Chapter 1282: Infiltration
Chapter 1282: Infiltration
Within the stone‑walled chamber of Sebas’ fortress, the twelve knights of the Order of the Sky Sword gathered once more.
Commander Arthur sat at the head of the long table. He couldn’t help but frown as he listened to the report delivered by the scout who had witnessed the Dawnblades unleash divinity.
“Is it really Divinity?”
He couldn’t help but doubt it since there shouldn’t be any divine power within this world anymore. The era where celestial beings roam around the world had already ended a long time ago.
“The Dawnblades used a crystal with Immortal power…” the scout said, bowing low. “The beasts fled instantly. I believe it was divinity itself.”
The room fell silent.
Sir Roland slammed his fist against the table. “That proves it! They must be blessed of the invaders. No ordinary adventurers wield artifacts of those celestials… We should strike them down before they gain more influence.”
Lady Sera raised a hand calmly. “Not so fast, Roland. Consider their actions. Have they behaved like invaders? They have fought corrupted beasts, protected merchants, and even taken low‑tier missions to aid commoners. Their reputation in Atrium City is one of service, not conquest.”
Another Knight joined the conversation.
“She is right. If they were invaders, why would they waste time helping peasants and guilds? Their deeds have strengthened the city, not weakened it.”
Roland scoffed. “That could be a disguise. What better way to infiltrate than to win the people’s trust?”
Arthur stroked his beard, deep in thought.
“The prophecy of Mennena warned us of invaders. Yet the Dawnblades do not fit the pattern. They are mysterious, but their actions have been undeniably helpful. Even Baron Silva failed to find faults about the adventurer’s team.
Still, another knight, Sir Albrecht, spoke hesitantly.
“Perhaps they are not the invaders themselves, but pawns. Used by forces from another realm without realizing it. That would explain their artifacts and their strength.”
The council murmured in agreement. The uncertainty weighed heavily. Were the Dawnblades saviors, or a hidden threat?
Sera’s eyes squinted…
“If we frame them as invaders without proof, we risk turning the people against us. Atrium City already admires them. To strike them down now would make us tyrants in the eyes of the common folk.”
Arthur nodded slowly. “Indeed. The people see them as heroes. If we destroy them hastily, we may lose the city’s trust. But if they truly are invaders, ignoring them could doom us.”
Silence lingered until one of the knights with long blond hair spoke up.
“Then perhaps the answer is not destruction, but observation. We must learn their true nature. If they are allies, they may become our strongest defense against the prophecy. If they are enemies, we will know their weaknesses before striking.”
Arthur’s eyes gleamed. “Yes… Infiltration is a good option, Bon. One of us must join them. A knight of the Sky Sword, disguised as an adventurer, will join the Dawnblades…”
Roland frowned. “That is dangerous. Whoever goes may be corrupted by their influence.”
Sera countered, “Or enlightened by their truth. Hehe… If they are saviors, we will need them. If they are invaders, we will expose them.”
Arthur rose as he made up his mind.
“It is decided. We will not yet condemn the Dawnblades. Instead, we will send one of our own to join them. Through this, we will learn whether they are the salvation of Davai… or its doom. Bon, can you do it?”
Bon was momentarily stunned after hearing this, but he also realized that he was the most suited knight for this mission.
“Alright… Let me take care of them. If I find out that they were enemies, then I’ll just eliminate them all. No need to get permission, right?” Bon asked.
“That’s right. As long as you can guarantee that, then you can do as you please. Alright… Dismissed.”
The knights bowed their heads as they finally ended the short meeting.
***
Bon was not a man easily overlooked.
He was tall and broad‑shouldered, with long blond hair tied neatly behind his head, he carried himself with the confidence of a knight.
Though he no longer wore the armor of the Sky Sword Order beneath his cloak, he had exchanged it for simpler adventurer’s gear, blending into the crowd.
Inside Atrium City, Merchants shouted their wares, children moved through the streets, and adventurers of every rank moved between taverns and the guild hall.
Bon soon arrived at the Adventurers Guild… He was here as a gold‑rank adventurer seeking missions.
Inside, the hall smelled of sweat, steel, and ale.
Bon approached the registration desk, presenting documents that marked him as a seasoned adventurer. The clerk glanced at him, then at the papers, and nodded. “Sir Bon… You’ll find plenty of missions suited to your level.”
Bon gave a curt nod. “I’ll take a look.”
He moved toward the mission board, scanning the parchment notices pinned across its surface.
Escort jobs, beast hunts, caravan protection… all familiar tasks. Yet his attention was not on the missions themselves, but on the voices around him.
Near the board, a group of adventurers spoke in hushed tones.
Bon tilted his head slightly, listening.
“The Dawnblades again,” one muttered. “They cleared out the two-horned wolves near the river last week. Saved a whole caravan.”
Another scoffed, though admiration lingered in his tone. “They’re too good. Not even backed by nobles or churches, yet they act like a proper guild. Makes the rest of us look lazy.”
“Word is Baron Silva gave them a difficult mission. It was something big. If they succeed, they’ll get land. Imagine that… adventurers owning territory.”
Bon’s eyes narrowed. The Dawnblades were indeed thriving just like they thought. Their reputation had spread far beyond rumors.
To the ordinary people, they were heroes.
He stepped away from the board, pretending to study the notices while absorbing every word.
Then, as he was thinking of how to approach the Dawnblades, he suddenly heard something absurd.
“Still, I heard that they have a couple of Platinum Rank adventurers joining their team.”
