Zombie Apocalypse: I Have Safe Zone Superpower

Chapter 642: Upgrade

Chapter 642: Chapter 642: Upgrade

Meanwhile, Silas seemed unusually pleased with everything.

With more responsibilities delegated, Ivy had more time, and he clung to her with an almost obsessive closeness.

’I just want to stay with her... nothing else matters,’ he thought, his gaze lingering on her longer than necessary.

Ivy, clearly aware of his intentions, shot him a sharp glare one day, her eyes narrowing.

"Don’t forget," she said coldly, "we still have those superior beings to deal with."

Silas sighed dramatically, though a faint grin tugged at his lips.

"You’re no fun," he muttered, before adding in a softer tone, "especially after you accidentally called me daddy the other day."

The moment those words left his mouth, Ivy’s face turned pale, her expression stiffening.

A silence followed before she spoke again.

"If that’s the case," she said slowly, "then I’ll call you that again tonight."

Silas’s eyes lit up instantly, his earlier laziness vanishing as excitement surged through him.

Before things could spiral further, Ivy quickly shifted focus, pulling out a map and placing it between them.

Silas leaned forward, pointing at various marked regions.

"My people have already covered half the land," he explained, his tone turning serious. "But there’s still no trace of those superior beings."

He paused, his brows knitting slightly. "I have a feeling they’re planning something bigger."

Ivy narrowed her eyes, nodding slowly. "I think so too," she replied. "If they’ve stayed silent for this long, something is definitely wrong."

Sensing her tension, Silas moved behind her, his hands gently settling on her shoulders as he began to massage them.

"Don’t overthink it," he murmured. "Even if they pull some kind of trump card, we still have our temporary storage advantage."

Ivy exhaled deeply, her shoulders relaxing slightly under his touch.

With each zombie crystal she consumed, her power surged forward, breaking through limits again and again.

And recently, she had felt another shift, this time tied directly to her picking ability.

’I wonder what kind of change it will bring this time...’ she thought, a flicker of anticipation lighting within her.

But as time passed, nothing dramatic happened.

Instead, a strange weakness crept over her body, subtle at first, then increasingly overwhelming.

Her limbs felt heavy, her head spinning as if the world itself had begun to tilt.

Lying on the bed, she heard Silas’s voice faintly. "I’ll bring you some food," he said.

She gave a weak nod, but as the minutes stretched on, her dizziness worsened.

Her vision blurred, darkness creeping in at the edges until her eyes finally closed.

When Silas returned, the sight before him froze him in place. Ivy lay motionless, her breathing uneven, her skin unnaturally warm.

"Ivy?" His voice sharpened instantly as he rushed to her side, pressing his hand against her forehead. "You’re burning up."

Without hesitation, he grabbed the medicine and carefully helped her take it.

But in her semi-conscious state, something unexpected happened.

As his fingers lingered near her lips, Ivy suddenly bit down on one of them, her grip firm yet instinctive.

Silas blinked in surprise, a faint blush creeping onto his face. "If you wanted to bite, you could’ve just said so," he muttered lightly.

The next second, however, a sharp, piercing pain shot through him.

His expression shifted as he realized what was happening.

Ivy wasn’t just biting... she was drawing blood from him, her body instinctively absorbing what it needed.

He could feel it, a strange draining sensation, yet he did not pull away.

Instead, he stayed still, watching her closely as her condition gradually improved.

’I see... she needs this right now,’ he thought.

Time passed slowly, nearly half an hour slipping by before Ivy finally released him.

Silas exhaled quietly, unsure of how much she had taken, but unconcerned as long as she was recovering.

Still, the sudden fever had put him on edge.

Moments later, Ivy’s eyes fluttered open, her gaze unfocused and hazy. Her voice came out weak, barely above a whisper.

"I don’t know what’s happening..." she murmured. "My head feels so heavy... and I’m so tired..."

She swallowed slowly, her throat dry.

"And this thirst..." she added, her voice trembling faintly. "It feels like I need to consume... a lot of energy..."

Silas’s eyes narrowed sharply, his voice low yet firm.

"Tell me honestly... is this your power doing this to you?"

For a brief moment, Ivy’s breath hitched.

Then she shook her head immediately, her brows knitting together in faint frustration.

"How could my own power harm me?" she replied, her voice strained yet resolute. "That doesn’t make any sense."

Silas did not look convinced.

After a short pause, he exhaled slowly before speaking again.

"Then we need answers," he said. "Let’s go inside the temporary storage and find out what’s causing this fever."

Ivy hesitated for only a second before nodding. A faint chill crawled along her spine as she whispered, almost to herself,

"This... this isn’t a normal fever... something feels wrong..."

The moment they stepped into the temporal storage space, both of them froze.

Supplies were falling from above.

Not in a slow or controlled manner, but like a relentless rainstorm, boxes, medicines, fabrics, tools, pouring down endlessly from the void.

"It’s... not stopping," Ivy whispered, her voice trembling slightly.

In that instant, Silas’s expression changed.

"Your power is running at full capacity," he said quickly, his tone turning sharp. "That’s why your body is weakening."

Ivy’s eyes narrowed, her heart sinking as she felt it too.

She closed her eyes tightly, focusing with all her strength. "’Stop... just stop...’" she pleaded silently, trying to suppress the flow.

But nothing changed.

The rain of supplies continued mercilessly.

When she opened her eyes again, there was a hint of helplessness within them, and seeing that, Silas’s chest tightened painfully.

He quickly scanned the surroundings, searching for anything unusual. His gaze moved rapidly until it locked onto something faint... almost invisible.

A timer.

It hovered just above Ivy’s forehead, so distant and translucent that it was nearly impossible to notice.

Silas squinted, focusing harder until the numbers became clear.

Twenty-four days.

His fist clenched instantly, his jaw tightening as anger and disbelief surged through him.
