A quiet, thrilled smile.
’Good... this is what you deserve ...’
As if nothing had happened, she returned.
She watched Ava and Mia desperately search for their missing friend, their voices breaking, their hope slowly crumbling.
She watched until their bodies collapsed, lifeless... and she smiled through it all.
But the vision did not end there.
In the end, she too met a gruesome fate, devoured by zombies, her screams swallowed by the chaos.
When the vision shattered, Grace staggered, her breath coming out in uneven gasps.
"This... this is impossible..." she whispered, her voice trembling. "How can this be...? Why... why isn’t the SiIvy base present in that world...? And Ivy... why was she blind even before...? "
Questions piled endlessly, yet answers remained out of reach.
Then, slowly, realization dawned upon her.
’Felix... showed Ivy this... didn’t he...?’
Her eyes widened in horror. ’That’s why... she looked at me like that ...’
Panic surged through her veins.
"No! Let me out!" she shouted, struggling against the guards. "I need to see Ivy! I have to explain everything!"
Her voice cracked, desperation seeping through every word.
"I admit it... I did those horrible things... but that was the past! I can change! I will change!"
But her pleas fell on deaf ears. The guards dragged her back.
And without hesitation... she was executed.
Even as life faded from her body, one final thought lingered stubbornly.
’If there is another chance... I will stay away from Ivy... no matter what...’
Unaware of the final thoughts of those four, Ivy remained focused.
Now that the population crisis had been dealt with, her only concern was the flood.
’I just hope... it recedes soon ...’
She was not alone in that hope.
Isla stood atop a high island peak, the wind whipping against her soaked clothes as she stared at the vast expanse of water below.
