Chapter 756: Eric's Intervention
Chapter 756: Chapter 756: Eric’s Intervention
Those words only fuelled Gwen’s rage. She suddenly pointed toward Annie again.
“The only reason he’s with you… is because he couldn’t have me!”
She clenched both fists tightly.
“You’re nothing more than my shadow. Since he couldn’t have me… he settled for you instead.”
The moment those words left her mouth, Felix’s face darkened completely. For the first time since they met again, genuine anger appeared in his eyes. “Shut up.”
His voice was frighteningly cold. “I’ve tolerated enough.”
He took a step forward. “Please leave. Right now.”
Gwen stared at him blankly. She had never imagined Felix would actually raise his voice at her. “You…”
She bit her lip until it almost bled. “You jerk!”
Unable to endure the humiliation any longer, she turned around and ran outside. The moment she disappeared, the room finally became quiet again.
Felix slowly rubbed his forehead. “I…”
He let out a tired sigh. “I really have no idea why everything turned out like this.”
Meanwhile, outside the residence, Gwen wiped away her tears while walking back home.
At that moment, she hated Felix. However, she hated Annie even more.
‘If Annie had never existed… Everything would’ve been mine.’
Those thoughts continuously repeated inside her mind.
……
After returning home, Gwen headed straight toward her room.
Before she could enter, her father called out to her. “Gwen.”
His expression was unusually serious. “Where have you been?”
He frowned slightly. “You’ve already missed several training sessions.”
Hearing those words, Gwen impatiently waved her hand. “I’m not in the mood.”
Her father frowned. “Watch your manners.”
His voice became slightly sterner. “I’m your father. I deserve at least that much respect.”
Then he looked at her carefully. “Tell me. What happened?”
Those simple words completely shattered Gwen’s remaining patience.
She glared at him. “It’s all because of you!”
Her father froze. “What?”
“You kept telling me to focus on my goals. You kept warning me not to get distracted. You were the one who convinced me to keep rejecting Felix. If I hadn’t listened to you none of this would’ve happened.”
The more Gwen spoke, the angrier she became.
Completely blinded by her emotions, she conveniently forgot one important fact.
Her father had never forced her to reject Felix. He had only reminded her not to neglect her future.
The final decision had always been hers. However, in her current state, she needed someone to blame.
Unfortunately, that person became her father.
Before he even had a chance to explain himself, Gwen pointed directly at him. “It’s all your fault!”
Her father remained stunned. Then Gwen suddenly shouted,
“You’re jealous of me!”
Her father looked utterly confused. “What are you talking about?”
“If you aren’t jealous of me…” She laughed bitterly. “…then why aren’t you treating Annie the same way? That Annie looks so much like me, she must be your favourite illegetimate child, right?”
Those words completely confused her father. “Annie?”
For a brief moment, surprise flashed across his face.
Then something suddenly clicked inside his mind.
His eyes widened.
“Wait…”
He looked directly at Gwen. “Did you just say Annie?”
His breathing became noticeably heavier. “Is she really alive?”
The excitement in his voice was impossible to hide.
Seeing that expression… Gwen completely lost control. ‘How can this be? Why is everyone choosing Annie?’
She violently pushed her father away. “No!”
Her voice echoed throughout the house.
“Why do you want to acknowledge her? Do you love her now?”
She continued crying hysterically.
“What kind of magic has Annie used? Why is everyone abandoning me? First Felix… and now you!”
Her father immediately realized she was suffering an emotional breakdown.
Ignoring everything else, he hurried forward and embraced her tightly.
“Calm down.”
He gently patted her back. “Please calm down. You’re overthinking everything.”
His voice became softer. “It’s not what you think.”
He took a deep breath before finally revealing the truth. “Annie is your biological sister.”
Gwen’s entire body froze.
“My…” She slowly looked up. “…my sister?”
Her father nodded sadly. “There are many things you don’t know.”
His eyes gradually became moist.
“Your mother never recovered after losing your sister.”
He lowered his head.
“She blamed herself every single day. It was that grief that eventually destroyed her health.”
Gwen remained speechless.
Seeing her finally calm down, her father continued.
“Twenty years ago, we were extremely poor. I was only an ordinary worker. Your mother gave birth in a small hospital because we couldn’t afford anything better.”
His voice gradually became heavier.
“Human traffickers noticed the newborn babies. They attempted to kidnap one.”
He closed his eyes painfully.
“They originally tried to take you. But Annie cried loudly. They panicked. So they abandoned you and took Annie instead.”
His hands slowly trembled.
“We immediately reported everything. Eventually, the traffickers were caught. They admitted they had abandoned one baby and sold another.”
He lowered his gaze.
“They claimed Annie had already died. We spent years searching. But eventually we had no choice but to give up.”
A bitter smile appeared on his face.
“Who would’ve imagined that she survived all along?”
Silence filled the room. After several long moments, Gwen suddenly spoke.
“No.”
Her father blinked.
“We’re not acknowledging her.”
He stared at her in disbelief. “What do you mean?”
Hatred slowly filled Gwen’s eyes. “Annie already stole Felix from me.”
She clenched her fists so tightly that her fingernails dug into her palms. “I won’t let her steal my father too.”
She looked directly into his eyes.
“If you acknowledge her…”
Her voice became frighteningly calm. “…I’ll kill myself.”
Her father looked at her pale face. He could tell she wasn’t joking. His own fists slowly tightened.
After struggling internally for several moments, he finally lowered his head.
“…Alright.”
His voice sounded incredibly bitter.
“I won’t acknowledge her.”
Hearing that promise, Gwen finally let out a long sigh of relief.
However, deep inside, she felt as though she had somehow become the villain in someone else’s story.
One after another, everything precious to her seemed to be slipping away.
Perhaps even her talent and future.
In her increasingly paranoid mind, it felt as though Annie had stolen everything that originally belonged to her.
Those obsessive thoughts only continued growing stronger.
Eventually, Gwen became so fearful of losing her father that she refused to let him leave her side for long.
Watching his daughter’s increasingly unstable behavior, her father couldn’t help but worry.
He had already lost his wife once.
Now, he feared he might lose his daughter as well.
He had even tried contacting several doctors.
Every specialist he could think of had been invited to examine Gwen.
However, each time a doctor arrived, Gwen would immediately burst into tears.
She would cry uncontrollably, accuse everyone of forcing her, and even threaten to take her own life.
“If you keep doing this…” Her voice trembled violently as tears streamed down her face. “…I’ll kill myself.”
Those words frightened her father every single time. His face would instantly turn pale.
Without caring about anything else, he would hurriedly pull her into a tight embrace. “Don’t say something like that.”
His voice shook with fear. “Please… don’t scare me like this.”
As the days slowly passed, her father gradually became exhausted. Dark circles formed beneath his eyes.
His shoulders seemed to droop a little more every morning. Eventually, after another sleepless night, he quietly made a decision.
Without informing Gwen, he secretly went to visit Eric.
The moment they met, Eric noticed the deep exhaustion on Eddie’s face.
He gestured toward the chair opposite him. “Please, have a seat.”
After sitting down, Eddie remained silent for several moments. Finally, he sighed deeply. “Are you… Dr. Eric?”
Eric nodded politely. “Yes.”
A faint smile appeared on his face. “I’m Dr. Eric. I’ll do everything I can to help your daughter.”
Hearing those reassuring words, Eddie immediately shook his head.
“I’ve already visited countless psychiatrists.”
A bitter smile appeared on his exhausted face. “I don’t think another doctor can help.”
Eric remained calm. “Perhaps.”
He folded his hands together. “But Annie specifically asked me to take this case.”
Hearing Annie’s name, Eddie became slightly surprised. “What did you just say?”
Eric slowly nodded. “Annie asked me to help.”
Along the way, Eddie had already explained everything that had happened.
Because of that, Eric already had a general understanding of Gwen’s situation.
After remaining silent for a moment, he finally spoke. “To be honest, I don’t think your daughter is mentally ill.”
Her father looked at him in confusion. “What do you mean?”
Eric calmly continued.
“From everything you’ve told me, it seems your daughter is consumed by resentment. She needs someone to pull her out of that emotional state.”
Meanwhile, inside another room… Gwen had already overheard part of their conversation. The moment she heard Annie’s name, anger surged through her chest.
“I don’t need her help.”
She gritted her teeth. “Let her die. It would be better if she died.”
Her eyes instantly turned red. “She stole everything from me.”
