Chapter 764: Bonus
Chapter 764: Chapter 764: Bonus
Her expression became unusually serious. “We successfully drove those superior beings away…”
She lowered her voice. “But that doesn’t mean we’re safe.”
Felix’s smile vanished as well.
Alana continued,
“They’ll eventually realize that the body they’re currently occupying doesn’t actually belong to Ivy. And sooner or later, they’ll also discover that the soul inside that body belongs to someone else entirely.”
Felix’s expression darkened. After several seconds of silence, he quietly nodded.
“Then…”
He looked toward the window where the evening sky was slowly darkening.
“We’ll simply wait for that moment to arrive. Other than waiting, there isn’t anything we can do.”
Felix let out a quiet sigh as he looked toward the dark horizon beyond the reinforced glass windows.
“It’s not as if we can find them while they’re hiding in space.”
Hearing those words, Alana slowly nodded. She remained silent for a few moments before speaking again.
“But what if they never actually left?”
Her brows knitted together. “Even though they claimed they were leaving, I have a feeling those superior beings are still lurking somewhere nearby.”
The atmosphere instantly grew heavy. Felix’s expression darkened. “If that’s really the case…”
A dangerous glint flashed across his eyes. “…then they’ll pay a very heavy price.”
His voice became colder. “Especially Silas.”
A faint smile appeared on his face. “He’ll make sure they regret ever coming here.”
Alana nodded in agreement. Soon afterward, the sound of tiny footsteps echoed through the hallway.
Both of their children happily ran inside the room. The tense atmosphere immediately softened.
Felix and Alana exchanged smiles before shifting all of their attention toward the children.
Meanwhile, Danielle had completely taken charge of Ron’s recovery.
She carefully organized every aspect of his treatment.
From medicine schedules to meal timings and recovery exercises, everything was planned with meticulous precision.
Finally, after two full days, Ron slowly regained consciousness. His eyelids fluttered open.
The first thing he asked after waking up was, “How is Ivy now?”
The moment those words left his mouth, both Danielle and Asher froze. Asher slowly narrowed his eyes.
Before this, he had merely suspected that Ron knew where Ivy was hiding. Now, he was almost certain.
‘So my little brother really has been hiding Ivy all this time.’
A faint smile appeared on Asher’s face. He casually walked closer. “So, Ivy has been kidnapped.”
He carefully observed every tiny change in Ron’s expression. “Do you happen to know where she might be?”
The instant Ron heard those words, he blinked. Then realization dawned on him.
‘I’ve exposed myself.’
His heart skipped a beat. However, he reacted almost immediately. Putting on the most innocent expression he could manage, he shook his head.
“I don’t know, sir.”
Asher continued staring at him. Just as he was about to ask another question, Danielle stepped between them.
She gently pushed Asher backward. “Don’t crowd around the patient.”
She looked at him disapprovingly. “He just woke up.”
Then she turned back toward Ron. Her expression immediately became gentle. “Are you feeling alright now?”
Ron looked at her. Then he nodded obediently like a child receiving praise. “I am.”
A moment later, curiosity appeared in his eyes. It was obvious he wanted to know who she was. Seeing that, Danielle smiled warmly. “Hello.”
She lightly pointed toward herself. “I’m Danielle. I’m Commander Asher’s assistant, and I work in the logistics department.”
She continued smiling. “I was assigned to take care of you, so I’ll probably be visiting you quite often.”
The moment Ron heard that, his ears immediately turned red. His cheeks gradually became flushed. “S-Sister Danielle…”
He awkwardly scratched his head. “Thank you. But… I think I can manage on my own.”
Although he said that, his eyes continuously drifted toward Danielle. It was obvious he was attracted to her.
Danielle wasn’t the type of woman whose beauty would stun an entire room. However, her facial features were delicate and pleasant.
Over the past few weeks, the tan on her skin had faded considerably, making her appear even more graceful.
Combined with her warm personality, she naturally drew people’s attention. Ron found himself unable to look away.
Meanwhile, Danielle smiled gently. “Well…”
She folded her hands behind her back. “I can’t just leave you alone. I’ll continue staying by your side until you’ve completely recovered.”
Just then, Asher, who had remained silent until now, suddenly interrupted. “There’s no need.”
Everyone looked toward him. “I’ll assign someone else.”
His voice remained calm. “You’ve already done more than enough.”
He looked directly at Danielle. “I guarantee you’ll receive a bonus.”
The moment Danielle heard the word “bonus,” her eyes widened. The gentle smile on her face disappeared almost instantly.
Instead, her eyes sparkled brightly. “How much?”
Asher blinked. For a brief moment, he couldn’t connect the money-loving Danielle standing before him with the gentle, caring woman he had seen over the past few days.
He awkwardly coughed. “At least…”
He raised two fingers. “…this much.”
Danielle frowned. “Only two hundred zombie crystals?”
Before Asher could answer, a little girl suddenly shouted from beside the bed. “Absolutely not!”
She puffed out her cheeks. “It should be two thousand zombie crystals!”
Ron immediately frowned. He looked at Asher seriously.
“It should be twenty thousand zombie crystals.”
Asher pinched the bridge of his nose helplessly. “You all are seriously overestimating me.”
After a brief pause, he sighed dramatically. “Fine. The maximum I can approve is two hundred thousand zombie crystals.”
The moment Danielle heard those words, countless imaginary stars appeared in her eyes. She clasped both hands together excitedly.
“If that’s the case…”
A brilliant smile bloomed across her face. “…I’m suddenly feeling extremely motivated to work even harder.”
Even though Asher wanted to take back his words, he couldn’t As he watched Danielle smiling so brightly, for just a fleeting moment, he felt as though his heart had nearly leaped out of his chest.
Unfortunately, that beautiful moment was completely ruined. Ron’s little sister suddenly ran toward Danielle and tightly hugged her waist.
“Pretty Sister!”
She beamed brightly. “You smile so beautifully! I love you so much!”
Then she innocently added, “If Brother Ron can’t marry you, then I wish I could!”
Ron nearly choked. His face instantly turned crimson. “Fey!”
He covered his burning face. “Stop saying embarrassing things!”
However, Fey completely ignored him. She hugged Danielle even tighter. “Sister, please stay with us forever.”
Her eyes sparkled innocently. “You’re so pretty.”
Then she looked toward Ron. “You and my brother are a perfect match.”
Ron became even redder. He looked as though steam might start coming out of his head.
Watching everything unfold, Asher suddenly felt an unfamiliar irritation rising inside him. Keeping his expression calm, he gently picked Fey up.
He smiled kindly. “Little girl…”
His voice was unusually gentle. “You shouldn’t jump to conclusions so quickly.”
He glanced toward Danielle. “What if this pretty sister only looks beautiful…”
He paused deliberately. “…but secretly has the heart of a wicked witch?”
Fey immediately rolled her eyes. “Right now…”
She crossed her tiny arms. “…I think you’re acting more like Snow White’s evil stepmother.”
She looked at him with complete seriousness. “You sound so bitter.”
Then she tilted her head. “Are you even a man? How can you be jealous of another woman?”
The room instantly became silent. Asher was completely speechless. Meanwhile, Danielle couldn’t hold it in anymore.
She burst into laughter. Her shoulders trembled uncontrollably. She honestly felt that if there were anyone capable of putting Asher in his place, it was definitely little Fey.
Fey then struggled inside Asher’s arms. “I want to get down.”
Asher sighed helplessly before placing her back on the floor. The little girl immediately walked toward a nearby drawer.
She carefully opened it and took out a beautifully decorated wooden box.
Danielle had already noticed over the past few days that Fey treasured that box deeply and never let it leave her side.
Holding it carefully with both hands, Fey slowly walked toward Danielle. Her tiny legs trembled slightly from nervousness.
Stopping in front of Danielle, she raised the box. “Sister…”
Her voice was soft. “This is the heirloom my mother left behind.”
She smiled brightly. “I want to give it to you.”
Danielle’s expression immediately changed. She quickly shook her head. “No.”
She gently pushed the box back. “This is far too precious. I can’t accept something so important.”
Not wanting the little girl to insist any further, Danielle quickly stood up. “You’ve all had a long day.”
She smiled warmly. “Dinner has already been prepared. I’ll leave first so you can all eat peacefully.”
With those words, she hurriedly left the room. Watching her retreating figure, Asher quietly snorted. “What a coward.”
He muttered the words so softly that only he could hear them. Meanwhile, Fey immediately rolled her eyes.
“You’re a coward too, Mister Asher.”
Asher’s lips twitched. Choosing to ignore her, he turned toward Ron instead. “Tell me honestly.”
He pointed at the little girl. “Are you absolutely certain she’s only one and a half years old?”
He looked genuinely suspicious.
“How is she smarter than most five-year-old children?”
