Chapter 113 Part 1 – Do You Have Evidence? (I)
After blocking Zhang Rongrong’s contact information, Tong Xu tossed his phone aside and slumped over the steering wheel, dazed. The memory of his first meeting with Jiang Li resurfaced. She was trying on a bridesmaid dress, standing so vividly among the other bridesmaids, immediately catching his attention. His heartbeat had quickened uncontrollably at the first glance, and from that moment on, he couldn’t take his eyes off her.
On the day of his aunt’s wedding, he saw Tong Yi pushing Jiang Li on a swing. He had originally decided to give up, but on his little sister’s casual remark, hope reignited in his heart.
Unfortunately, Jiang Li was still underage at the time, and he couldn’t show even the slightest hint of interest—otherwise, the Feng family would never have let it slide.
Later, under his father’s advice, he went abroad. Even so, he couldn’t help but keep track of Jiang Li. He knew she was the most dazzling girl in their social circle.
The more he paid attention to her, the harder he fell, and he felt certain there would never be another girl who made his heart race like she did. After returning home, he started trying to get close to Jiang Li. Unfortunately, Tong Yi was always a variable—every time he tried to approach Jiang Li, that guy would find a way to sabotage it.
Yet Tong Yi had never been popular with girls. At every social gathering, all the girls’ attention would be on him, a complete contrast to the aversion they showed to Tong Yi. Still, it was Tong Yi whom Jiang Li chose. To make sure he gave up, she even threatened him with Third Master Feng—that’s how much she must have hated him.
Tong Xu slammed a fist into the steering wheel and sat in a daze for a long time before finally driving off again.
…
After buying the ingredients for Tong Yi’s birthday cake, Jiang Li returned to the villa for the actual baking. Seeing him loitering around in the kitchen, she said to him, “You don’t have to stay here the whole time. Once the cake’s done, we’ll come call you.”
After a few seconds of silence, Tong Yi suddenly asked, “Can I learn to make the cake with you?”
Jiang Li looked surprised. “You’re actually interested in this?”
Tong Yi nodded. “Why not? It sure looks pretty fun.”
Since he was the birthday boy today, Jiang Li didn’t argue with him for once. “If you want to learn, go ahead. Whether you get the hang of it depends on yourself.”
Tong Yi grinned. “If it turns out well, I’ll share it with you. If not, I’ll eat it myself—won’t be a waste either way.”
Jiang Li gave him an approving look. “Uh-huh, such a good nephew.”
Under Jiang Li’s guidance, Tong Yi made several cakes. The flavor was nothing special, but it was a lot better than Jiang Li’s initial expectation. Still, it was enough to ruffle Tong Yi’s feather. “Looks like I have a little talent after all,” he bragged. “If I keep practicing, I should be able to master it soon.”
Jiang Li nodded. “Sure, sure. Keep at it.”
Tong Yi wanted a lively birthday celebration, so he naturally needed to invite more people. But since he had spent all three years of high school abroad, there weren’t many people he could invite.
To fulfill his wish, Jiang Li invited a few of her former classmates who also attended universities in Beijing.
As soon as Wang Simin arrived, she hugged Jiang Li tightly. “Our Prodigy God Jiang, it’s been so long! Let me sponge off your academic aura.”
Jiang Li laughed. “We’re not even in the same major. Probably won’t help.”
Wang Simin replied seriously, “Come on, it will help for sure! My scholarship depends on you.”
“We’re only a few months in and you’re already aiming for scholarships?” Jiang Li asked curiously.
Wang Simin nodded like a pecking chicken. “Our school has scholarships available even for the first years. If I do well on my final exams and have a good overall performance, I have a chance at getting it.”
Jiang Li nodded. “Well, then I wish you luck.”
Wang Simin joked, “No need to wish me luck—just lend me a little bit of yours.” Then she turned to Qin Zheng. “I think you could lend me some, too.”
Qin Zheng smiled and shook his head. “I was hoping to borrow some luck from Jiang Li myself. I don’t have any to spare for you.”
Everyone burst out teasing Qin Zheng, saying he wasn’t as generous as Jiang Li.
Amid all the laughter and chatter, Jiang Li walked over to Tong Yi and whispered, “Well then, Big Nephew, how about I make you a cake every year for your birthday?”
Tong Yi’s eyes lit up instantly. “You really mean that?”
Jiang Li nodded. “Of course! It’s much easier than planning for a gift.”
Tong Yi: “…”
What he thought was a heartfelt promise turned out to be Jiang Xiao Li’s laziness!
Nevertheless, he was still overjoyed. For her to say something like that meant she planned to spend every one of his birthdays with him, that she had included him in her future!
Staring straight into Jiang Li’s eyes, Tong Yi solemnly promised, “From now on, on your birthday each year, you can ask me for a wish. As long as it’s something I can do, I’ll make it come true for you.”
Jiang Li gave him a disdainful look. “What kind of bogus blank check is that? As long as I ask for something you don’t want to do, you’ll just say you can’t!”
Tong Yi quickly defended himself, “I’m not just saying it casually. Even if it’s something really hard, I’ll still do it for you. And I’ll still get you a gift on your birthday—this doesn’t conflict with that.”
Jiang Li patted his arm with a smile. “I see. My Big Nephew sure is filial.”
In that case, only baking a cake in lieu of a birthday present seemed a bit insincere. Since he was being so generous, she figured she’d add a present too from now on!
Qin Zheng glanced at Tong Yi, then at Jiang Li, and suddenly thought the two of them actually looked quite compatible.
Noticing his gaze, Tong Yi grinned, raising his voice, “Didn’t the campus beauty from our department try to chase you recently? How did that go?”
Qin Zheng looked surprised. “Campus beauty? What are you talking about? Are you guys already ranking the prettiest girl in our department?”
“…!” Tong Yi was appalled. ‘You scheming bastard!’
Seeing Jiang Li’s curious expression, Tong Yi immediately explained, “That’s just something I heard from other guys in class. As for who the campus beauty is, or whether it’s a guy or a girl, I have no idea.”
Wang Simin looked shocked. “A male campus beauty is chasing our vice class president?”
Tong Yi responded seriously, “That’s a question for your vice class president. I have no idea.”
Qin Zheng: “…”
Right…. Tong Yi is not one to be provoked!
