Chapter 839: Auction
Chapter 839: Chapter 839: Auction
‘Why is this woman charging me ten times the normal price?’
As Bella was wondering about it, she studied the receptionist more carefully.
The woman had a slightly pinkish-silver glow to her skin and wore a neat, silvery professional uniform that reflected the bright lights of the lobby.
The receptionist folded her arms and looked at Bella impatiently.
“If you don’t want to pay, then leave. Don’t continue standing here and take up space that could be used by other customers.”
Bella’s brows furrowed.
“I am ready to rent the room for 20,000 credits. Just stop making things difficult.”
The receptionist’s expression froze.
She clearly had not expected Bella to offer an even higher price.
Before she could respond, Bella casually swiped her card against one of the card holders beside the reception desk.
The device was specially designed to verify whether the person renting a room had enough money in their account.
As soon as the card was scanned, the screen flashed, confirming that the balance was more than sufficient and she was a valid citizen.
This particular card had been given to them by Lord Peng.
However, Lord Peng had warned them to be extremely careful if they used it outside the town.
Some people were clever enough to immediately notice that the card was unusual, especially if they discovered that the holder had no proper ID.
Lord Peng himself had even questioned whether they were some kind of other planet spy because none of them possessed a registered identity.
Bella had eventually given him a reasonable excuse, claiming that they had offended someone powerful and had been forced to retreat to such a remote corner of the planet.
Lord Peng had believed them largely because of the food they served in the restaurant.
He had even assumed that they must have offended someone from the royal family, which was why they were seeking protection from another powerful royal faction.
Whatever the truth was, it worked in their favor.
At present, Bella quickly showed the fake ID and then displayed the card. Only then did the receptionist’s expression improve slightly.
“Here is your key.”
She handed Bella the room key without another word. Bella took it and walked away.
Once she entered the room, however, her earlier irritation slowly disappeared.
She stared around in surprise because, despite the unpleasant experience at the reception desk, the room itself was genuinely beautiful.
It had an incredibly futuristic appearance, with a floor-to-ceiling window covering nearly the entire wall.
Through the transparent glass, Bella could see the city outside, where hovercars moved lazily through the air.
From her perspective, some of them seemed to drift dangerously close to one another, making her instinctively wonder whether they might crash.
However, Bella knew better.
The entire floor-to-ceiling window had been installed with high-tech zooming technology.
When she placed her finger against the glass and dragged it backward, the view outside immediately shifted.
Bella blinked.
The scenery on the screen appeared to move farther away, almost like an image on a computer.
She realized that the window was not merely transparent glass but an advanced display system.
She tapped the surface again. The view returned to its original position.
Bella’s eyes brightened. “Oh, this is interesting.”
She continued repeating the action, zooming the scenery in and out several times.
What had started as simple curiosity quickly turned into amusement, and she kept doing it for the next two minutes before finally tearing herself away from the window.
Eventually, her attention landed on the bed.
The hotel bed looked absolutely amazing.
At first glance, it almost resembled a waterbed, its surface sinking slightly beneath its own weight. Bella could not resist. She immediately threw herself onto it and nearly melted into the soft mattress.
The sensation was so soft and squishy that she instinctively squeezed the blanket beneath her fingers.
Bella smiled happily. “What a wonderful thing this is.”
Before long, exhaustion caught up with her, and she fell asleep.
However, sometime later, Bella began to feel as though someone was approaching her.
The sensation was faint at first, almost like the feeling of being watched from a distance. Then she heard something that sounded like voices calling for her.
Bella’s brows twitched in her sleep. ‘Is there someone else in this room?’
The thought immediately made her more alert.
When Bella opened her eyes, she found herself lying in the same room. It was not dark at all. The lights were still glowing softly, illuminating every corner of the spacious room.
Yet instead of feeling reassured, Bella became even more vigilant.
There was a strange gaze fixed on her.
She had not felt it when she first entered the room, but now she could distinctly sense someone watching her from somewhere in the shadows.
Bella remained remarkably calm.
Rather than immediately confronting whoever was hiding there, she pretended to look around the room casually.
Her eyes swept over the furniture before she slowly closed them again.
Then she began chanting mantras in her regional language.
It just so happened that the people of this world did not understand her regional language.
Sure enough, the moment she began chanting, the presence watching her from the shadows suddenly shifted.
Whatever was hiding there seemed to recoil slightly, as though it had become frightened by the unfamiliar words.
Bella secretly smiled.
She continued pretending to chant for a few moments before finally opening her eyes with an exaggeratedly mysterious expression.
“Now, whoever dares to do anything bad to me will definitely suffer the consequences of karma. This karmic mantra, which I learned from the great Saint Belova, will definitely protect me.”
Her voice carried complete confidence.
The presence in the shadows seemed to grow even more uneasy.
Bella nearly laughed.
‘Thankfully, whoever is hiding here has no idea what I am actually saying.’
She then stood up calmly and walked toward the bathroom.
Once she entered, Bella immediately closed the door behind her and leaned against it.
She patted her chest.
Her heart was thumping far too loudly.
Only after making absolutely certain that there was no one hiding inside the bathroom did she finally relax.
The bathroom was not particularly large, but it was beautifully designed.
A vanity mirror hung above the sink, while a bathtub was positioned nearby.
Beyond that, a glass partition separated the main bathroom area from a wide jacuzzi that looked inviting beneath the soft lights.
Bella walked into the jacuzzi and began soaking in the warm water.
After removing her clothes completely, she allowed herself to relax for a while, letting the warmth ease the tension from her muscles.
When she was finally finished, Bella stepped out and dressed herself before leaving the bathroom as casually as possible.
She looked around.
There was no longer any strange gaze watching her.
Only then did Bella believe that whoever had been hiding in the shadows had finally left.
She quietly patted her chest again and let out a long breath.
“Thank goodness for that weird social media.”
A faint smile appeared on her face as she shook her head.
“I still remember the creator of Y Social Media. Without that, I would never have learned how to bluff my way out of situations like this.”
Belova was one of the creators that Bella followed.
Just as she finished thinking about her, the doorbell rang.
Bella immediately became alert. She walked toward the door and opened it cautiously, only to find the receptionist standing outside with a wide grin on her face.
“You must be hungry. We have an option to order food here, so please call whenever you are ready.”
Hearing those words, Bella simply gave a faint nod without saying anything.
“Thank you.”
Once the door closed, Bella let out a quiet sigh of relief.
The shadow had left.
‘Most likely, the receptionist was involved with whoever was hiding in the shadows.’
The thought made Bella’s expression turn serious.
She had initially assumed that the people of this world were simply arrogant toward hybrids, but after what had happened, she was beginning to understand just how dangerous this entire world of superior beings could be for someone like her.
She needed to be much more careful.
After Bella ate the dinner she had brought with her and stored inside her bag, she left the hotel and headed toward the auction.
When she arrived, she immediately noticed that almost everyone around her looked like nobility.
