Chapter 756: Reunion ( 1 )
Chapter 756: Reunion ( 1 )
Hearing her daughter’s voice, Wen Fuhua regained her senses. She looked at the supplies with a complicated expression. "These supplies were given by Jiao Lizhi."
This time, Lu Jiaojiao didn’t say anything. After a moment of silence, she started carrying the supplies into the kitchen. "Since she gave them to us, just take them," she said.
Wen Fuhua nodded and helped her daughter. Although she said nothing, she would remember this kindness. If one day they needed her help, she would not hesitate to repay it.
After she sent Wen Fuhua back, Jiao Lizhi didn’t return to the Phantom Team’s residence but went to the base’s wall. Even during the heavy snowfall, the guards were still patrolling the area.
Every 50 meters, there was a watchtower built similar to a small fortress, where the guards could take a rest during their night watch.
Inside the watchtower, there was a radio connected to the radio towers, allowing them to communicate with each other inside the base. Besides that, there were also two beds, a table, several chairs, a brazier, and some supplies.
At this moment, the guards were resting inside the watchtower. The temperature had already hit -20℃ outside. Even while wearing thick winter clothes and sitting around the brazier, the guards still felt the bone-piercing cold.
Due to the harsh conditions, the guards who were assigned to guard the wall were ability-users. Those ordinary guards were either sent to the public hall, cafeteria, or other assignments where they could work inside buildings.
When Jiao Lizhi arrived, the guards had just finished roasting some sweet potatoes. Seeing her, one of the guards asked, "Comrade Jiao, what brought you here?"
Unlike the guards, she only wore a T-shirt, a long-sleeved sweater, a coat, jeans, and a pair of sneakers. Compared to theirs, her clothes were more suitable for autumn.
After she entered the guard tower, Jiao Lizhi took a seat near the brazier and asked, "I just came out for some fresh air. Comrades, how has the situation been these past days?"
Thinking that she came to patrol the area, the guards thought for a while before one of them replied, "A few hours ago, we saw a pack of snow wolves in the distance. They only stayed for half an hour before leaving. They might have been passing by."
Hearing this, Jiao Lizhi frowned and asked again, "Is there any zoo in this city?"
The guards shook their heads.
Most of the survivors and guards who joined the Green Lake Base were not locals, so they didn’t know much about the situation in this city before the apocalypse.
Since no one knew, she could only say, "That wolf pack might return again. Be more alert and inform my team as soon as possible if you notice anything unusual."
The guards nodded and agreed. "Comrade Jiao, don’t worry. We will take turns resting and won’t leave the base unguarded."
"Thank you for your hard work," Jiao Lizhi said as she took out a box of self-heating hotpot and a bottle of fruit wine made from fruit planted in her space.
"Drink a little wine to warm up your bodies," she added before leaving the watchtower.
"Thank you, Comrade Jiao."
The guards were delighted by the unexpected gain. They didn’t dare to slack off and only drank a small glass of wine, just enough to warm their bodies.
After leaving, Jiao Lizhi went to check the other areas. Besides the snow wolf pack, nothing unusual had happened since the first snow.
Unlike the Green Lake Base and the Lin’an City Base, the situation in other bases was not as peaceful as theirs.
At this moment, a group of people boarded military choppers. As soon as everyone boarded, the choppers took off and flew toward Lunar City.
Not long after, another group of people arrived. Seeing the military choppers flying away, one of them took out his satellite phone and made a call.
Soon after, the call was picked up, and Borislav Morozov’s voice was heard. "How is it?"
"Great General, we are sorry. Erast Tolstoy and his people had already escaped when we arrived."
After a moment of silence, Borislav Morozov said, "Let them be. Leave some soldiers to keep guard there. You can return with the rest."
"Understood."
After the call was hung up, Borislav Morozov glanced at the old man sitting across from him. "Elder Pei, are these the new weapons you told me about before?"
Pei Gan took a sip of his wine before replying, "Don’t judge them by their appearance alone. It took a long time before I managed to create them. They are the most powerful weapons I have right now. You only need one to destroy the entire Lunar City."
Even though he was skeptical, Borislav Morozov didn’t voice it out. He glanced at the three half-human, half-zombie figures in front of him. If not for their pitch-black eyes, he wouldn’t have been able to differentiate them from humans.
"General Morozov, I am only lending them to you. Make sure not to damage them too much. Also, send the weapons to the Jiangning Base as soon as possible."
Hearing this, Borislav Morozov raised his eyebrows and asked, "What’s the rush? Are you planning to do something again?"
"A batch of new subjects will be ready for testing soon. They need some battle testing, but I can’t completely control them yet. So, I need the weapons just in case."
Since both of them were Elders in the organization, it wouldn’t hurt to tell him this much. What’s more, compared to other Elders, they had a closer relationship due to their long cooperation.
"I just acquired a batch of children with decent talent. You might as well stay for a few more days and pick some. I will give them to you."
When he heard this, Pei Gan’s eyes lit up. "How old are they?"
"The youngest is 3 years old, and the oldest is 12 years old."
Pei Gan nodded and said, "The age is suitable. Then, I will stay for a few more days."
"I still have things to attend to. My people will send you to your residence."
Knowing that it was time to leave, Pei Gan stood up and followed the soldiers out.
