His lips curved into a proud yet bittersweet smile.

Hearing those words, Ivy completely froze.
Her pupils widened. She had never thought that deeply before.
Her fingers slowly curled into tight fists as tears began streaming uncontrollably down her cheeks.

Upon hearing those words, Ivy slowly tightened her embrace around him. “I’m sorry…”

Those simple words were like warm sunlight melting away years of frozen fear.
Silas finally let out a long sigh of relief. It felt as though an invisible knot that had been strangling his heart since that day had finally begun to loosen.
He gently pulled her back and smiled softly. “Since you’ve apologized… let’s forget about this.”
Then his expression became serious once more. “But please…”
Before he could finish, Ivy nodded earnestly. “I know.”
She smiled through her tears. “I’ll never put my life at risk again.”
A relieved grin finally appeared on Silas’s face. However, the very next second, Ivy suddenly staggered. “Wait…”
She blinked several times. “Why am I suddenly feeling so dizzy?”
The smile instantly disappeared from Silas’s face.
His expression turned anxious as he immediately held her shoulders, carefully checking whether she had injured herself somewhere.
At the same time, guilt surged through him. ‘Damn it… was I too rough yesterday? I really am a beast.’
Before he could examine her further, Ivy’s body suddenly went limp.
“Ivy!”
She completely lost consciousness. Panic flashed across Silas’s face.
Without wasting another second, he scooped her into his arms and hurriedly carried her to the bed, laying her down with utmost care as though she were made of fragile glass.
He immediately contacted the doctor. Within minutes, the doctor rushed into the underground base.
After carefully checking Ivy’s pulse and conducting several examinations, he injected medicine into her arm before turning toward Silas with a smile.
“Congratulations. Your wife is most likely pregnant. However, you should be gentle with her and refrain from becoming intimate with her during the next few months.”
Silas’s eyes widened in complete disbelief. At that exact moment, Ivy’s eyelashes fluttered open.
Still slightly dazed, the very first word she heard was…
“Pregnant.”
Her eyes widened just as much as Silas’s. However, unlike his expression of stunned joy, her face instantly turned deathly pale.
Remorse flooded every corner of her heart. If she had truly sacrificed her body and soul that day, it wouldn’t have been only her life she had thrown away.
She would’ve taken another innocent life with her. Not just one life, but two.
The horrifying realization shattered her completely. Large tears rolled down her cheeks as heartbreaking sobs escaped her lips.
She cried so hard that her shoulders shook violently. The doctor was completely stunned.
He instinctively stepped forward, intending to continue examining her.
However, before he could even move closer, Silas quickly sat beside the bed and pulled Ivy into his embrace. “It’s alright, baby.”
He gently stroked her trembling back. “Don’t cry. It’s not your fault. You didn’t know.”
Ivy desperately shook her head. Her entire body trembled uncontrollably. “I almost killed our child, Silas…”
She buried her face into his chest, crying so hard that she could barely breathe. “I was almost dead.”
Her voice broke into painful sobs. “I’m such a horrible, such a vicious mother.”
Hearing those heartbreaking words, Silas immediately tightened his embrace. He repeatedly shook his head.
“No. No, Ivy. Don’t say that. You aren’t.”
He lifted her chin so she would look into his eyes.
“I won’t let anything happen to you. And I won’t let anything happen to our child either.”
He gave her an encouraging smile. “Look. Our baby is completely fine, isn’t that right?”
Understanding the warning hidden within Silas’s gaze, the doctor hurriedly nodded.
“Yes… yes. The baby is perfectly healthy.”
He smiled reassuringly. “It’s only a little weak, so you’ll need plenty of rest and proper nutrition.”
However, the moment Ivy heard the words a little weak, she cried even harder. Silas slowly turned his head and shot the doctor a cold glare.
The poor doctor could only sigh helplessly.
‘What else was I supposed to say? I can’t exactly lie about the child’s condition.’
It took Silas nearly two full hours before Ivy finally stopped crying. Even then, her eyes remained swollen and red.
After gradually calming down, Ivy stayed unusually close to him.
Every few seconds, she would secretly glance at his face, almost as though she feared that if she looked away, he would disappear.
She even unconsciously clutched the corner of his sleeve whenever he shifted slightly.
It was obvious she didn’t want to leave his side for even a single moment. Silas secretly enjoyed this side of Ivy far more than he cared to admit.
It felt as though fate itself had tightly stitched their souls together. At that moment, he silently wished time would stop forever.
If he could spend eternity frozen in this peaceful moment with Ivy beside him, he would gladly accept it without hesitation.
After sitting quietly for a while, Ivy finally voiced the question that had been lingering in her mind for days. “I still don’t understand something.”
She looked at him curiously. “Where have we been staying for the past week?”
She had wanted to ask this countless times before, but every single time she held herself back.
She had been genuinely afraid that Silas would become irritated or lose his temper because of everything that had happened.
But now, he was in such a good mood. Surely, he would answer. Silas calmly intertwined his fingers with hers before replying.
“We’re inside an underground base.”
He looked around the sturdy steel walls surrounding them. “I built it a little distance away from your base.”
His expression softened. “I kept it hidden from everyone. It was my contingency plan. In case everything completely fell apart one day…”
He gently squeezed her hand.
“…I wanted a safe place where we could bring both of our parents and live together in peace.”
Hearing those words, Ivy nodded gently.
“So… did you tell my parents that I’ve returned?” she asked, a trace of worry surfacing in her eyes. “They must be worried sick by now, right?”
Silas calmly shook his head. “No.”
He deliberately maintained a straight face before adding, “I didn’t tell them.”
Ivy blinked. “Why?”
A faint smirk tugged at the corner of his lips. “Because I wanted you to get scolded by them.”
For a moment, Ivy simply stared at him. Then she immediately pointed an accusing finger at his chest. “Silas!”
Her beautiful eyes widened in disbelief. “You’ve become vicious!”
She narrowed her eyes suspiciously. “You’re actually scheming against me now!”
Silas silently looked at her. ‘If I hadn’t… would I be able to make you realise your mistake? Your family member would have suggested to you to divorce me the moment I started to give you cold shoulders!’
The thought flashed across his mind before disappearing just as quickly. His expression softened into an innocent smile. “Yes, yes.”
He raised both hands in surrender. “I’m the one who’s wrong.”
Seeing him admit defeat so quickly, Ivy’s anger disappeared almost instantly. She folded her arms proudly before nodding in satisfaction.
“Since you already know your mistake, I’ll generously forgive you this time.”
Then she poked his shoulder.
“Now hurry up and inform my parents. I’m going to visit them. And while you’re at it, think of a convincing excuse.”
A mischievous smile slowly spread across her face.
“Otherwise, I’ll have no choice but to tell everyone how you imprisoned me here simply because you wanted to watch me get scolded.”
