Danielle chuckled, while Asher, on the other hand, blushed slightly.
“My wife definitely loves me a lot. Otherwise, how could she say something like that?”
Dante, who had been cooking nearby, shook his head at his son’s shameless confidence and quietly walked farther into the kitchen.
Asher’s words, however, reminded Dante of how much his own relationship with Alice had changed over the months.
The transformation in their marriage had begun from the moment he noticed Helena and Victoria and observed the way they interacted with each other.
Their relationship had taught him something he had never considered before.
He had once been cold as ice, while Alice had seemed even less interested in dealing with other people.
For years, they had simply lived together in what Dante believed was a loveless marriage.
At least, that was what he used to believe.
It was only later that Dante realized how deeply he had fallen in love with Alice.
The realization had come unexpectedly.
One day, Dante had visited Alice’s research facility because he wanted to discuss a few issues related to an upcoming business trip.
However, when he arrived, he found Alice deeply immersed in a conversation with another colleague.
The man said something that made Alice laugh.
It was the first time Dante had ever seen her genuinely laugh like that.
For the first time, something inside him tightened.
He became worried.
For years, he had thought of Alice as almost robotic, someone who rarely displayed emotions. Yet now he was seeing a completely different side of her.
‘So she is not emotionless. She simply never showed those emotions to me because she believed I would not understand.’
That realization stayed with him. Later that day, Dante confronted Alice about their relationship.
Alice had remained surprisingly calm as she looked at him.
“I know that you see this marriage as nothing more than a transaction, so I do not expect anything more from you anymore.”
Dante had been stunned. Her words immediately reminded him of something.
When he had first married Alice because of his parents’ expectations, he had spoken almost the exact same words to her.
‘Do not have any expectations from me. I only consider this marriage a shackle and a transaction. I do not have any love for you. Let us simply respect each other. Do not cheat on each other, have children, and live a peaceful life.’
At the time, Alice had probably been devastated.
Her expression had remained calm, but Dante could still remember how her eyes had changed.
The cheerful warmth he had seen in her when they first married seemed to disappear from that day onwards.
Dante finally understood what he had done to her.
That was why he eventually told Alice that he wanted to give their marriage another chance.
“I want us to try again. I want you to actually like me.”
Because by then, he had already realised that he genuinely liked her.
Alice had merely chuckled when she heard him.
“Well, I like a domesticated husband. I like a husband who listens to me, and I also like a husband who actually interacts with me.”
From that moment onward, Dante began putting considerably more effort into their relationship.
He started communicating with Alice more often. He began bickering with her over the smallest things, and instead of avoiding arguments, he gradually learned to enjoy them.
He even started preparing dinner and lunch because Alice rarely bothered to cook.
From the moment he truly got to know her, Dante had been practically stunned by her.
She was beautiful in his eyes, but her intelligence made her even more attractive.
Even though she had nearly reached middle age by then, Dante still believed there was no woman more beautiful than Alice.
Her temperament was what truly captivated him.
She could act unexpectedly cute while simultaneously calculating everything in her head. Her peculiar way of interacting with him often made him laugh.
Sometimes, she would deliberately ask him an incredibly difficult question and watch him struggle before calmly giving him the answer.
It was a strange kind of joy, but Dante loved every moment of it.
They often watched science-fiction shows together, occasionally spending hours discussing the technology and theories presented in them. At other times, they would have long conversations about politics and society.
They even argued from time to time.
Unlike before, they no longer tried to hide those arguments from each other.
Instead, Dante eventually realized that those disagreements were proof that their marriage was real.
They were not two strangers simply sharing a house.
They were a husband and wife who could argue, laugh, tease each other, and still sit beside one another afterward.
That realization had completely changed Dante’s understanding of marriage.
That was also why he had learned to cook.
Today’s meal was his responsibility because he wanted Alice to have enough time to properly interact with her future daughter-in-law without worrying about preparing food.
Asher quickly followed him into the kitchen.
“Father, if you steal all the thunder, how am I supposed to impress my own wife? Leave and give me a little room.”
Dante glanced at his son before nodding.
“Now you understand.”
With that, both father and son began preparing the dishes together.
Meanwhile, Nanami was sitting across from Silas, who calmly looked at him.
“So, what has brought you here?”
Silas leaned back slightly before replying. “Jade will come with us.”
Nanami raised an eyebrow.
“Such a sudden change of heart. If I did not know better, I would have thought that you had finally fallen for your wife’s words.”
Silas gave him a calm reply. “Well, what can I do? I genuinely cannot live without her.”
Nanami shook his head. “All right, then. We will do as you have decided.”
Silas frowned. This was completely outside his expectations.
He had been thinking that Nanami would oppose him and might even go as far as continuing to entice him with whatever hidden motive he had. Instead, Nanami had suddenly changed his approach.
‘What exactly is he planning now?’
Nanami looked at Silas and continued,
“Then we will depart within the next two days. If we do not leave by then, the asteroids in this galaxy will move along a particular path that will block our route. So, if you intend to leave, you need to plan everything within the next two days.”
Silas clenched his fist. “That is extremely short notice.”
Nanami shrugged. “I am only telling you the truth.”
Silas nodded and stood up to leave. However, Nanami suddenly stopped him.
“See, brother, whatever I might have said before, I know that I sounded as though I was trying to sow discord between you and Ivy. But the reality is that I do not want to harm either of you. I simply want both of you to live a good life.”
As Nanami finished speaking, a voice suddenly echoed inside Silas’s ear.
‘He is telling the truth.’
Silas frowned and looked around in confusion. For a moment, he was genuinely stunned.
‘Someone is whispering directly into my ear. But whose voice is that, and how did it appear so suddenly?’
He looked toward Nanami, but Nanami seemed completely unaware of what had happened. “What happened?”
Silas shook his head. “Nothing. I just have a little bit of a headache.”
With that, he turned around to leave. Nanami’s voice suddenly came from behind him. “Think everything through carefully before making any decision.”
Silas nodded without turning around and left. As he walked away, he clenched his fist. ‘Something is definitely wrong.’
Not long afterward, he arrived at Asher’s apartment. When he rang the doorbell, everyone was already gathered around the dining table.
Asher quickly opened the door, and when he saw Silas standing outside, he smiled. “Big brother, you arrived at exactly the right moment.”
Silas smiled and stepped inside. For the time being, he decided to put his conversation with Nanami aside.
The dinner was surprisingly pleasant. Warm food filled the room with an inviting aroma, and the relaxed conversations made the atmosphere feel unusually comfortable.
Even after dinner was over, there was a strange reluctance among everyone to leave.
Danielle had spent most of her life surrounded by people who were greedy or had ulterior motives. She had never truly understood how difficult it could be to leave the company of sincere people until now.
Her mother-in-law was willing to give her a special skin cream simply because she had noticed that Danielle’s skin had become tanned.
Her sister-in-law had solved her lodging problems and had even gifted her an apartment.
Danielle herself was stunned by Ivy’s generosity and eventually asked her why she was doing so much for her.
