Chapter 155 Part 1 – Pray For The Best (I)
After Feng Qi emerged from the lab, he was planning to return to the dormitory to rest as usual, but unexpectedly found his assistant waiting for him outside.
Assistant Kong looked at his boss with hesitation, clearly struggling to find the right words.
Feng Qi raised an eyebrow at him. “Someone grabbed you by the throat?”
Assistant Kong immediately shook his head, then cautiously said, “It’s about… Miss Jiang Li.”
Feng Qi was momentarily stunned. “Xiao Lizi?”
Assistant Kong gave a soft cough and nodded in reply. “Miss Jiang Li… she might possibly maybe be in a relationship now.”
Even though Assistant Kong had used three tentative words in a row, Feng Qi still frowned.
He took out his phone and saw that Xiao Lizi hadn’t texted him about anything related to dating. His expression darkened further.
Feng Qi was silent for a while before he asked, “Is it confirmed?”
“I didn’t dare to ask Miss Jiang Li directly, but… It’s probably almost certain,” Assistant Kong cautiously said while watching Feng Qi’s expression closely.
Feng Qi tapped his fingers lightly on the table and said slowly, “Tell me the details.”
Not knowing where to begin, Assistant Kong simply pulled out his phone, opened a post on the forum, and handed it over.
Feng Qi took the phone and slowly scrolled through the screen. After a long while, he suddenly let out a cold laugh and asked, “Feng Bai has too much free time lately?”
Assistant Kong silently lit a candle for Young Master Feng Bai in his heart, then answered honestly, “Young Master Feng Bai has been in charge of Feng Group’s IT operations since he graduated. He shouldn’t be that idle.”
Feng Qi insisted, “But I think he’s way too idle.”
Assistant Kong hesitated for a few seconds before cautiously probing, “Then… Third Master, are you planning to let Young Master Feng Bai face some setbacks so he can grow quickly?”
The Feng family had deep foundations and could afford some internal turmoil. If Third Master really wanted to teach his nephew a lesson, it wouldn’t be impossible. The losses would be minimal anyway.
But… would Third Master really go that far?
Probably not, because that didn’t fit his personality at all.
If anything, Third Master might make a few calls and send Young Master Feng Bai off to some military training. That seemed more in character.
Sure enough, Feng Qi looked at him and said expressionlessly, “Did you forget he’s my nephew?”
Assistant Kong nodded immediately. “I also didn’t think you’d do that, sir. So are you planning to send Young Master Feng Bai to military training?”
Feng Qi frowned. “I send him off to the military, and then hand his work over to you?”
Assistant Kong didn’t dare to speak anymore. The Third Master had always been the most unpredictable person—only Miss Jiang Li seemed to have any control over him. He shouldn’t have tried to guess his intentions just now!
After thinking it over, Feng Qi said, “Isn’t he in charge of IT operations? Then find a way to give him more work. He doesn’t seem to be doing anything meaningful with his free time anyway.”
Assistant Kong nodded immediately. “I’ll arrange it right away.”
After saying this, he didn’t leave immediately. Feng Qi looked at him and asked, “Something else?”
Assistant Kong nodded and inquired, “Third Master, are you planning to head to Beijing in the next few days?”
Feng Qi hesitated for a few seconds before saying, “Book me a flight tonight. Don’t let Xiao Lizi know.”
Assistant Kong nodded immediately, then went off to make the arrangements.
…
After Tong Yi and Jiang Li confirmed their relationship, they quickly received congratulations from Qin Zheng and Lin Zhao.
Tong Yi wasn’t surprised that Lin Zhao knew about the relationship—if Wen Wan knew, then Lin Zhao would definitely know too—but the fact that Qin Zheng found out so quickly caught him off guard.
He looked at Qin Zheng and raised an eyebrow. “Where did you hear about it?”
Qin Zheng teased, “A photo of you two holding hands was posted on Jiang Li’s campus forum. The replies on that post are almost as high as those for a celebrity scandal. You might as well be the local top star now.”
“You actually check another school forum?” Tong Yi looked genuinely surprised.
Qin Zheng explained, “Even if I don’t, people around me do. After your photo with Jiang Li got out, a bunch of girls in our class started wailing like they’d just been dumped.”
Tong Yi frowned. “I’m not even close with the girls in our department. Don’t talk nonsense.”
If Jiang Xiao Li found out, she might think he was attracting unwanted attention. That wouldn’t do!
Qin Zheng shook his head and chuckled. “They’re not heartbroken because of you.”
Tong Yi rolled his eyes. “Then why tell me that? What’s the point?”
Qin Zheng smiled meaningfully. “Don’t you know Jiang Li has fans of both genders? There are a few little fangirls of hers in our department. After they found out she’s dating you, they suddenly think you’re hateful.”
Tong Yi: “…”
I have to worry not only about male love rivals… but also female ones?
Seeing his shocked expression, Qin Zheng laughed even harder. “There’s this petite girl in our major who always calls Jiang Li ‘hubby.’ You seriously didn’t know?”
Tong Yi frowned. “Are you messing with me?”
Qin Zheng shrugged. “I’m just telling the truth. If you can’t handle it, that’s not my problem.”
Tong Yi was always so quick with his words, but this time Qin Zheng felt like he finally scored a win!
Of course, he had no intention of telling Tong Yi that those girls were just joking online. They also called another girl from the basketball team ‘hubby’ in the same breath.
However, Tong Yi didn’t stay annoyed for long. He quickly adjusted his mood and lazily replied, “Our Jiang Xiao Li is undeniably charming. I’ve always known that. But you wouldn’t understand that kind of feeling, since you don’t even have a girlfriend.”
Qin Zheng said with a blank face, “So having a girlfriend is such a big deal?”
Tong Yi adjusted the Jiang Xiao Li-brand scarf around his neck and said nonchalantly, “Yeah, it kind of is. You have no idea… Actually, forget it—once you get a girlfriend, you’ll understand.”
Qin Zheng: “…”
Tong Yi’s mouth probably only knew how to behave when Jiang Li was around!
After the conversation with Qin Zheng ended, Tong Yi couldn’t resist sending a message to Jiang Li, telling her what had just happened. Five minutes later, he got a very succinct reply:
[Childish]
Tong Yi cheerfully stuffed his phone back in his pocket, then turned on the computer at his desk and began handling his tasks in an orderly manner.
…
Time passed slowly, and as Qingming Festival
1 approached, Tong Yi began to feel a growing sense of nervousness.
He and Jiang Xiao Li had already agreed that during the Qingming break, they would go back to Minjiang City together and come clean to her grandpa and uncle about their relationship.
Tong Yi had imagined many possible scenarios for meeting her elders, and had mentally rehearsed them countless times. He’d planned out how to behave once they arrived at the Feng family’s home, aiming to leave a good impression.
But what he never expected was that, before Qingming even arrived, Jiang Xiao Li’s uncle would show up in Beijing to find him!
Feng Qi arrived around 8 PM. At the time, Tong Yi had just parted ways with Jiang Li and then received a call from him.
The moment he saw Third Master Feng, Tong Yi knew their relationship had been exposed. The way Third Master Feng looked at him was so scrutinizing, like he was evaluating a product.
Naturally, Tong Yi didn’t dare address him as “Uncle.” He very politely called him “Third Master Feng,” and then didn’t know what else to say.
Feng Qi glanced at him sideways with a look of distaste. “You act like this in front of Xiao Lizi too?”
Tong Yi: “…”
Of course not.
He was usually quite well-behaved in front of Jiang Xiao Li. Though sometimes he’d get a bit cheeky, as long as she wasn’t angry, he’d push his luck further.
But Third Master Feng isn’t Jiang Xiao Li!
“Let’s find a place to talk properly,” Feng Qi said coldly, his expression unreadable.
Tong Yi nodded immediately. “There’s a café across from our campus—”
Feng Qi cut him off. “No need to go outside the campus. Just somewhere we can talk. Let’s go to the lake.”
He hadn’t informed Xiao Lizi about this trip to Beijing. If they went to a public café near campus, there was a real chance they might run into her.
Since Third Master Feng suggested the lake, Tong Yi had no reason to refuse. The two of them walked there and entered an empty pavilion.
Once seated, Feng Qi didn’t tell Tong Yi to sit down. Tong Yi stood respectfully in front of him, looking more like a well-behaved elementary schooler in front of a teacher.
Feng Qi didn’t bother with pleasantries. After a long silence, he asked, “When did it start?”
