Chapter 659: Unexpected Discovery ( 6 )
Knowing the situation in this place was not as good as the Lin’an City Base, Jiao Lizhi gave the Wen brothers some pond water and a bag of boiled eggs. Wen Kai put everything into his backpack before he left with his brothers.
When they arrived at the Wen family’s room, Wen Chang turned to the men who followed them and said, "Thank you for informing me. I will definitely reward you well."
Finally getting his promise, the men smiled with satisfaction, and one of them said, "Captain Wen, your good days will come soon. By then, please don’t forget us, your brothers."
This time, Wen Chang didn’t reply and only smiled. He knew very well how opportunistic, selfish, and greedy these people were. If not because he had no other choices, he didn’t want to have anything to do with these people.
Standing behind their cousin, both Wen Kai and Wen Mo stared at the group with cold eyes. Under their intimidating aura, the group quickly took its leave without looking back.
"Cousin, those people are not good. It’s better not to get too close to them," Wen Kai said.
"Don’t worry, I know what I’m doing," Wen Chang replied while patting his cousin’s shoulder.
After saying this, he knocked on the door and said, "Dad, it’s me."
Inside the room, Wen Fusen heard his son’s voice and went to open the door. The moment he saw his nephews’ faces, he was stunned.
Seeing this, Wen Chang smiled and said, "Father, let’s go inside to talk."
Coming back to his senses, Wen Fusen quickly stepped aside to let them in. After he locked the door, he had already calmed down.
Standing beside their cousin, both Wen Kai and Wen Mo scanned the room. Besides their Eldest Uncle’s family of three, there were also their paternal aunt and her daughter. As for their parents, they were not in the room.
Noticing their doubts, Wen Chang said, "Your parents might have gone out to get some water."
Hearing this, Wen Kai and Wen Mo finally nodded and took their seats.
Since the room was only twenty-five square meters, it was barely enough for the family to place their bunk beds for sleeping. Therefore, there was only one table placed at the center of the room with five chairs.
After everyone took their seats, Wen Fusen finally asked, "Ah Kai, Ah Wen, how are both of you doing in these past months?"
The first question asked was about their well-being. Hearing this, both of them felt something stuffed in their chests. No matter how strong they were or how well their team members treated them, they still longed to be with their families.
"Uncle, we are doing well. When the apocalypse arrived, we were on a mission and managed to escape thanks to our Captain and our members’ help and protection," Wen Kai replied hoarsely.
Seeing how thin and malnourished his family was, he opened his backpack and took out everything. When the Wen family saw the water, dried food, and even boiled eggs, their eyes widened in surprise.
"Ah Kai, where did you get these eggs?" Wen Fuhua asked.
"Aunt, they were given by my team. These are for our family," Wen Kai said and shared the water and food with them.
Just after he said this, they heard a knock on the door. Wen Chang stood up and said, "That must be my uncle and aunt."
Hearing this, both Wen Kai and Wen Mo turned to the door. They stood up and waited with expectation and anxiety.
When the door was opened, they finally saw their parents. Compared to before, their parents looked several years younger.
Their white hair was still there, but their wrinkles lessened, and their eyes were full of spirit. It was just that their clothes were dirty and torn in several places. Adding their oily hair, they looked like beggars.
Seeing their conditions, both Wen Kai and Wen Mo’s eyes reddened. They walked over in large strides and reached out to hug their parents.
Being bear-hugged so suddenly, both Wen Fuze and Jia Liufei were startled. They almost punched the ones hugging them when they heard their eldest son’s voice.
"Mom, Dad, it’s great that you are alive!" Wen Kai said while sobbing.
Noticing how stiff his father was, Wen Mo let go of his hug and pulled his brother away. Afterward, he checked on his parents from head to toe before he heaved a sigh of relief.
Finally seeing their sons’ faces, both Wen Fuze and Jia Liufei came back to their senses. Putting his fist in front of his mouth, Wen Fuze coughed and said, "Alright, stop blocking the door. Let’s go inside first."
Seeing how awkward their father was, they smiled and closed the door.
Unlike Wen Fusen, Wen Fuze didn’t ask about his sons’ well-being. After all, judging by how strong their hugs were, they should be doing well. But while he thought so, his wife, Jia Liufei had her gaze still glued to them as she scrutinized them inch by inch.
Meeting his mother’s gaze, Wen Mo asked, "Mom, how are you doing in these past months?"
The moment he asked this, Jia Liufei waved her hand and said, "We are doing okay. Although we can’t live as well as before, at least we can survive."
After a moment of pause, she asked, "Are both of you still with your team?"
Wen Kai nodded and replied, "Mom, we are now no longer serving as soldiers and have created a mercenary team instead. This time, we came to this city to clean up the zombies and collect supplies."
"When did you leave?" Wen Fuze asked.
"Our Captain only plans to stay for a night. We will leave tomorrow morning," Wen Kai replied.
Wen Mo looked at his family and added, "We are currently living at the Lin’an City Base. When we leave tomorrow, we want to take everyone with us."
Hearing this, the Wen family members had no objection, but Wen Chang had spent a lot of effort to get a foothold in this place. They didn’t know if they were willing to leave with them.
