After typing the keywords into the search bar, Tong Yi tapped the search icon, and his phone instantly brought up several related results.
He skipped over the first two ads and clicked on a normal Q&A thread below. After reading the original post and the first reply, his eyes widened.
Was this user seriously answering the question… or seriously going off the rails?
Tong Yi slowly scrolled through the rest of the replies, quickly skimming each comment. After piecing everything together, he came to a conclusion: Jiang Xiao Li’s reaction was completely normal—her ears were simply a sensitive spot, which explained why she’d reacted so strongly to being stimulated there.
In other words, on day one of dating, he had already found his girlfriend’s weak spot?
But… could these online replies even be trusted?
The way to verify them was simple enough: when Jiang Xiao Li came out in a bit, he could just repeat what he did earlier…
Tong Yi propped his chin on his hands, tongue pressing lightly against the corner of his lips, his mind replaying the image of Jiang Xiao Li going soft and pliant in his arms. His body immediately had a reaction.
But he quickly pushed that thought down.
Jiang Xiao Li had just warned him not to kiss her ear or blow into it again. Even if he wanted to test what the internet said, today was definitely not the time.
It was only their first day together. If he pushed things too far, she’d definitely get upset. Worse, she might start keeping her guard up around him, and then he’d lose his chances to be alone with her again.
He had fallen for her years ago, and since then, he’d always taken the slow and steady route to win her heart. Now that he’d finally succeeded, he needed to be even more patient. If he scared her off now, he’d regret it for the rest of his life.
Tong Yi locked his phone and stuffed it back into his pocket, silently reminding himself not to rush things. He and Jiang Xiao Li were going to be together forever—there was no need to hurry anything. Let everything unfold naturally.
She’s his future wife. He should respect her choices, not just focus on his own desire.
Once he made peace with that, Tong Yi lay back on the sofa, zoning out as he waited for Jiang Li to finish washing her hands.
Inside the washroom, Jiang Li placed her hands under the faucet. It was a long moment before she remembered to pull them away. She dried them with a towel, but instead of leaving right away, she leaned over the sink, both hands bracing the edge, and stared into the mirror.
The moment in the living room replayed in her mind, and she felt her cheeks heating up again. Seeing her slightly flushed face in the mirror, she shook her head hard and lightly slapped her cheeks, trying to snap herself out of it.
When Tong Yi kissed her ear just now, it was like her body stopped obeying her brain; her mind went completely blank, and she couldn’t think at all.
Now that she’d cooled down, she realized: her ears were definitely a sensitive spot.
Jiang Li stared at her ears in the mirror and even reached up to pinch them gently. But they didn’t itch, let alone make her go weak in the knees.
So… her ears were sensitive, but not to herself.
Could it be that they only reacted to Tong Yi?
Or was it that they reacted to everyone except herself?
To find out, she needed to conduct an experiment.
She’d already decided—once she got back to the dorm, she’d have Wen Wan whisper in her ear. That should give her a clear answer.
But regardless of whether her ears only reacted to Tong Yi or not, the fact remained: he now had a major advantage over her. That annoying guy was bound to use this trick on her all the time!
Just thinking about it was irritating, and not because she thought too badly of him. If the roles were reversed and she found out his ears were a weak spot, she’d absolutely mess with him every other day.
Jiang Li spaced out in front of the mirror for a bit longer, then dipped her fingers under the motion-sensor faucet. Using a bit of water, she scribbled on the mirror:
“Tong Yi the Annoying Brat.”
Staring at the words, Jiang Li suddenly felt a little better.
But the very next second, she saw Tong Yi the Annoying Brat’s actual face appear in the reflection.
He had entered the washroom and was now standing behind her, grinning openly at the water-written words on the mirror.
Jiang Li had stayed in there so long he couldn’t help but come check on her, and he definitely hadn’t expected to catch this.
He had known her for years. In his mind, she had always been clever, composed, and logical. But now he was discovering that she had such a childish side—and that flustered look when she realized he’d seen her note? Priceless.
He loved the smart, composed Jiang Xiao Li. But he also adored this adorable, slightly silly version. He wished he could spend every minute of every day discovering new sides of her.
Tong Yi reached forward and hugged Jiang Li from behind, resting his chin on her shoulder as he asked gently, “So tell me, what exactly do you find so annoying about me? I promise I’ll try to change.”
Jiang Li looked at his reflection and muttered, “If you’re really so annoying, do I even need to explain it? Shouldn’t you be reflecting on it yourself?”
The warmth of his breath on her neck tickled a little, but it was nothing like the overpowering sensation from earlier. It was still within the range she could handle.
Tong Yi quickly agreed, “Yes, I’m annoying. If Jiang Xiao Li says I’m annoying, then I definitely am. No doubt about it.”
His completely biased stance made Jiang Li laugh. She slipped out of his arms, turned to face him, and asked, “What you just said… does it mean you’ll agree to whatever I ask from now on?”
Without hesitation, Tong Yi nodded. “Yep. I’ll handle the big decisions in our household, and you get to make all the small ones.”
Jiang Li narrowed her eyes. “And what exactly counts as ‘big,’ and what counts as ‘small’?”
Tong Yi smiled. “Well, something like a UN presidential election, I think? That’d be a big deal, while everything else is small.”
Jiang Li burst into laughter. After a while, she looked up at him and said softly, “Then from now on, you’re not allowed to touch my ears.”
Tong Yi: “…”
He’d just discovered his girlfriend’s first sensitive spot, and immediately got banned??
Seeing him hesitate, Jiang Li reached out and poked his chest. “You just said I get to decide all the small stuff, and now I’ve only made one request, and you’re already unwilling? Don’t tell me… You think this is more serious than a United Nations presidential election?”
Tong Yi grabbed her hand and said gently, “I just really like the way you look when I kiss your ear… Can’t you let me do it once in a while?”
Before Jiang Li could reject him, he quickly added, “In exchange, you can touch me anywhere you want. I mean it—my whole body belongs to you. Touch me however you like.”
Jiang Li: “…”
Sure, that sounded sweet, but he was clearly refusing her request!
But… he did just say she could touch him anywhere?
With that in mind, Jiang Li immediately raised her arm and placed her hand on Tong Yi’s ear. “In the interest of fairness, let me touch your ear first.”
What if his ears were sensitive too?
Unfortunately, they weren’t. Jiang Li squeezed them several times, but Tong Yi just calmly looked at her the whole time.
Bored, she let go. Tong Yi looked at her with a half-smile. “Are my ears soft?”
“Huh?” Jiang Li had no idea what he meant.
Tong Yi scooped her up and carried her out of the washroom, setting her down on the sofa before asking, “You’ve never heard of the phrase ‘having soft ears’ before?”
Jiang Li looked confused. “I’ve only heard of cat ears… What’s Soft Ears? Some kind of snack?”
Tong Yi sat down beside her, held her head in his lap, and explained in a low voice, “Soft ears isn’t a snack—it’s a Sichuan-Chongqing dialect term. It means a man who’s afraid of his wife. Basically, a henpecked husband.”
One of his roommates was a Sichuan native who’d once used that phrase to tease another guy in their dorm, and then explained what it meant. Tong Yi had thought at the time: that term suits me.
Well, back then, Jiang Xiao Li hadn’t been his wife. Technically, she still wasn’t now, though it was only a matter of time.
After his explanation, Jiang Li blushed and lightly punched him. “Don’t say things like that. I’m not your wife.”
Tong Yi replied softly, “Not yet. But someday you will be. And when that day comes, my ears are yours to pinch for life. I’ll be your soft ears guy forever. Sound good?”
Jiang Li nestled into his arms, finding a comfortable position before saying softly, “But Grandpa and Third Uncle still don’t know about us. What if they don’t approve?”
Hearing this, Tong Yi immediately perked up. “Grandpa has always been fond of me—I doubt he’d object. As for Third Uncle… I’ll prove my sincerity to him, so he’ll feel at ease entrusting you to me.”
Now that he was officially Jiang Xiao Li’s boyfriend, calling them “Grandpa Feng” and “Third Master Feng” no longer felt right. He’d have to start calling them differently, at least when he was alone with her.
Of course, when actually facing them, he wouldn’t dare be so casual.
Jiang Li didn’t notice that he’d changed how he addressed them. She only caught the phrase “entrusting you to me” and pouted softly. “Entrusting? I’m not some item to be handed over.”
Tong Yi tapped her nose lightly. “Of course not. But I wouldn’t mind being an item. If I could be your pendant and stay with you all the time, that’d be perfect.”
His words were dramatic, but they still made Jiang Li feel happy. Still, she couldn’t help teasing him. “If you were really my pendant, I wouldn’t wear you every day. That’d be too boring.”
Tong Yi grinned. “Then I’ll just marry into your family. As long as your uncle approves of me, I’ll move into the Feng household. That way I can be your ‘personal accessory’ all the time.”
Jiang Li’s cheeks turned red. “You’ve been way too smooth with your words lately. Where’d you learn all this?”
Tong Yi looked shocked. “You think I need to learn? I’m naturally gifted. I’ve always been a self-taught genius, thank you.”
Jiang Li didn’t bother arguing. Instead, she sighed lightly. “I still haven’t figured out how to tell Third Uncle about us.”
Tong Yi immediately said, “Well, you definitely can’t tell him the whole truth.”
Jiang Li looked surprised. “Why not?”
Tong Yi grinned. “Because if your uncle finds out I’ve been eyeing you for years, he’ll probably want to break my legs.”
Jiang Li burst into laughter. “Uncle’s not that unreasonable. Don’t exaggerate.”
Tong Yi: “…”
In his memory, Third Master Feng wasn’t an unreasonable person, but he was definitely not the type to be easily reasoned with either.
Even as a kid, he’d heard all sorts of legendary stories about Third Master Feng. Those couldn’t all be just rumors, could they?
Still, Jiang Xiao Li clearly had a rose-colored filter on when it came to her uncle. There was no point arguing with her about it.
What he should be focusing on… was how to earn her uncle’s approval.
