Chapter 124 Part 1 – I Won’t Let You Fall (I)
Hearing Tong Yi grinding his teeth, Lin Zhao knew he was already very annoyed, so he calmly changed the subject. “You have gone all the way to gift Jiang Li an amusement park, why don’t you go out and play with her?”
Tong Yi immediately forgot how annoying this guy was just now and smiled as he replied, “Kids like to go to amusement parks with people they get along well with. Wen Wan is more suitable for that role than I am.”
Seeing her bright smile through the surveillance footage, he knew he had made the right choice. From now on, he would do everything he could to make sure every day of Jiang Xiao Li’s life was filled with joy.
Lin Zhao didn’t quite understand this way of thinking. You have done so much for the sake of your secret crush, yet dared not to confess!
“If Jiang Li never figures it out, are you just never going to confess?” He couldn’t help but ask again.
Tong Yi fell silent for a while before shaking his head, “I don’t know either, but I always feel like the time hasn’t come yet.”
Lin Zhao wanted to give this guy a piece of his mind: If you keep dragging this out, by the time Jiang Li figures it out, she might actually fall for some other guy!
But he didn’t dare say that to Tong Yi. Jokes were fine, but taking them too far would make you annoying.
…
In no time, the girls had tried almost every attraction they could. “Did Tong Yi rent out this amusement park, or is he the owner?” Jiang Li asked.
Wen Wan replied right away, “He bought it and renovated it. He said it was your birthday gift.”
Jiang Li raised an eyebrow. “If he’s giving me a birthday gift, why didn’t he just tell me himself and bring me here? Why ask you to do it?”
Wen Wan was momentarily stunned, then shook her head. “I’m not really sure either. I hadn’t even been here before today—Tong Yi only gave me the address today. He asked me to bring you, saying he wanted to give you a surprise.”
The corners of Jiang Li’s mouth lifted slightly. “Well, he definitely pulled off the surprise. But it’s still strange that he didn’t show up himself.”
Her birthday fell on the Saturday. Today was Friday, and she and Wen Wan had come after class. They had tried many attractions and even took a break to eat, so it was already quite late by the time they finished. The lights in the amusement park turned on one by one, and when Jiang Li looked around, she saw a large message formed by LED lights: Happy Birthday, Jiang Xiao Li.
It was a bit cliché, but Jiang Li couldn’t help feeling happy!
As she enjoyed the display, Tong Yi walked out from behind the rows of LEDs and smiled. “Jiang Xiao Li, happy nineteenth birthday.”
He was wearing a white jacket today, and under the glow of the lights, he looked just like a prince. It was as if he had blended into the surrounding night—an almost dreamlike sight. Jiang Li saw Tong Yi often, but at this moment, she suddenly felt like he looked just a little bit different from usual.
Tong Yi walked up to Jiang Li step by step. He raised his hand and affectionately ruffled her hair. “Why so quiet all of a sudden?”
Jiang Li tilted her head and looked at him. “How long have you been preparing this birthday gift?”
Tong Yi hadn’t expected that question, but he answered truthfully, “It didn’t take too long, but I just managed to get it done before your birthday.”
“I heard from Wen Wan that you’re giving me this amusement park?”
Tong Yi nodded and said softly, “Yeah. Today I had it closed to celebrate your birthday, but after that, it’ll open for business to the public. All the money it makes will be yours.” Jiang Xiao Li liked money, so he figured out ways to help her make more. That way, she could spend it however she wanted.
Only then did Jiang Li realize that even before giving her this gift, Tong Yi had already planned everything out in detail for her. She smiled at him. “You’re not going to tell me this amusement park is part of my profit share, are you?”
Tong Yi was momentarily stunned, then shook his head. “Of course not. This is your birthday present. Do you like it?”
Of course Jiang Li liked it; she liked it very much, but she still couldn’t resist teasing him. “Didn’t you already bribe Wen Wan to investigate my preferences? Why are you still asking?”
Wen Wan skipped over to Lin Zhao. “I think Jiang Li looks very, very happy today. Don’t you think so too?”
Lin Zhao chuckled. “She’s only this happy because of you, little traitor.”
Wen Wan quietly protested, “This doesn’t count as a betrayal. Don’t you think Jiang Li really liked the birthday present?”
Friendship was about helping each other and sharing information—she passed along what Jiang Li liked to Tong Yi, and in return, he told her what Lin Zhao was like on campus. By that logic, she and Tong Yi could probably be considered allies.
Lin Zhao whispered, “They probably have a lot to talk about right now. Want to walk around a bit?”
“Where to?” Wen Wan was thrilled. She and Jiang Li had already explored most of the amusement park, but if Lin Zhao wanted to go around again with her, she wouldn’t mind going ten more times!
“Wherever you want to, of course.” Lin Zhao chuckled. “As long as you like it.”
“How about the haunted house?” She immediately suggested. That would give her the perfect excuse to leap into Lin Zhao’s arms when she got scared!
Lin Zhao raised an eyebrow. “Didn’t you already go there with Jiang Li?”
Wen Wan’s eyes widened. “How did you know?”
“Oh, uh… just a guess. Didn’t you?” Lin Zhao coughed lightly. Tong Yi was right about one thing—girls liked to keep some secrets. There was a good chance that Wan Wan didn’t want him to know how terrified she looked in the haunted house earlier.
“You guessed right!” The girl grinned. “But I’m thinking of going again to train my nerves a bit.”
So the two left together, but Jiang Li didn’t even notice. All her attention was on Tong Yi, commenting on his gift, “This year’s birthday present is awesome, yes, but not without its flaws.”
“What flaw?” Tong Yi asked immediately. As long as Jiang Xiao Li pointed out what she didn’t like, he could improve it next time—since he planned to spend every one of her birthdays with her from now on.
“The flaw is that when your birthday comes around, it’ll be a real headache figuring out what to give you in return,” she said honestly. This guy had given her an entire amusement park—if she gave him just some small thing, it would feel extremely half-hearted.
Tong Yi quickly replied, “I know what you like, so I gave you something you’d like. And you know what I like—just give me that when it’s my birthday.”
Jiang Li raised an eyebrow. “But all I know is that you like handmade gifts.”
“Exactly!” He nodded. “I like handmade gifts. For example, the scarf you gave me—I really liked it. If you’re willing to make me something else, I’m sure I’ll love it too.”
As long as it was from Jiang Xiao Li, he’d love anything.
“Are you dumb or something?” Jiang Li poked his arm. “Handmade gifts aren’t worth much. Don’t you feel like you’re getting the short end of the stick?”
Tong Yi smiled, caught her hand, and opened her palm to examine it carefully.
Jiang Li couldn’t help but laugh. “Don’t tell me you’re trying to read my palm?”
Tong Yi shook his head. “I was just thinking—anything made by this beautiful hand surely is priceless. Compared to that, giving you an amusement park… is nothing.”
Jiang Li: “…”
What the heck—this usually cheeky Big Nephew wasn’t even arguing with her and had suddenly become so agreeable? It was a bit unsettling, to be honest. And for some reason, she suddenly took notice of how nice his hands were too: long fingers, well-defined knuckles, much larger than hers. He could easily cover her entire hand with just one of his.
Jiang Li was startled by her own thoughts and awkwardly tried to pull her hand away, finding it surprisingly easy to do so. She looked at Tong Yi and warned in a low voice, “If you want to talk, talk properly—no touching. Otherwise, don’t blame me if I beat you up.”
Tong Yi nodded. “You’re the birthday girl today—whatever you say goes.”
His hunch had been right: Jiang Xiao Li blushed when she saw his abs, and she clearly reacted when he held her hand, but she hadn’t actually gotten angry. Could that mean she had feelings for him too—she just hadn’t realized it yet?
Jiang Li: “…”
With him being so well-behaved, it strangely made her feel like she was the one being unreasonable!
Trying to distract herself, she glanced around and suddenly asked in surprise, “Where did Wen Wan and Lin Zhao go?”
Tong Yi paused, then guessed, “Maybe they went to the haunted house?”
