Chapter 832: Unique Effect Of Vegetables
Chapter 832: Chapter 832: Unique Effect Of Vegetables
“They would surely love her and protect her more, and I do not want to see such a miserable scene.”
Once she finished speaking, Lydia gave Ivy a faint smile.
Ivy froze at that exact moment.
There was something about the little girl’s expression that made a chill run down her spine. It suddenly occurred to Ivy that Lydia might already know the truth about her birth.
Ivy stared at her for a moment before asking, “Even though I did not finish my question, you already understood what I was trying to ask?”
Lydia sighed softly.
“Well, my grandmother’s blood and my grandfather’s blood do not match at all. My parents often beat me, and they eventually left me with my grandparents. As for my other siblings, they do not care about me. They think I am too rough because I have always been the one doing all the work and chores at home, yet no one has ever cared about me.”
She paused, and a faint, almost bitter smile appeared on her face.
“I realized a long time ago that they did not treat me like family at all. It was not something that happened suddenly. I could feel it long before I understood why. I eventually found out about it when I was ten years old. At that age, I still desperately craved the love of a family, but I slowly realized that some kinds of love were only given when people considered you worthy of being acknowledged.”
Ivy looked at her with a complicated expression. “You are truly very smart.”
Lydia smiled. “Thank you.”
With that, she quietly returned to her work.
It was almost as though their conversation had never happened.
Lydia continued serving customers, carrying dishes, and cleaning tables with the same efficiency as before.
There was no trace of sadness on her face, and anyone watching her would have thought that she had never revealed such painful memories.
That same evening, the henchmen finally arrived.
Ivy personally insisted on preparing their food, but Silas eventually took over part of the cooking as well. In the end, they served the henchmen stir-fried vegetables along with crystal dumplings.
The moment the henchmen learned that the dumplings contained crystal ingredients, their eyes immediately lit up with curiosity.
One after another, they picked up the dumplings and swallowed them.
The moment the flavor spread across their tongues, their expressions changed completely.
From their perspective, the food was so delicious that they almost felt as though they had reached heaven.
Ivy watched their reactions carefully.
Although the two men were somewhat loud and straightforward in their manner of speaking, she soon noticed something interesting about them.
‘They are not actually bad people. They are honest to the point of being almost foolish.’
Ivy walked toward them with a smile. “So, sir, did you like our food?”
The first henchman, Aziz, looked at her and smiled. “It was indeed very good.”
He paused for a moment before looking at her again. “You are very beautiful.”
Ivy chuckled. “Yes, I am pregnant, so I suppose that is why I look a little more beautiful these days.”
Aziz froze. A moment later, he burst into laughter. “Miss, you are very smart.”
Ivy smiled back at him.
“But I think you are all smart as well. Here is the thing. We were thinking about sending some food to the City Lord, but we do not have anyone who can deliver it for us.”
She reached beneath the counter and took out a beautifully designed card.
“How about we give you a special subscription card? As long as you deliver our food to the City Lord, you can use this card to eat at our restaurant for an entire month without paying anything.”
Aziz and the second henchman, Vakaro, immediately looked at each other.
From their perspective, this was an incredible deal.
A single month of free food could save them nearly three hundred thousand credit points.
After a brief exchange of glances, both men nodded. “All right, we will reluctantly accept this task.”
Once the two men left with the food, everyone gathered around Ivy.
“What if they decide to eat the food themselves and never give anything to the City Lord?”
“I think they will probably eat everything before they even reach the City Lord.”
Bella sighed.
“They honestly look like foodies. You have picked up a stone and thrown it directly onto your own feet.”
Ivy waved her hand dismissively.
“I think they will definitely return.”
Silas smiled when he heard her confidence.
He had long since learned that when his wife believed in something, he was willing to believe in it as well.
For the next two days, the restaurant remained extremely busy.
The two henchmen continued visiting as usual, and each time, they took food away for the City Lord.
At first, everyone suspected that the men had simply been eating the food themselves and pretending to deliver it.
However, on the third day, City Lord Peng Yong finally appeared.
He entered the restaurant wearing a white robe that looked almost spotless.
His sharp eyes swept across the interior as he walked, carefully examining everything around him as though he were deliberately searching for some kind of flaw.
When he failed to find anything suspicious, he finally sat down and ordered several dishes.
The moment he began eating, his eyes widened with delight.
“This is amazing. This is truly amazing.”
Although he continued praising the food, his eyes repeatedly drifted toward Ivy.
Over the past few days, Ivy had become even more beautiful.
Her skin seemed to carry a faint glow, and there was an almost ethereal radiance surrounding her entire body. Her pregnancy had only made her appearance more striking.
It had even begun worrying Silas.
Recently, more and more customers seemed to be entering the restaurant simply because they wanted to see Ivy, even though she deliberately kept her hair covering part of her face.
‘She is becoming too beautiful.’
Silas could not help feeling uneasy about the attention she was receiving.
The City Lord was no exception. After eating for a while, he suddenly pointed toward Ivy.
“You, come here and accompany me.”
The moment he pointed at Ivy, Silas immediately stepped forward.
“City Lord, please hear us out. We are only a small business. My wife is responsible for preparing most of the food, and if she stops cooking, our restaurant will have no choice but to shut down.”
His expression became increasingly distressed as he continued.
“How will we make a living then? Not to mention that the vegetables we purchased for today’s business cannot be kept until tomorrow. If they expire, we will suffer a huge loss, and our restaurant may completely collapse.”
One after another, Silas listed every possible disaster that could befall their small restaurant.
The people around them gradually began looking at him differently.
Some customers even started pitying the couple.
Others glanced strangely toward the City Lord, as though silently wondering why such an influential person was making things difficult for a small family business.
When Peng Yong finally realized that he had encountered a fox disguised as a harmless man, he could not help smiling.
“What a sly man.”
After finishing his soup and eating the last piece of his fillet, Peng Yong did not leave immediately.
Instead, he remained seated until the restaurant was completely empty.
Once the last customer had walked out and the doors had been closed, the atmosphere inside became noticeably quieter.
Peng Yong looked toward Silas.
“Now, shall we talk about how I was supposedly bullying you?”
Silas did not show the slightest trace of fear.
He simply looked at the City Lord calmly.
“We need a way to enter Princess Catherine’s palace.”
The moment those words left his mouth, Peng Yong’s expression changed completely.
“What the fuck are you even talking about? We were discussing the responsibility you should be taking toward your business, and here you are suddenly talking nonsense.”
Silas chuckled. “Did you eat the food properly?”
Peng Yong frowned. “Yes, of course I ate it.”
He had barely finished speaking when his expression suddenly froze.
He felt something strange moving through his body.
His limbs seemed lighter, and an unfamiliar warmth was spreading through his muscles. The fatigue he had carried for years seemed to have suddenly diminished.
Peng Yong’s eyes widened as realization struck him.
“This vegetable has a unique effect on my body.”
