Chapter 153 Part 1 – My Girlfriend Says No To Ear Kisses (I)

Jiang Li stared at the wound at the corner of Tong Yi’s mouth for several seconds before silently walking over and sitting across from the two of them.

Although she didn’t know exactly what had happened between these two, she could tell that the injury on Tong Yi’s face was definitely Feng Bai’s doing. Otherwise, Feng Bai’s attitude toward him wouldn’t have changed so drastically.

After sitting down, Tong Yi immediately handed her the menu and said gently, “I’ve already ordered a few of your favorite dishes. See if there’s anything else you want to add.”

Jiang Li glanced over the items he’d picked and saw that all her favorite dishes were already checked. She shook her head. “No need. That’s already more than enough.”

Feng Bai shot Tong Yi a sideways glance. “You sure know her tastes. Must eat together often, huh?”

Jiang Li quickly responded, “Not that often. Just occasionally.”

Feng Bai clicked his tongue. “So even when he was chasing you, he didn’t take you out to eat much? Guess he’s good at saving money.”

Tong Yi smiled and explained, “Jiang Xiao Li’s always busy with her studies. It’s not easy to get a chance to meet her, so I got used to it.”

Feng Bai didn’t doubt that, since Xiao Jiang Li was practically a copy of their Third Uncle, both total study maniacs. Even when she was home on break, she often followed Third Uncle to the research institute and rarely ever relaxed.

In that light… Tong Yi’s love life sure seemed pretty tragic.

Feng Bai gave him a schadenfreude-filled look. “It’s a good thing when girls focus on their studies. As men, we’ve got to be understanding, right?”

Tong Yi nodded obediently. “Of course, of course. Otherwise, Jiang Xiao Li wouldn’t have chosen me.”

Feng Bai: “…”

Back in the day, whenever he and Tong Yi bantered, it was always a back-and-forth—win or lose, it was still fun.

But now, Tong Yi had this look of “whatever you say is right”, which made it completely boring.

During the meal, Jiang Li noticed Tong Yi barely touched his food, which confirmed that the wound in his mouth must’ve really hurt.

She couldn’t say anything with her third brother sitting there—no point ruining the just-barely-peaceful atmosphere between them. She figured it was better to wait until Feng Bai left, then go buy some ointment and help Tong Yi treat the wound.

Jiang Li’s silence on the topic made Feng Bai quietly breathe a sigh of relief. After the meal, he said to her, “I already booked a flight to Minjiang tonight. Just walk me to the cab.”

Jiang Li looked puzzled. “You just got here today, and you’re leaving already?”

Feng Bai explained, “I’m here on a business trip and just stopped by to see you. I’ve got to get back tonight—work again tomorrow, it’s hectic.”

Hearing that, Jiang Li naturally couldn’t insist he stay longer.

After Tong Yi paid the bill at the front, the three of them left the restaurant. When Feng Bai saw that Tong Yi was still following, he frowned. “We siblings have just met up and are saying goodbye. Why don’t you read the room and keep your distance for once?”

Although he had decided not to oppose their relationship anymore, Tong Yi was still a bastard who had stolen his sister! Just seeing this guy’s face annoyed him, so he couldn’t help but take a jab.

Tong Yi maintained a good temper. “Sure, you two go ahead and talk. I’ll just wait nearby and walk Jiang Xiao Li back to school later.”

Seeing how agreeable he was, Feng Bai felt even more bored, but still muttered under his breath, “You really think someone with your scrawny build can walk Jiang Xiao Li home? If you two ran into trouble, you’d only drag her down. That’s just a fact.”

Jiang Li: “…”

Now she was sure that these two had definitely fought behind her back. Tong Yi had probably gone easy and let Feng Bai win, which was why he was getting so smug now.

But if that was all, it wouldn’t explain the sudden attitude change. She figured Tong Yi must have played the “tragic backstory” card too, which had softened her brother up.

The siblings walked side by side for a while before Feng Bai turned to her and asked, “You really like Tong Yi that much?”

Jiang Li nodded without hesitation. “Yeah, I do. Even though I can’t really explain what I like about him.”

Feng Bai was quiet for a few seconds before saying, “Tong Yi’s not bad. But if you two are going to be together, you shouldn’t keep it from the family.”

He had often referred to Tong Yi as “Big Nephew” before, but now that he knew they were dating, he could no longer call the guy like that.

Jiang Li pursed her lips and said softly, “We only made it official today. We haven’t had time to tell anyone yet.”

Feng Bai looked surprised. “Just today?”

Jiang Li nodded immediately. “Yeah. It’s been less than ten hours. But I bet you don’t believe that.”

Seeing that she didn’t look like she was lying, Feng Bai nodded slowly. “Fine, I believe you just got together today. But don’t try to tell me you only started liking him today too.”

Trying to fool him? Not that easy. Even if he wasn’t the most perceptive guy, he wasn’t dumb. There was no way this was some “love at first sight” deal—it had to be something that built up over time.

And when feelings develop gradually like that, your mindset shifts. It takes time to be sure. So even if they just got together, they’d definitely been tiptoeing around it for a while.

Jiang Li hadn’t expected Feng Bai to suddenly become so sharp, so she changed the subject. “Did you and Tong Yi fight earlier?”

Feng Bai: “…”

If one-sided beatdowns count as fights… then sure, yeah—they fought.

Seeing him stay silent, Jiang Li immediately put on a pitiful expression. “Third Brother, you messed up his face.”

Feng Bai’s mouth twitched, and he replied timidly, “That little injury will be gone in a few days, won’t even leave a mark. Besides, I didn’t mean to hit his face. He’s just too slow to dodge.”

Jiang Li looked heartbroken. “But I’m shallow. I care about looks. Now that he’s this ugly, I don’t even feel like talking to him for the next few days.”

Feng Bai let out a startled “Ah,” then quickly said, “It’s just a scratch! Sure, it looks swollen, but it’s not that bad. Maybe… just don’t look at his face too closely?”

Jiang Li sighed. “But I heard from Tong Yi that he scars easily. If this leaves a scar, I’d feel like I really got shortchanged.”

Feng Bai took a deep breath and said with conviction, “It won’t scar. Let’s go get him some ointment—apply it and it’ll be fine.”

With that, he dragged her off to the nearest pharmacy.

He was mad that Tong Yi had “stolen” his sister, sure, but he never intended to break them up.

If Tong Yi’s face did end up scarred, and Xiao Jiang Li broke up with him over looks, then that would definitely be on him.

At the pharmacy, under the staff’s recommendation, Feng Bai bought cotton swabs, rubbing alcohol, and a small tube of anti-inflammatory pain-relieving ointment.

After they left the store, he handed the plastic bag to Jiang Li. “Give this to him for me. I’ve got a flight to catch, so I won’t say goodbye to him.”

Seeing Feng Bai’s awkward expression, Jiang Li really wanted to laugh, but she held it in. She even put on a sad look and said, “Not sure if the ointment will help. Tong Yi wasn’t even better-looking than you to begin with. If this really scars, he’ll be even uglier.”

Feng Bai immediately retorted, “Who says he’s not better-looking than me? He just looks a little fierce, that’s why girls don’t usually like him. But if you look closely, his features are actually pretty decent. And I’m not the only one who thinks so.”

Jiang Li looked surprised. “Really?”

Feng Bai nodded without hesitation. “Of course it’s true. Chinese people don’t lie to Chinese people. Go ask someone else if you don’t believe me.”

Jiang Li pretended to hesitate for a moment, then nodded. “Alright, I believe you, Third Brother.”

Seeing her like that, Feng Bai finally breathed a sigh of relief. But then he couldn’t help asking, “So… when are you planning to tell Third Uncle about you two?”

This time, Jiang Li genuinely paused. She said softly, “Of course I’ll tell him. I just haven’t figured out how to say it yet. But this kind of thing… probably shouldn’t be done over the phone. I’ll need to talk to him in person.”

Feng Bai immediately said, “I don’t care how you’re going to break the news—just don’t let Third Uncle find out that I knew before he did.”

Jiang Li looked surprised. “You’re really not going to snitch on us?”

Feng Bai didn’t hesitate. “Of course not. If he finds out I knew and didn’t say anything, he’ll think I was helping you hide it. Just pretend I didn’t visit your school today and didn’t see you two holding hands.”

Jiang Li let out a relieved breath. “Got it. Don’t worry, Third Brother. I definitely won’t tell him.”

As long as her third brother kept her secret, then Third Uncle wouldn’t know she was already dating Tong Yi. And if she brought it up herself, he wouldn’t feel like she was keeping it from him.
