Chapter 658: Reporting To Moona
Chapter 658: Chapter 658: Reporting To Moona
When they lifted her, her body offered no resistance. She swayed limply in their grip, still smiling, still lost.
When Valerie opened her eyes again, the world felt different.
She blinked slowly.
A single bulb hung from the ceiling above her, swaying slightly.
Her wrists were tied tightly to the arms of a chair.
For a moment, confusion clouded her mind. ’Am I... still high?’ she wondered, her thoughts sluggish and disoriented.
Before she could process further, the door creaked open.
A female officer walked in.
She stopped in front of Valerie and looked down at her.
"The tests have confirmed the presence of substances in your system," she stated calmly. "But we still need to know exactly what you’ve been using."
Valerie averted her gaze immediately, her lips parting slightly. "I... don’t know what you’re talking about," she muttered weakly.
The officer chuckled softly, though there was no warmth in the sound.
She extended her hand without looking away. "File."
Her assistant stepped forward quickly and placed a folder into her hand.
The officer opened it and began flipping through the pages, her eyes scanning every detail before she started speaking again.
"Valerie," she read out, her voice clear and precise. "Multiple instances of substance intake... escalating dosage patterns... behavioral instability... and visible physiological responses."
She closed the file with a soft snap.
"Everything is already documented," she continued, her gaze returning to Valerie. "All that’s left is your formal statement."
Valerie swallowed.
"You will be transferred to a rehabilitation unit within the prison system," the officer added. "After that, your case will be processed accordingly."
Valerie’s eyes widened slightly as panic flickered through her expression. She shook her head weakly.
"You can’t just imprison someone for using something they want," she protested, her voice shaky but desperate.
The officer let out a small laugh.
"That sounds like a very polished argument," she replied, tilting her head slightly. "I’ve heard it many times before."
She leaned forward just enough for her presence to feel suffocating.
"But here’s the reality," she continued coldly. "Before entering this base, every individual signed a consent agreement. It clearly states that the use of prohibited substances is strictly forbidden."
Her voice hardened.
"This is not about preference," she said. "This is about breaking the rules of this base."
She straightened and crossed her arms.
"If you are unhappy with those rules, you are free to leave," she added bluntly.
Valerie’s breathing grew uneven. "I pay taxes... you’re supposed to take care of me," she argued, clinging desperately to the words.
For a brief moment, the officer simply stared at her.
Then she laughed.
"That argument might have worked in the old world," she said, her eyes turning cold. "Back then, I was a cop. I heard people repeat that line endlessly."
She leaned closer, her voice dropping.
"But this isn’t the old world anymore."
Valerie froze.
"This base is not government-controlled," the officer continued. "It is privately owned. So be careful with what you say."
A heavy silence followed.
Valerie lowered her head slightly, her shoulders trembling faintly. ’I... I messed up,’ she thought, a sense of helplessness settling deep inside her.
The officer straightened again.
"This case will be officially closed once you tell us where you got the drugs," she stated firmly.
At those words, Valerie’s body stiffened.
Her lips pressed tightly together.
Robert’s warning echoed in her mind. ’Don’t say anything... no matter what.’
She remained silent.
The officer frowned slightly, her eyes narrowing as she observed Valerie closely.
’That look... I’ve seen it before,’ she thought.
A memory surfaced... another addict, another interrogation, the same hesitation... and the discovery of a large illegal network that had earned her a promotion.
A faint spark of anticipation lit in her eyes.
’This could be another opportunity,’ she realized.
The next two hours were brutal.
Valerie’s resolve crumbled piece by piece.
Finally, she broke.
"It... it was Robert," she gasped, her voice trembling as tears mixed with sweat on her face. "He gave it to me..."
The officer’s eyes sharpened immediately.
"Why?" she asked.
Valerie shook her head weakly. "It wasn’t for free... I had to do things," she admitted. "Planting... plants across the base... bringing animals inside..."
The officer frowned deeply. "Why those tasks?" she questioned. "They don’t seem harmful."
Valerie hesitated.
Then, seeing a sliver of hope, she quickly added, "I... I just liked doing it. It was my idea."
The officer stared at her in silence.
Two more hours passed.
And eventually, Valerie gave in completely.
"I don’t know why he asked me to do it," she confessed weakly. "But... it didn’t feel right. If it were harmless... he would’ve done it himself."
The officer’s expression hardened.
Without wasting time, she reported everything to her superior.
Her superior was Moona.
Someone who had direct connections to Ivy.
Moona did not take the matter lightly.
The moment she received the report, she initiated a full investigation.
Teams were dispatched to examine every plant Valerie had placed and every animal she had brought into the base.
What they discovered was... unsettling.
"These plants... are wrong," one of the analysts muttered, his voice uneasy.
They did not grow like normal vegetation.
Their texture was slightly rough, and their color carried a dull, lifeless tone that gave off an almost eerie presence.
A faint sense of unease spread among the investigators.
"This isn’t natural," Moona concluded, her brows furrowed.
Without hesitation, she gave the order.
"Remove everything."
The plants were uprooted immediately. The animals that had been brought in were gathered as well.
Everything was taken outside the base.
But just as they were deciding their next step... Something happened.
Without warning, an invisible force surged through the area.
The plants and animals were violently pushed away, as if struck by something unseen. They were thrown outward, scattering across the ground beyond the base perimeter.
Everyone froze.
"What... was that?" someone whispered.
Moona’s eyes narrowed sharply.
"Stay alert," she ordered, her voice low but firm.
Drawn by both curiosity and unease, they slowly moved toward the outer gates of the base.
