Chapter 786: Upgrade In Power
Chapter 786: Chapter 786: Upgrade In Power
“…I won’t even let you leave your room.”
Victor wasn’t any better. Looking at Ivy with a calm yet stern expression, he folded his arms across his chest and said, “Ivy, this time, you had better have a very good explanation. Otherwise, I will have no choice but to agree with Helena.”
Hearing those words, Ivy let out a long sigh. She was truly in deep trouble this time. ‘I’m finished…’
Her gaze immediately shifted toward the culprit who had landed her in this mess.
Silas stood nearby, wearing an innocent expression as though he had absolutely nothing to do with the situation. He even snorted softly and looked away, making him appear completely blameless.
Seeing his shameless behavior, Ivy could only grind her teeth inwardly. ‘Just you wait… I’ll settle this score later.’
Turning back toward her family, she put on the most pitiful expression she could manage before rubbing her stomach dramatically.
“You all have been shouting at me for so long. Shouldn’t you at least give me something to eat first? I’m starving.”
The moment Helena heard those words, every ounce of anger in her heart melted away. Worry immediately replaced her frustration.
“My poor child…”
Before Helena could continue fussing over Ivy, Ember quickly stepped forward. “Mom, why don’t you go prepare something for her? I’ll handle everything here.”
Helena nodded without hesitation. “Alright.”
All of them returned to the building.
She hurried toward the kitchen, the aroma of herbs and simmering broth soon filling the house. After Helena left, Ember crossed her arms before looking directly at Ivy.
“So… is there anything you would like to say?”
Ivy forced an awkward smile. “I… went on a little vacation. It was actually a very nice place. I was planning to…”
Before she could finish speaking, Ember smiled sweetly. “It just so happens that I found the letter you left behind for the government.”
She tilted her head. “Would you like me to read it out loud for everyone?”
The color immediately drained from Ivy’s face. Her lips twitched. “How… how much do you know?”
Ember chuckled. “How much do you want us to know?”
Ivy rubbed her forehead helplessly before sighing. “How about this? I’ll explain everything later.”
Her gloomy expression suddenly disappeared, replaced by an excited grin. “But before that, I have something really cool to show you.”
Without waiting for anyone’s response, she grabbed Ember, Feli,x and Kael before leading everyone toward the residential building.
The moment they entered her room, Ivy casually waved her hand. Whoosh!
A bar of butter suddenly appeared out of thin air before landing neatly on the table with a soft thud. Ember frowned slightly.
“What does this prove? You still have to take it out from your storage space, don’t you?”
Ivy shook her head excitedly. “No. My supply-picking ability has evolved. I don’t have to bend down and pick anything up anymore. Now, with just a single thought, I can directly transfer supplies into my Temporal Storage. I don’t even need physical contact anymore. I simply think about it, and it’s already stored.”
Ember’s eyes widened in disbelief. A second later, they sparkled brightly.
“Wow, that’s incredible!”
Ivy couldn’t help but puff out her chest proudly. “Not only that… I’ve also become much better at creation.”
She snapped her fingers. Snap! The surrounding air rippled faintly. The next moment, another Ivy appeared before everyone.
She looked almost identical. Even the tiny expressions and mannerisms were nearly perfect.
For a brief moment, everyone instinctively glanced back and forth, unable to distinguish who the real Ivy was.
Ember stared in complete astonishment. “Even I can’t immediately tell the difference.”
Curious, Felix slowly walked toward the clone. He carefully examined every detail before gently reaching out and touching her silky hair.
His fingers lingered there for a moment before he frowned slightly. Pulling his hand back, he nodded thoughtfully.
“It really does look real. It’s at least ninety percent identical. However… if someone has spent enough time around you, they’ll eventually notice that this is only a clone. The expressions are slightly stiffer, and there’s something missing that can’t be copied.”
Ivy chuckled. “Even so, this is already a huge improvement for me.”
Felix nodded in agreement. “Indeed. It truly is.”
At that moment, Helena returned carrying a steaming bowl of soup. The instant Ivy smelt it, her stomach growled loudly.
Her eyes lit up. “Thank you, Mom!”
Helena smiled gently before placing the bowl in front of her. Victor followed behind Helena, his expression much softer than before.
“Ivy… We won’t force you to tell us anything if it makes you uncomfortable.”
He paused before continuing quietly.
“But if possible, don’t disappear for such a long time again. At the very least, tell us where you’re going. You have no idea what kinds of terrifying thoughts ran through our minds while you were gone.”
Beside him, Helena silently nodded. Her eyes slowly became moist as painful memories resurfaced.
Seeing their expressions, Ivy genuinely felt guilt twisting inside her chest. Her fingers tightened around the bowl.
‘If they ever found out that I nearly sacrificed my own life… they would never forgive me. No… they would only blame themselves. How heartbroken would Mom and Dad become if they knew the truth?’
The thought alone made her chest ache. Ember quietly observed Ivy’s complicated expression before speaking once more. “So… Is there anything else you’d like to add?”
Ivy lowered her head. After several long seconds, she finally whispered, “I’m sorry… I really did go there intending to sacrifice myself.”
Silence instantly filled the room. The cheerful atmosphere vanished as though someone had extinguished every light inside the house.
Ember froze completely. Her pupils trembled. Felix clenched his fists so tightly that his nails dug into his palms.
“What the fuck… I already had an inkling… but hearing that directly… I’m honestly speechless.”
…………………………………………..
Right outside Daniellele’s door, dozens of fresh roses and neatly wrapped boxes of expensive chocolates were scattered across the entrance.
Their sweet fragrance lingered in the morning air, but instead of feeling touched, Danielle only frowned in irritation.
‘Don’t tell me this is Mason’s doing again… Or maybe his family’s? Are they seriously trying to emotionally blackmail me once more?’
However, the moment Jackson walked into view with an arrogant smile on his face, she immediately understood everything.
She folded her arms before glaring coldly at him.
“It would be better for you if you left right now. I’ve met plenty of idiots before… but I’ve never seen anyone as stupid as you. You know our history. You should be terrified that I’ll expose everything. I already got Mason kicked out of the military a month ago. What makes you think I can’t do the same to you?”
Jackson merely chuckled. “Oh my… It seems little Danielle has finally learned how to fight back.”
He slowly walked a little closer before placing a dramatic hand over his chest.
“But tell me something. Have you ever stopped to think about how heartbroken I am? In order to make me jealous, you decided to date my brother. When my brother wasn’t enough for you anymore, you dumped him. And now you have set your sights on General Asher?”
His smile became increasingly mocking. “What? Don’t tell me you’ve developed feelings for Asher too. Let me tell you something about Asher…”
Danielle cut him off immediately. “I’m not interested in taking romantic advice from someone like you. You’re a complete failure.”
Jackson stopped speaking. For the first time, he carefully observed the woman standing before him. She had changed.
Her skin had become fairer, and her posture was straighter. Confidence radiated naturally from her every movement.
Even her sharp eyes carried an intimidating strength they never possessed before. For just a fleeting second, even he found himself attracted to her.
He quickly crushed that thought.
‘She’s attractive… but that’s all. Right now, she’s useful to me for something much more important.’
His smile returned. “Danielle. How about we go inside and have a proper conversation?”
Danielle laughed softly before shaking her head. “No. You can stay right there. I’ll be the one going inside. And if you don’t leave before I count to three… I’ll call the cops.”
Without giving him another glance, she turned around and walked into her house.
The door closed firmly behind her. Jackson remained standing outside.
Despite all his arrogance, he didn’t dare step inside after her. Deep down, he was genuinely afraid that she would report him to the police.
Danielle quietly closed the door behind her before leaning against it and shutting her eyes.
A long, exhausted sigh escaped her lips. Honestly, everything was becoming far too taxing.
Her head throbbed faintly, and she could still hear Jackson’s irritating voice echoing inside her mind.
‘I swear that man exists solely to shorten my lifespan…’
After calming herself down, she slowly walked into the kitchen and prepared a simple lunch.
Soon, the comforting aroma of stir-fried vegetables and freshly cooked rice filled the apartment, gradually replacing the lingering tension in the air.
