“Are you stupid or what?”
Perry pouted and folded her arms across her chest.
“I already tried my best, but that guy is like a block of wood. He is not changing at all. Now, the only way to deal with him is by breaking his marriage with his wife. As long as I keep annoying his wife, he will have no choice but to back out.”
Hearing that, Ronald slammed the papers onto the desk, his expression darkening.
“Now he already know that I am the mastermind behind this. If you continue attacking him and his marriage so recklessly, everything will be exposed. Change your method.”
Perry paused before a small chuckle escaped her lips.
“All right, then. I will do it, but I will require additional payment for this.”
Ronald waved his hand impatiently.
“It will be transferred to your account tonight.”
Hearing that, Perry smiled brightly.
“I truly love doing business with reasonable people.”
With those words, she sauntered away.
That night, Perry invited Jay to a private meeting, claiming that she wanted to clear up the misunderstanding between them.
She had expected Jay to come alone.
Who would have thought that Ember would tag along with him?
The moment Perry saw Ember, her expression changed for the briefest moment. However, she quickly recovered and turned toward Jay with a faint smile.
“Jay, I only invited you, but it seems your wife is so jealous that she decided to come along. It really seems as though she is quite possessive.”
Jay laughed.
“If someone else had walked up to me and claimed to be my wife’s boyfriend, I would probably become protective as well. Besides, I was the one who invited my wife to come here.”
Perry’s lips twitched.
She glared at Ember, irritation flashing through her eyes.
However, the moment she heard Jay’s next words, her expression froze.
“Glare at her one more time, and I will gouge your eyes out.”
For the first time, both Perry and Ember were completely stunned.
They had always thought Jay was a gentle and easygoing person, but today, it was obvious that Perry had crossed one of his deepest boundaries.
Jay had actually slept outside the apartment.
When Ember saw him lying there, exhausted and uncomfortable, some of her anger finally faded. A small sense of guilt also surfaced in her heart, although she did not say anything about it.
She eventually allowed him back inside.
Jay, on the other hand, was still filled with fury toward Perry.
Now that she had finally given him an opportunity to explain everything, he pulled Ember aside and looked directly at Perry.
“Now, say whatever explanation you have. Tell us everything you wanted to say. I will give you thirty minutes. If you cannot clear everything up with Ember within those thirty minutes, you will be out of this place.”
His words carried absolute conviction.
Perry shivered slightly.
Before accepting this job, she had thought it would be low-risk.
‘As long as I frame this Jay guy like I have framed other people, I will be able to walk away without any trouble.’
That had been her original plan.
But now, as she stood beneath Jay’s cold gaze, she realized that she might have made a serious mistake.
Still, Perry forced a smile onto her face.
“What are you saying, Jay? It is not as though we have never crossed any boundaries.”
Perry turned toward Ember with a serious expression.
“Ember, I know this might sound very uncomfortable to you, but…”
Before she could finish, Jay slammed his hand onto the table.
“You became intimate with me. Is that what you are trying to say?”
Perry quickly responded, “Jay, even if you are trying to threaten me, I will still tell the truth.”
Jay laughed coldly. “Really? Because that does not sound anything like the statement you made when you invited me to this restaurant.”
Perry immediately turned toward Ember, her expression becoming sorrowful.
“I did not want to expose his affair to you, but I simply could not bear watching you being constantly cheated on by this scumbag.”
As she spoke, tears began gathering in her eyes, and she eventually started sobbing.
Ember did not react. She simply watched Perry in silence.
In fact, Ember had already noticed that something about this entire situation was extremely suspicious.
Perry had previously claimed that she was pregnant with Jay’s child, yet she had completely dropped that matter afterward.
She had never mentioned how old the child was, when they had supposedly been together, or when she and Jay had supposedly slept together.
Most importantly, Jay regularly reported his research findings and other important matters to Ember from morning till evening, and at night, he always stayed beside her.
‘If she is truly telling the truth, then when exactly did any of this happen?’
Therefore, Ember simply waited and watched Perry continue her performance.
When Perry realized that Ember was not reacting at all, she shifted her attention toward Jay.
“Jay, I understand that you do not want to accept the truth now that you have such a powerful person behind you. However, you should at least accept one thing. Every human being eventually has to pay for their karma.”
Jay nodded calmly. “Well, they certainly do.”
With that, he took out a document and placed it in front of Ember.
“Now, look at this document before you make any further judgment.”
Perry frowned and quickly reached for the document.
The moment she opened it and read the first few lines, the color slowly drained from her face.
The document contained records of her financial transactions with her own boss, the director.
It also showed that almost every time Perry approached Jay, she received a large sum of money from the director shortly afterward.
Perry’s fingers tightened around the edge of the paper.
She took a deep breath, picked up the glass of water in front of her, and drank it quickly before placing it back on the table.
Then she looked at Jay and forced herself to remain calm.
“Jay, you are overthinking this. He is my uncle. He often sends me an allowance, and there is no particular relationship between us. Or are you trying to frame me as some kind of scheming woman just so you can reduce your own wife’s suspicions?”
Jay laughed. “Do not worry. I prepared even more evidence.”
He took out several additional documents and placed them in front of Ember and Perry.
The moment Perry saw the headline on the first page, she felt as though her soul had left her body.
The word Education was clearly printed across the top.
Beneath it was detailed information about Perry’s educational history.
She had dropped out during high school.
She was not the highly intelligent and exceptionally talented researcher the dean had claimed her to be.
In reality, she was an ordinary person with average abilities.
The only advantage she possessed was that her uncle had recently become the director of the research institute under temporary circumstances.
However, there was a possibility that his position would eventually be taken away and given to Jay.
That was why he had used this dirty method to interfere with Jay’s life and reputation.
The moment Perry realized that Jay knew everything, the last trace of calmness disappeared from her expression.
She slammed her hand onto the table and glared at him.
“What do you truly think? Do you think you have become some kind of innocent person just because you brought these documents here?”
Her voice trembled with anger.
“If I am going down, Jay, then I am taking you down with me. Yes, I might have approached you because my uncle encouraged me to do it, but you also showed me that you were interested in me. Otherwise, why would I have continued hovering around you?”
She abruptly turned toward Ember. “Believe it or not, your husband slept with me.”
With those words, Perry turned around and attempted to leave.
Jay was so furious that he immediately turned toward her.
“You…”
Before he could say anything else, Ember stopped him.
Jay looked at her.
His mouth opened, but he closed it again, uncertain about what he should say.
Finally, he spoke softly. “You do not believe her, do you, Ember? I am telling you the truth.”
Ember shook her head.
Then she suddenly marched toward Perry.
Before Perry could react, Ember grabbed her by the arm, spun her around, and slapped her hard across the face.
The sharp sound echoed through the restaurant.
Perry froze. She touched her cheek in disbelief and stared at Ember.
“What are you doing? How dare you slap me?”
