Chapter 325: Can’t Stop Me Now
Chapter 325: Can’t Stop Me Now
Swish!
The blade of air cut towards Noah.
He didn’t think. He simply threw himself to the side, and just in time, as the blade gouged the ground where he’d been, sending dirt spraying into the air.
He didn’t stop, diving behind a nearby tree. He clutched at his shoulder, gritting his teeth through the pain.
There was no doubt about it. His shoulder blade was broken. But he didn’t care. He’d have to keep fighting.
This was his one chance. His one opportunity to save his own life. If he stopped because of the pain of broken bones, then he deserved to die.
The Gale Rhino bellowed, the sound surprisingly close.
Noah peeked from behind the tree, just in time to see a distortion of air flying towards him at an extreme speed.
His eyes widened in shock. The blade of air was too near, and too fast for him to dodge entirely, so he dove forward, cursing under his breath.
The blade of air impacted the tree trunk, a loud sound of exploding wood spreading through the forest.
Splinters sprayed through the air, digging into Noah’s back.
Instead of impacting the floor in his roll, Noah’s wings erupted from his back in mid-air, sending him soaring upwards.
It was the right call, as another blade of air impacted where he would have landed.
Noah flew through the trees, trying to blend into the darkness.
The Gale Rhino grunted as it swiveled its head from one side to the other, looking for Noah.
Noah glided silently, searching for the perfect angle to approach the monster.
The problem here was the blades of air. They were damn near invisible. After all, air was an invisible mixture of gases. If not for his superior vision, he wouldn’t be able to see the blades at all.
The Gale Rhino bellowed again, as if calling out to Noah in challenge. That was when an idea flashed into Noah’s mind.
His eyes narrowed as he glided closer, keeping the trees between him and the rhino.
This was the best chance he had.
The rhino wasn’t staying in one place, constantly moving and looking in all directions. It was intelligent enough to anticipate attacks and react accordingly.
His advantage was that he knew where the rhino was but it didn’t know where he was. So all he needed to do was keep the trees between them, and when he was within range, strike.
Noah glided silently, his every instinct as a predator alive.
And in that moment, his senses expanded.
He could feel every brush of air across his wings. Every change in light and shadows was seen clearly by his eyes. Every sound as the hooves of the rhino scuffed the ground.
In ten seconds, only a tree stood between him and the rhino.
He exhaled, and in that instant, glided out from cover, diving straight at the rhino.
The rhino perked up in an instant, its head snapping towards Noah.
It bellowed, spitting a blade of air at him in defense.
However, it was too late.
With a flap of his wings, Noah generated a burst of speed, pushing himself underneath the blade of air.
And in that instant, he slammed into the rhino’s back.
Before the rhino could react, Noah wrapped his hands around its hide, and activated the one spell he planned on using that night.
Null Stride!
Pain exploded through his body.
Noah couldn’t help but scream as he seized every drop of mana he could bring to bear, the spell formation materializing before him.
Trying to make the spell work felt like someone had poured lava into his veins, and every strand of muscle had a million needles being poked into it at the same time.
But he didn’t stop.
He’d suffered to get to where he was today.
He’d been beaten. Humiliated. Lied against. Transmigrated.
And he wasn’t going to stop now.
The Gale Rhino bucked, trying to get him off its back, but Noah held on for dear life, his scream turning into a roar. His nails dug into the Rhino’s back, refusing to let go.
His scream slowly turned into a roar, the Mana Leech trying to siphon every drop of mana as Noah kept pouring it into the formation.
The spell formation ignited, and Noah’s body disintegrated into dust, the same thing happening to the Gale Rhino.
In an instant, the forest was quiet once more, both fighters gone.
The next second, there was a muffled flash of light, and Noah appeared before the faculty building, still stuck to the back of the rhino.
And just before the rhino could release a loud bellow, Noah’s tail flashed out of his lower back and embedded itself deep into the rhino’s throat, spearing through to its brain.
The surroundings seemed to hold its breath as everything paused.
Then the rhino slumped to the ground in death.
Noah retracted his tail back into himself, allowing the rhino’s blood to begin draining down into the steps of the entrance of the faculty building.
His body trembled in pain and his vision grew incredibly hazy.
He shook his head slowly, groggily gaining awareness.
He’d done it!
He’d somehow managed to cast an A-rank spell, even with the interference of the Mana Leech.
The air around him buzzed in a way he recognized. It felt similar to Null Stride and Pocket Cube.
The monolith was responding!
A laugh bubbled out of his lungs, sending pain spiraling through him, but he ignored it.
He felt like he was on fire, and a simple breath away from dying, but he wouldn’t give up here.
The hardest part was over. Now, it was time for the last step.
His vision was slowly getting clearer, but even right now, he could see more clearly than most.
He looked up to see guards rapidly approaching his location. He didn’t have much time. Maybe a few seconds.
Without waiting, or even climbing down from the back of the rhino.
He simply spread his hands towards the direction he could feel the spatial disturbance, and with an exhale to brace himself against the coming pain, unleashed his mana.
