“Huh?” Wen Wan looked surprised, then lowered her voice. “Actually, the guy in the photo doesn’t look like your second brother either. Your second brother has a gentler vibe, not this icy, cold look. But… is your third brother mad at Tong Yi?”

Jiang Li: “…”

He’s probably pretty mad, correct. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have dragged Tong Yi off with such a dark expression.

But Tong Yi’s acting skill was good, and he had a smooth tongue on top of that. He should be able to smooth things over with her third brother!

After listening to their conversation, Zhang Rongrong quietly let out a sigh of relief, thinking that thankfully, she hadn’t said anything inappropriate just now.

When she first refreshed the forum and saw that photo, her knee-jerk reaction was to think that Jiang Li was two-timing, and the guy in the photo had found out, which led to that dramatic scene outside the campus gate.

Jiang Li had always kept Tong Yi hanging and refused to make things official. That must’ve been because of this other guy!

Zhang Rongrong kept refreshing the post and found that quite a few people shared her theory, which made her feel even more certain she was right.

She had almost blurted something out to Jiang Li earlier, but luckily remembered what she’d read in The Emotional Intelligence Training Manual, and stopped herself in time. Otherwise, she probably would’ve gotten roasted by Jiang Li and Wen Wan again!

Thinking of the comments on the forum, Zhang Rongrong gave a small cough and remarked, “Jiang Li, there’s a small group of people who misunderstood and think you’re two-timing the guys. Don’t you want to clear that up?”

Wen Wan sighed. “Our school forum is anonymous. Even if Jiang Li explains, no one will believe her unless she uploads a family photo. But why should she have to do that? Those rumor-spreaders are disgusting.”

She refreshed the page, ready to jump into the comments section and argue with the trolls, only to find someone had already posted a photo of Jiang Li from when she first enrolled.

In the picture was Jiang Li with her family: a benevolent grandfather, a warm uncle, and a pair of handsome twin brothers—one mature and composed, the other sunny and handsome. They all looked alike to some degree, and it was obvious they were family.

The person who posted the photo claimed it was a candid shot taken back then, and though they hadn’t planned to share it, they couldn’t stand seeing people twist the truth anymore.

Once the photo was up, the tone of the thread shifted dramatically. The few people who had insisted Jiang Li was two-timing were swiftly buried under dozens of floors of rebuttals from helpful comments.

After tearing the rumor-mongers to shreds, the crowd returned to gossiping about the photo of the three people together, speculating on why Goddess Jiang’s older brother had glared at Tong Yi with such a scary expression.

This time, everyone agreed: Goddess Jiang’s family had found out about the relationship, and her brother clearly disapproved of his soon-to-be brother-in-law. It looked like Tong Yi was going to have a hard time winning over the big brother.

The thread exploded with comments. Though a few people expressed sympathy for Tong Yi, the majority couldn’t help gloating. After all, if he had managed to win over Goddess Jiang, then suffering a little was probably what he deserved.

Wen Wan read through the posts and hummed, “I know it’s not very kind to laugh at this, but I can’t help it. Tong Yi getting past your Third Brother? That’s going to be a challenge.”

Jiang Li: “…”

Yeah, her third brother might not be on board yet, but she wasn’t too worried.

What she was worried about, though, was how Third Uncle would react if he found out about her dating Tong Yi. He’d probably be furious.

If she came clean to him now, would he go easy on her?

After Feng Bai dragged Tong Yi away from Jiang Li’s campus, the two of them walked aimlessly down the street.

Seeing how upset the other guy clearly was, Tong Yi softly suggested, “How about we find somewhere to talk?”

Feng Bai gave him a shove and sneered, “What could I possibly have to talk about with a dog like you?”

He’d trusted this bastard so much before. Looking back now, he felt like he’d practically led a wolf into the house.

If Third Uncle found out about this, he’d probably go after Tong Yi first… and then come after him.

Tong Yi could actually understand Feng Bai’s feelings. After thinking for a few seconds, he said, “Jiang Xiao Li and I are in love with each other. I’ll treat her well for the rest of my life. I won’t let anyone hurt her.”

Feng Bai sneered again. “And how much effort did it take to make her fall for you? What kind of tricks did you use to seduce her?”

Tong Yi: “…”

“You came running to me, saying Tong Xu was making a move on her. Can you honestly say you weren’t just using me to get rid of a rival?”

Tong Yi: “…”

Seeing his silence, Feng Bai understood everything. He stared coldly. “Let’s go to a gym and spar. I haven’t fought in a while—itching to move a bit.”

Tong Yi hesitated for a few seconds, then nodded. “Alright.”

They pulled up a map app and went to the nearest martial arts gym. After Feng Bai

Tong Yi was about to ask for gear, but Feng Bai looked at him in surprise. “Weren’t you used to be a school thug before? You actually need equipment?”

Knowing Feng Bai was still pissed, Tong Yi didn’t argue.

When they were younger, Feng Bai had trained in sanda with Feng Song. Though he wasn’t as gifted as his twin, he had solid fundamentals, more than enough to handle a few street punks.

To Feng Bai, Tong Yi was now no different than those punks.

If Tong Yi ended up being stronger and hurt him during the fight, he could go running to Xiao Jiang Li and play the victim—show her just how violent that bastard really was!

Once they started fighting, Feng Bai’s confidence only grew, because Tong Yi was clearly not his match.

Every time he launched an attack, Tong Yi would defend himself seriously, but his defense was too weak. In less than five minutes, he’d taken several solid punches.

At first, Feng Bai was quite pleased with himself, thinking Tong Yi was all bark and no bite. But then, when he threw a punch toward Tong Yi’s face and Tong Yi didn’t even try to dodge, he suddenly panicked.

This was Xiao Jiang Li’s boyfriend, after all. If he really ended up hurting him—especially in the face—she would definitely be upset.

At the last second, Feng Bai forcibly pulled his punch to the side. But to his surprise, Tong Yi turned with the punch too, and although they didn’t collide head-on, his fist still grazed the corner of Tong Yi’s mouth.

Feng Bai froze for several seconds before roaring, “Are you made of wood? You couldn’t even dodge that?!”

Tong Yi grinned, “You threw the punch so fast. I was planning to dodge, but then you suddenly changed direction. I didn’t have time to react.”

Feng Bai: “…”

Am I even that good?

His frown deepened, “Weren’t you supposed to be a local thug at junior high? I even heard people say you were undefeated in the area.”

Tong Yi wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth with his thumb and said in a low voice, “That was a rumor my uncle deliberately spread. I’m not actually that tough.”

At the mention of Tong Bingran, Feng Bai frowned again. “That uncle of yours really is something else. But those rumors were so convincing, I honestly thought you were the real deal.”

Tong Yi’s expression turned sorrowful. “Back then, I was only a teenager, with no formal training. Even if I could fight, how many people could I actually take on? I already knew what my uncle was trying to do with those rumors, but I didn’t have the power to stop him. All I could do was let him slander me.”

Realizing he had touched a sensitive topic, Feng Bai’s expression turned a bit awkward. After a few seconds of silence, he stiffly changed the subject: “Let’s not talk about that right now. We should talk about you and Xiao Jiang Li.”

Tong Yi let out a sigh. “I never meant to keep it from you.”

Feng Bai looked at him incredulously. “Do you even believe that?”

If he really hadn’t meant to hide it, there had been plenty of chances to come clean. Why hadn’t he ever said a word?

Feng Bai silently swore to himself that he would stand firm this time and not let this dog talk circles around him again.

Tong Yi said in a low voice, “I know you won’t believe me. But I really do like Jiang Xiao Li. And you know what my uncle is like… he’s always looking for ways to suppress me. If he found out how I felt, he’d definitely try to sabotage it. That’s why I didn’t dare tell anyone.”

Feng Bai: “…”

That… does sound pitiful.

“You… can just talk normally. Don’t act pitiful in front of me. That stuff doesn’t work on me.”

That’s what he said, but Feng Bai’s attitude had clearly softened.

Tong Yi stayed silent for a few seconds, then slowly said, “I know it sounds unbelievable. Honestly, I wasn’t even trying to deceive you. I never thought Jiang Xiao Li would actually return my feelings.”

Feng Bai frowned. “You never thought she would?”

Tong Yi nodded immediately. “I didn’t dare to hope. She’s so amazing. I always thought I wasn’t good enough for her.”

Feng Bai: “…”

Actually, you don’t need to sound that pitiful, really.

This kid… actually isn’t that bad. Feng Bai thought silently. All in all, he was definitely better than Qin Zheng, and compared to Tong Xu, it was like heaven and earth.

Moreover, Jiang Xiao Li had known him for so many years, so it wasn’t surprising she’d fall for him.

The real reason Feng Bai had been so furious today was because Tong Yi had deceived him, used him as a pawn, and shown no sincerity.

But after hearing his explanation, Feng Bai found himself kind of understanding where he was coming from.

Tong Yi had lost his parents young, and his uncle treated him terribly. Deep down, the kid was insecure; he couldn’t even admit it when he liked someone.

That was… quite pitiful.

After a long silence, Feng Bai looked at Tong Yi, frowning, “Since Xiao Jiang Li likes you, I can’t say much as her brother. But Third Uncle… probably won’t be that easy to deal with. Good luck with that.”

Tong Yi immediately nodded. “Thank you for the advice, Third Brother.”

Feng Bai: “…”

What advice? That was clearly gloating!

Watching the genuine emotion in Tong Yi’s eyes, Feng Bai sighed in resignation before finally saying, “Don’t call me Third Brother. I’m still not accepting your relationship.”

Not that he dared to agree, anyway!

Otherwise, once Third Uncle found out, he’d be the first to get skinned alive.

After they left the gym, Feng Bai pulled out his phone and called Jiang Li, telling her to come out for dinner.

When she picked up and heard the unexpectedly calm tone in his voice, she quickly said, “I’ll be right there—just wait a moment.”

She threw on a jacket and rushed out of the dorm, following the location he sent her. But the moment she stepped into the restaurant, she immediately noticed a very obvious bruise at the corner of Tong Yi’s mouth.

Feng Bai noticed her gaze and instantly looked guilty, worried she’d feel bad for her boyfriend and think he’d gone too far.

Tong Yi, on the other hand, acted completely unfazed. He smiled at Jiang Li and said, “Come on, let’s eat. I was walking too fast just now, tripped, and hurt my face. You should be careful, too.”

Jiang Li: “…”

That lie was so obvious. How did he even manage to say it with a straight face?

And Feng Bai looked relieved, like he was off the hook. Then he gave Tong Yi a mocking look and said, “Xiao Jiang Li isn’t clumsy like you. Who trips just walking down the street? You should worry more about yourself.”

Honestly, he hadn’t expected it—Tong Yi turned out to be pretty loyal. Even though he was the one who hit him, the kid still made up a cover story.

Which probably meant… he really did care about Xiao Jiang Li a lot.

Jiang Li: “…”

She’d only stepped away for a short while. Just what in the world had happened between those two?!
