Chapter 813: Edeline's Change
Chapter 813: Chapter 813: Edeline’s Change
Edeline’s expression changed immediately.
“Alice, what do you mean? I never did such a thing.”
Alice only gave her a faint smile, but there was no warmth in it.
“Do you truly think that I did not realize you were trying to sow discord between me and my daughter-in-law so that you could get your daughter released? I knew what you were doing a long time ago, but I deliberately played along. I wanted to see what you were capable of and how far you were willing to go.”
Alice’s eyes became colder as she continued.
“But the moment you started insulting my daughter-in-law, whatever expectations I still had of you disappeared. Edeline, if you had come to me sincerely, admitted your mistake, and your daughter had also admitted hers, I would certainly have asked them to be released. However, now I genuinely believe that locking both of those stupid idiots away was the right decision.”
The words struck Edeline like a slap. Her face flushed with anger, and before she could think about the consequences, she raised her hand.
“You bitch, how dare you!”
The next second, however, Edeline disappeared from the market.
She was suddenly teleported outside.
For a moment, Edeline simply stood there in disbelief, her raised hand still trembling slightly. She had only intended to slap Alice, yet she had been thrown out without even being given the chance to defend herself.
“What just happened?”
She furiously marched toward the entrance and tried to step inside, but an invisible force immediately blocked her. No matter how hard she tried, she could not cross the boundary.
For a while, Edeline could not understand what was happening.
It was only after she remained outside for nearly two days that the realization finally struck her.
Her husband eventually noticed that she was missing and came outside looking for her.
When he found her standing there, exhausted and disheveled, he hurried toward her.
“What happened to you? Why have you been standing outside for two days?”
Edeline quickly explained everything, her voice filled with panic.
By then, her anger had already cooled, leaving behind nothing but fear. She realised that Ivy had most likely established some kind of rule that automatically teleported anyone away if they verbally or physically abused someone within Ivy’s territory.
‘Would Ivy really be this ruthless? Will she refuse to give me even a second chance?’
Her body shivered at the thought.
Her husband, on the other hand, was furious. If he did not love this woman, he would have simply left her there.
‘This stupid woman. What was she even thinking when she decided to do something like that?’
He quickly ran inside and made his way toward Ivy’s apartment. However, before he could even enter the building, a bodyguard stepped forward and calmly stopped him.
“Yes, how may I help you?”
The man immediately explained himself.
“I am here because I want to meet Miss Ivy. My wife made a mistake, and I am here to apologize on her behalf.”
The bodyguard looked at him without the slightest change in expression. “Do you have an appointment here?”
The man quickly shook his head. “No, I do not.”
“Then we cannot let you enter.”
The man was stunned.
After standing there silently for a while, he suddenly dropped to his knees.
“Please, I will stay here if you do not let me enter. I only want to apologise.”
Just as he finished speaking, Ember appeared nearby.
When she saw a man kneeling outside the building, she sighed helplessly.
This was already the twentieth time she had told Ivy to create a rule forbidding people from kneeling outside her building, yet it seemed her sister still had not bothered to make such a rule.
Taking a deep breath, Ember walked toward the man. “What is going on here?”
The man immediately turned around and recognized Ember. He quickly bowed his head and explained everything that had happened.
Once he finished, a brief silence settled between them.
Ember looked at him seriously before speaking.
“I will ask my sister to look into this matter. However, until then, do not even think about pulling any tricks. If I find out that you tried to bypass my security, undermine my authority, or pull some other stunt, then I will have no choice but to personally punish you and your wife as well.”
The man quickly nodded.
“I understand. I understand.”
After kneeling there for such a long time, his legs had gone numb, and his entire body was trembling from exhaustion and fear.
When he finally returned home, the emptiness of the house made him regret, for a brief moment, ever marrying Edeline.
Looking back, he realized that he had made a terrible choice.
He had once been given the opportunity to marry a woman who was deeply devoted to him. However, at that time, he had thought she looked too plain and had rejected her.
Later, as he grew older, he ended up marrying Edeline, who already had a daughter. He had never mistreated her daughter, believing that if he treated Edeline well enough, she would surely appreciate and cherish him.
Who could have imagined that she would still spend her time creating trouble for him?
Meanwhile, Alice learned about Edeline’s situation through Ivy.
Ember had already told Ivy everything that had happened, but rather than making the decision herself, Ivy decided to leave the matter in Alice’s hands.
Alice remained silent for a moment before calmly speaking.
“Let her in, but make sure that she does not come near me anymore. I cannot bring myself to face her here.”
Ivy quietly nodded.
Ivy agreed.
Edeline, who had been standing outside for three days and was almost on the verge of breaking down, was finally allowed back inside. Once she was permitted to enter, everyone expected her to immediately confront Alice. Instead, she calmly walked toward her own daughter, who was locked up in jail.
When Angel saw her mother, she immediately became excited. She hurried toward Edeline, grabbed her arms, and began shaking her repeatedly.
“Mother, what happened? Please tell me that I am finally getting out of here. That bitch Danielle, I will kill her once I get outside. This is all because of her.”
The next second, however, Angel heard her mother’s unusually cold voice.
“Angel, at least now use some common sense. You are making a complete fool of yourself.”
Angel froze, her excitement disappearing from her face. “What do you mean, Mother?”
Edeline let out a bitter laugh.
“What do I mean? Because of you, I was kicked out of the base. You did not even ask me how I was. You could clearly see that I looked haggard and exhausted, yet your first concern was yourself. Sometimes, I genuinely wonder whether you are my own daughter. How can you be so cold-hearted?”
Angel finally came to her senses. Her expression softened, and she quickly tried to calm her mother.
“Mother, please calm down. Do not be so angry. It seems that there has been some kind of misunderstanding. I wanted to ask about your condition as well, but I thought you would be upset. That is why I did not ask what happened to you, Mother.”
However, Edeline was no longer thinking about her.
While she had been forced to remain outside for those three days, she had spent plenty of time reflecting on herself. She had finally realized how arrogant she had become and how much trouble her actions had caused her husband.
She had once believed that her daughter could bring great results in the future. That was why she had been willing to put so much effort into helping Angel, even when it meant humiliating herself or interfering in other people’s affairs.
‘Who would have thought that this daughter of mine would end up ruining everything for me?’
Edeline looked at Angel for a long moment before speaking.
“Just stay here and reflect on yourself. I have already contacted the jailer, and he told me that you will have to stay here for at most two years because of your attempted drugging. If you want to reduce your sentence, then go and beg Danielle yourself. She is the only person who can save you now.”
With those words, Edeline turned around and began walking away.
“Mom! Mom, what are you doing? I am your daughter. If you leave me here, I will never be able to apologize to Danielle!”
