Chapter 151 Part 2 – Dog Walking (II)

Jiang Li laughed. “Fine, Aunt will take you out for barbecue, so you can die from overeating instead.”

Swimming was physically exhausting, and Jiang Li, being a beginner, had trained for quite a while. She was indeed feeling pretty hungry.

They found a nearby food street and ordered a huge spread. Tong Yi watched her dig in with gusto, and the smile in his eyes only deepened.

Jiang Li pushed the plate of skewers toward him. “Why aren’t you eating?”

Tong Yi said softly, “If I say I’m already feasting with my eyes, will you hit me?”

Jiang Li immediately pulled the plate back. “Then don’t eat. I’ll finish it myself.”

Tong Yi laughed. “You think you can eat all this on your own?”

Jiang Li replied without hesitation, “So? I can pack it to go.”

Tong Yi grinned playfully. “I’ll have a bit then. After all, good food and a beautiful girl—neither should be wasted.”

Jiang Li stared at him for a few seconds. “Have you been reading dating guides recently?”

Tong Yi shook his head immediately. “Why would I read that kind of stuff? Our Jiang Xiao Li is so one-of-a-kind, no strategy out there would ever work on you.”

He was telling the truth. He had skimmed through one or two articles before, but after reading them, he’d realized they were useless.

If he actually followed any of those tips to pursue Jiang Xiao Li, she probably would’ve punched him long ago.

He hadn’t read any real romance guides, but his roommates loved idol dramas, and he’d picked up a few pickup lines here and there from watching with them.

Still, that wasn’t something he needed to tell his girlfriend.

Tong Yi firmly denied it, but Jiang Li didn’t quite buy it. She narrowed her eyes, suspicious. “Why do I feel like that cheesy line earlier didn’t sound like something you’d say?”

Tong Yi cleared his throat. “Then just assume I had a momentary lapse in sanity.”

Yep, he’d learned firsthand that cheesy lines from idol dramas really weren’t meant for his Jiang Xiao Li!

Jiang Li pushed the plate back toward him. “You’d better eat before it gets cold. It really won’t taste good then.”

They’d ordered a lot of barbecue, but somehow still finished it all. After leaving the stall, Tong Yi looked at Jiang Li and asked, “Shopping or a movie? Pick one.”

Since Jiang Xiao Li didn’t like being told what to do, he figured he’d give her the choice.

Jiang Li answered immediately, “Let’s watch a movie. Then go back to campus.”

Tong Yi had no objections, so the two of them headed for the nearest cinema.

On the way, Jiang Li pulled out her phone to check for good movies and saw that the highest-rated one at the moment was a suspense film.

She handed her phone to Tong Yi. “Want to watch this?”

Tong Yi nodded without hesitation. “Up to you.”

Jiang Li read the film synopsis and felt it suited her taste, so she bought tickets online.

When they got to the cinema, she looked at Tong Yi. “The movie’s about to start. You go get the popcorn, I’ll pick up the tickets. That’ll save some time.”

Tong Yi nodded right away and went to stand in line for snacks.

When he came back, Jiang Li asked in surprise, “Why’d you buy Coke too?”

As soon as the words left her mouth, several people nearby turned to stare at her in unison—with expressions like she’d just said something utterly inappropriate.

Tong Yi’s mouth twitched. He quickly grabbed her hand and pulled her away.

Jiang Li followed him into the theater. Seeing that the room was nearly full, they headed straight for the last row according to the seat numbers on their tickets.

The two of them had just settled into their seats, but the movie hadn’t started yet. Jiang Li looked at Tong Yi with a puzzled expression and asked, “What was that about just now?”

Tong Yi looked a little awkward. “It was nothing. Those people were just being weird. Don’t mind them.”

Jiang Li immediately saw through his attempt to brush it off, but she genuinely couldn’t figure out what went wrong. She frowned and said, “All I said was that you bought Co—”

Tong Yi quickly reached out and covered her mouth, lowering his voice. “Don’t say it! Or we’ll get stared at again.”

Jiang Li pushed his hand away. “Seriously, what’s going on?”

Tong Yi leaned in close to her ear and whispered a sentence.

Jiang Li’s face turned bright red in an instant.

It took her quite a while before she turned to look at him and said, “You sure know a lot.”

Tong Yi immediately explained, “I don’t know that much. You’re my first love.”

Jiang Li nodded thoughtfully. “But you are pretty well-informed.”

Tong Yi replied helplessly, “It’s not like I went looking for that stuff. The guys in the dorm talk about all kinds of things without filtering anything. I just happened to overhear a few things.”

Jiang Li asked curiously, “Do you join those conversations?”

“Of course not. I don’t have any experience. I can’t really join in.”

Jiang Li could tell he wasn’t lying, so she started munching on popcorn and sipping her Coke while waiting for the movie to begin.

Once the movie started, Jiang Li realized that although it was marketed as a suspense film, it definitely leaned toward the horror genre.

It was actually pretty good. The actors’ expressions and emotional delivery were spot-on. The background music during scary scenes was also excellent, making it way more entertaining than the haunted houses at amusement parks.

But surprisingly, Tong Yi didn’t seem scared of these horror scenes at all.

She turned to look at him, only to find him watching intently, completely unfazed.

Jiang Li: “…”

Thinking back to when they went to a haunted house together, everything suddenly became clear.

This guy clearly wasn’t afraid of ghosts at all, yet he’d put on a terrified act back then!! Just to take advantage of her!

Yes, take advantage.

At the time, they weren’t even dating, but he’d clung to her and wouldn’t let go. If that wasn’t taking advantage, what was?

She glanced at Tong Yi again. He finally sensed her gaze, leaned over, and asked in a low voice, “What’s wrong?”

Did Jiang Xiao Li not like the movie?

But he thought it was pretty good! The suspense wasn’t super complex, but the plot twists and dialogue were engaging—it definitely deserved its high rating.

Jiang Li smiled at him. “I think this totally counts as a horror movie. I was actually planning to comfort you, but I guess you’re handling it just fine!”

Tong Yi: “…”

He let his guard down!!!

If Jiang Xiao Li had dragged him into a haunted house, he would’ve remembered to stick to his “terrified” act. But this was just a movie… he’d completely forgotten.

Tong Yi glanced at her cautiously and said in a low voice, “It’s a suspense film, not a horror film.”

Jiang Li nodded. “I know. Let’s just focus on the movie, alright?”

Tong Yi: …

Jiang Xiao Li’s calm expression… was she just the quiet before the storm?

For the next hour or so, Tong Yi fidgeted in his seat, unable to concentrate on the film. Meanwhile, Jiang Li seemed completely focused. Every time he tried to speak, she would pretend not to notice his hesitant looks.

By the time the movie finally ended—before they’d even left the theater—Tong Yi grabbed her hand and said immediately, “If you’re really mad, just hit me. I admit I was in the wrong.”

A smart girl like Jiang Xiao Li… once she sensed something was off, there was no use trying to talk his way out of it. He might as well come clean and plead leniency.

Jiang Li looked at him with a smile. “I thought you were going to explain the difference between a suspense film and a horror film.”

Tong Yi shook his head. “There’s no difference, of course. It was all my fault. Go ahead, just hit me.”

Jiang Li stood up and began walking out. Tong Yi quickly followed, trailing behind her step by step.

Suddenly, Jiang Li turned around and said, “How about this—you analyze the movie for me. If your analysis satisfies me, then I won’t be mad.”

Tong Yi made a conflicted face. “I only watched the first twenty minutes or so… I didn’t really pay attention to the rest.”

After saying that, he braced himself for impact. But to his surprise, Jiang Li suddenly burst into laughter. “Fine, I’ll forgive you for now.”

“Huh?” Tong Yi was confused.

Jiang Li slipped her arm through his. “I said I’m not mad, you big dummy!”

The movie was a hundred minutes long, and Tong Yi had spent over an hour of it in full-on panic, worried she was angry. He’d missed most of the film because of that.

Thinking about how anxious he must’ve been during that entire hour, Jiang Li couldn’t possibly stay mad.

Tong Yi: “…”

People always said girls were the most complicated creatures on the planet. He hadn’t believed it before, but now, maybe he did.

Still, Jiang Xiao Li not being angry was definitely a good thing!

With that in mind, Tong Yi pulled out a small, delicate ring from his pocket. “When I was buying the popcorn and Coke earlier, there was a lucky draw, and I won this. Do you think it looks good?”

Jiang Li looked surprised. “You’ve got pretty good luck.”

Tong Yi smiled. “I think so too. But it’s clearly just silver—probably not worth much.”

Jiang Li, easy to please, replied, “That’s already pretty nice. Popcorn and Coke aren’t expensive, after all.”

Tong Yi handed her the ring. “Here, wear it for fun.”

Jiang Li muttered softly, “Rings aren’t something you just wear ‘for fun.'”

Tong Yi took her hand and slipped the ring onto her middle finger. “You can wear it for fun now. When I propose someday, I’ll give you a proper one.”

Jiang Li challenged him on purpose, “And what if I don’t say yes when you propose?”

Tong Yi replied instantly, “Then I’ll keep proposing until you do.”

Jiang Li: “…”

Proposals aren’t some kind of game. Why would anyone need to propose multiple times?

“It’s getting late,” she eventually said. “Take me back to campus.”

Tong Yi immediately took her to the parking lot. After driving her to the other side of the medical school, he parked the car and got out to walk her back.

Just as they reached the campus gate, Jiang Li’s phone rang. She took it out and saw the caller ID: “Broadcast Station Manager.” She answered right away.

“Where are you right now?” Feng Bai’s voice sounded… a little off.

“I’m at school,” Jiang Li answered truthfully.

Feng Bai was silent for a few seconds before saying, “You’re probably not inside the gate yet, are you?”

Jiang Li blinked. “Third Brother, how did you know that?”

Feng Bai was silent again for a few more seconds before he said, “I not only know you’re outside the school gate. I also know you’re walking a dog.”

Jiang Li looked down at her hand—fingers interlaced with Tong Yi’s—and immediately had a guess.

Feng Bai continued, “You know, when you’re walking a dog, a leash is enough. You really don’t need to hold its paw too.”

Jiang Li: “…”
