Chapter 809: Alice's Testing

Chapter 809: Chapter 809: Alice’s Testing

Alice snorted in response. “He is not my good son. He is your good son.”

Asher stared at the two of them as they continued arguing as though he were not even present.

‘They completely forgot that I am standing right here.’

With no desire to get caught in the middle of their argument, Asher quietly left.

However, the moment he returned to his own place, he quickly shared the good news with Danielle.

Instead of looking happy, Danielle immediately became nervous.

“Asher, I do not know how I am supposed to behave in front of your parents, especially since they already know about my past. I do not even know how I will be able to face them now.”

Asher gently comforted her. “Do not worry. I will be with you. No one will say anything inappropriate to you.”

He smiled reassuringly.

“Danielle, trust me. My parents are genuinely good people, and they do not believe rumors without investigating the truth themselves.”

Danielle took a deep breath and nodded. “All right.”

Over the next few days, Danielle became particularly busy collecting various kinds of gifts for Asher’s family.

She carefully selected each present, worrying about whether something might be considered inappropriate or too simple.

She even went through a little etiquette training and watched several videos before finally feeling prepared to meet her future in-laws.

When she eventually arrived at their doorstep, she raised her hand to press the doorbell, but hesitated halfway.

Her fingers hovered over the button as nervousness slowly crept into her chest.

‘Should I really go inside? What if I accidentally do something embarrassing?’

Just as she was thinking about whether she should turn around and leave, another hand reached out and pressed the doorbell for her.

Danielle froze. She slowly turned around and became even more stunned when she saw Ivy standing behind her.

Ivy’s beautiful pink hair fell neatly around her shoulders, and her appearance was so striking that Danielle momentarily forgot about her nervousness.

For a moment, Danielle simply stared at her. Then her eyes subconsciously lowered toward Ivy’s stomach. It looked slightly rounded.

Danielle’s lips parted in surprise. “You’re pregnant?”

Ivy chuckled warmly. “Hi to you too, my sister-in-law.”

Danielle immediately realized how rude she had been. She quickly straightened herself and greeted Ivy properly. “Hello, hello, sister-in-law. I am sorry. I was just a little too excited.”

Ivy smiled. “Why were you standing outside without pressing the doorbell?”

Danielle opened her mouth to answer, but before she could say anything, the door was suddenly flung open. Asher appeared.

He was wearing a pink apron with a bright yellow duck printed across the front. The moment he saw Danielle, his face immediately brightened. “Wifey, you’re here.”

Danielle glared at him. Ivy covered her mouth, unable to suppress her laughter.

“Brother-in-law, you are only focusing on your wife. Have you already forgotten that your sister-in-law is standing right here?”

Only then did Asher realise that Ivy was also standing beside Danielle. He quickly moved aside.

“Sister-in-law, please come inside. If you do not sit down within the next two minutes, I will be the one getting spanked by my brother and mother later.”

Ivy chuckled. “If that is the case, then I cannot be heartless enough to let my brother-in-law bear the brunt of his brother and mother.”

She walked inside, and Danielle quickly followed behind her. Danielle’s eyes were practically shining as she looked at Ivy.

Meanwhile, Asher wanted to talk to Danielle, but before he could approach her, he saw her sitting beside Ivy and enthusiastically chatting with her.

“Miss Ivy, I am a huge fan of yours. Could you please sign an autograph for me?”

Ivy laughed. “Sure. You do not have to call me Miss Ivy, though. You can simply call me Ivy.”

Danielle nodded enthusiastically. “Sure, sure. Then I will call you Ivy ma’am.”

Ivy became speechless. So did Asher. This was the first time Asher realized that Danielle was not cold at all.

She could actually be incredibly enthusiastic, but apparently, that side of her only appeared around people she genuinely admired.

Asher quietly sighed. “Great. Now my ranking has dropped below my own sister-in-law.”

He rubbed his forehead before thinking bitterly, ‘It looks like I need to call my brother if I ever want my wife back.’

Meanwhile, Danielle continued staring curiously at Ivy’s slightly rounded stomach. “You’re really pregnant?”

Ivy nodded. Danielle immediately smiled. “Then when will you have the baby?”

Ivy thought for a moment. “I am already more than four months along, so it will most likely be in another five months.”

Danielle’s eyes immediately lit up. “If that is the case, then I will definitely stay by your side during your delivery.”

Ivy suddenly fell silent. However, Danielle did not notice the subtle change in her expression and continued enthusiastically.

“You know, I love children, but I have hardly ever had the chance to have one or raise one. Anyway, with your beautiful pink hair and your husband’s wonderful genes, I am sure that whoever comes out will be the most handsome boy or the most beautiful girl this entire world has ever seen.”

Ivy laughed at Danielle’s words. “That is very kind of you, Danielle.”

Danielle smiled sheepishly. “You are making me embarrassed.”

While the two women continued chatting, Alice suddenly appeared from another room. “So, you are Danielle?”

The moment Danielle heard Alice’s voice, she immediately stood up. “Hello, Miss. Hello, mother-in-law.”

The words left her mouth before she could stop herself. She immediately froze. ‘Did I really just call her mother-in-law?’

Meanwhile, Alice let out a soft chuckle, and even Ivy could not stop herself from laughing. Danielle closed her eyes in embarrassment.

‘Please, Earth, just swallow me whole.’

If there had been subtitles floating above her head, those would have been the only words written there.

Alice smiled warmly. “Yes, I am your mother-in-law. It is nice to meet you, Danielle.”

Danielle opened her eyes. “I am sorry, Miss.”

Alice chuckled. “You can simply call me Alice. There is no need for such formality.”

Danielle quickly nodded. “All right, then. I will call you Alice.”

Alice gestured toward the seating area. “Come, sit down. There is something I want to ask you.”

Danielle nervously sat down. She subconsciously glanced toward Ivy, who gently blinked at her in reassurance.

Almost immediately, Danielle felt the tension slowly leave her body. ‘She is so gentle and amazing, even in real life.’

Danielle almost wanted to hug Ivy, but she quickly restrained herself. Meanwhile, Asher watched the interaction from the corner of the room.

‘If my wife becomes another Ivy fanatic, I am genuinely going to cry. Looks like I need to warn my brother!’

Alice carefully studied Danielle’s face. She noticed her delicate features and clear, attractive appearance. “You are very beautiful, Danielle.”

Danielle immediately touched her own cheek and smiled awkwardly. “You do not have to lie to me like that. I know I resemble a piece of black coal right now!”

Alice shook her head. “That is probably true.”

Danielle’s expression froze. ‘Mother-in-law, you don’t have to be that straightforward…’

Asher glared at his mother.

Realising how inappropriate her words sounded, Alice calmly continued, “However, if you stay indoors a little more and properly apply sunscreen whenever you go outside, there is a high chance that your natural skin tone will return.”

Then, as if that wasn’t enough, Alice added, “I will give you a special scientifically researched cream which has no side effects and suits your skin.”

Danielle smiled. “That is very kind of you.”

Alice nodded before her expression suddenly became more serious. “How serious are you about my son?”

Danielle paused at the question. Even Ivy turned her attention toward Danielle expectantly.

In the corner of the room, Asher immediately perked up his ears. ‘Here we go.’

Danielle looked toward Alice with a serious expression.

“As you might already know, I have had two failed relationships.”

Alice nodded, and Danielle took a deep breath before speaking.

“From both of those relationships, I have learned something important. In a relationship, it is very important for a person to be just as serious about it as their partner is. So, I take this relationship just as seriously as Asher does.”

For a moment, silence filled the room. Then Alice suddenly laughed. This woman was truly diplomatic. Her answer had not displeased Alice in the slightest.

“Yes, that is a good answer.”

She smiled warmly. Even Ivy gave Danielle a thumbs-up from beside her.
