Chapter 1390 Useless Inheritances

Chapter 1390  Useless Inheritances

Just as Max was about to trigger the detonation of the dark sphere, an unexpected surge of power burst from within. Jonathan shattered free from the black flames, his figure erupting outward as if reborn from fire, and he came flying toward Max with the ferocity of a dark phoenix.

Black flames clung to Jonathan's body, and a pair of phoenix wings formed behind his back, radiating an oppressive aura as he closed the distance and launched a punch straight at Max.

Max's eyes narrowed in surprise. He had never anticipated that Jonathan would break free from the Absolute Reaper so easily, let alone counterattack immediately. Still, his reaction was swift. Drawing upon the Flame Tyrant Inheritance, blazing flames surged from his right hand and condensed into a massive gauntlet of fire as he swung his fist forward to meet Jonathan's incoming strike head on.

A thunderous explosion echoed across the arena as their fists collided. To Max's astonishment, the impact forced him to retreat, his body sliding backward as he took five solid steps before managing to steady himself.

Something felt wrong. As Max stabilized his stance, his brows furrowed in confusion. His flame inheritance techniques felt strangely weak, far weaker than they should have been, and the sensation unsettled him deeply.

His Absolute Reaper sphere had been shattered with ease, and even the punch empowered by the Flame Tyrant Inheritance had been overwhelmed. This could not be mere coincidence, yet he could not immediately grasp the reason behind it.

What Max did not know was that the three inheritances he had obtained back in Obsidian Dragon City were never intended to be dominant techniques in the Divine Realm. They were inheritances designed for the mortal realm, powerful there but fundamentally limited when facing true Divine Realm geniuses.

Lucia had only learned those inheritances to broaden her experience, seeking quantity and understanding rather than absolute strength, and that path had led her to master many techniques meant for lower realms.

Jonathan, on the other hand, was an eighth level Rebirth Realm genius who was undoubtedly using inheritance techniques passed down by the Dark Phoenix Clan, techniques crafted specifically for the Divine Realm.

It was this fundamental difference that caused Max's flame inheritance techniques to feel suppressed and ineffective, giving him the unsettling realization that his usual advantages were no longer enough in this battle.

Up in the air, Lady Virelia watched the exchange unfold with a composed expression, yet her thoughts were clear and sharp. She knew that if Max did not possess other methods beyond what he had already shown, then this battle would inevitably end in his defeat, because the gap between mortal realm techniques and true Divine Realm inheritances was not something that could be bridged through talent alone.

"I have never seen any disciple of the Black Dragon Palace use those inheritance techniques," Jonathan said calmly, a faint smile resting on his lips as he looked at Max with measured confidence. "Either those techniques are inherently weak, or you must have learned them in the mortal worlds."

He paused briefly before continuing, his tone turning slightly condescending. "Techniques from the mortal worlds are only suited for the mortal worlds. Once brought into the Divine Realm, their power becomes insignificant."

"I see," Max replied as he nodded slowly, his expression thoughtful rather than offended. "They are indeed from the mortal worlds." At that moment, everything finally made sense to him. The weakness he had felt earlier was not an illusion or a miscalculation, but a limitation built into the very nature of those inheritance techniques, which had never been designed for the Divine Realm.

Jonathan smiled again, clearly satisfied by Max's admission. "So tell me, do you have any other trump cards, or is this all you can do?" he asked casually. "Because what you have shown so far is far from enough to defeat me."

"You do not need to worry about that," Max replied with a calm smile, his confidence unshaken. "Just come at me."

"As you wish," Jonathan said as his dark phoenix wings, formed entirely of black flames, spread wide and flapped powerfully. In an instant, he shot toward Max at an unimaginable speed, leaving behind streaks of scorching black fire. A black flaming spear formed in his hand, and while the shaft of the weapon burned with deep black flames, its spearhead glowed an ominous red, radiating a terrifying destructive aura.

The moment he reached Max, Jonathan unleashed his strongest attack, determined to end the battle in a single decisive strike. "Dark Phoenix Destroyer!" he roared as he thrust the spear forward with all his strength, the air around it screaming under the pressure of the attack.

Faced with the oncoming blow, Max activated his Three Divine Body to its fullest extent, and white mist began to pour out from his body as his aura surged explosively. Before the red glowing spearhead could even touch him, a sudden wave of extreme cold erupted outward.

Jonathan's entire figure, along with his spear, was instantly frozen solid, transformed into a lifeless ice statue suspended in mid motion.

Shock rippled through the spectators. Clan Head Raven's eyes widened in disbelief as she stared at the frozen scene before her. "First a lightning concept at the fifth level, then a flame concept at the fifth level, and now even an ice concept at the fifth level," she muttered, unable to hide her astonishment. "Just how many concepts has he mastered?"

Max was well aware that with the black phoenix flames protecting Jonathan, the ice could restrain him for only a few seconds at most, yet those few seconds were more than enough.

Without hesitation, he clenched his fist tightly and drew upon the raw physical power of twelve hundred Draconic Essences, while also channeling a portion of the divine energy flowing from the Vein of Origin, the first among the Seven Divine Veins. The power gathered into his arm in a violent surge, and Max threw his punch forward with absolute decisiveness.

A thunderous explosion rang out as the blow landed. Jonathan's frozen figure was blasted away, and as he was sent flying through the air, the ice encasing him shattered into countless fragments, scattering outward under the sheer force of the impact.

"I am not done yet!" Jonathan roared as black flames erupted from his body once more, blooming violently around him and taking on the vague shape of a dark phoenix. The intense heat radiating from his flames caused the temperature around the arena to rise sharply, warping the air itself.

He lowered his gaze toward Max, who stood on the ground below, and spoke with strained confidence. "You are strong for a mortal, but this is—" His words cut off abruptly when his eyes widened in alarm, because the figure of Max had vanished from the arena.

"How could he disappear just like that?" Jonathan thought in shock, and what frightened him even more was the fact that he could no longer sense Max's presence at all, as though he had been erased from existence.

"Take this!" A voice suddenly rang out from behind him high in the air. Jonathan barely had time to turn his head before he saw Max, his entire body wrapped in blazing red lightning, his fist already descending toward his face.

Max had activated both Heaven's Wraith and Extreme Speed from the Storm King's Inheritance at the same time, pushing his speed and striking power to a terrifying level that far exceeded what he had shown earlier.

Another deafening explosion echoed across the arena as the punch struck Jonathan squarely in the face. His body was hurled downward like a falling meteor, crashing violently into the ground below.

The arena floor, constructed from rare and resilient materials, remained intact without a single crack, but Jonathan himself was completely finished. He lay motionless on the ground, pain surging through every part of his body as the overwhelming force of Max's final blow left him utterly unable to rise.
