Chapter 2010: Provocation for a battle?!
Varok’s gaze moved across the young geniuses standing near the Primordial side.
His dark red eyes lingered on Damian, Ervin, Revona, Morgana, Kaiden, Orion, Rosaline, Rakan, Aurelian, and the rest. Most of them had already stepped into the 1st level of the Divine Lord Realm.
Their auras were young, fierce, and unstable in places from their recent Primordial Bloodline awakenings, but their realms were undeniable. They weren’t ordinary geniuses anymore. They’d turned into young monsters carrying the future of the Divine Realm on their shoulders.
Then Varok’s gaze finally landed back on Max. A faint sneer slowly crossed his face.
"I’ll admit, the other young geniuses of your universe aren’t bad," Varok said, his voice carrying across the council domain. "All of them sit at the 1st level of the Divine Lord Realm. At the very least, they look like people your universe might reasonably pin some hope on."
His smile turned colder.
"But him?"
Varok’s eyes fixed on Max with open mockery.
"How can the so-called strongest young genius of your universe only be at the 1st level of the Law Manifestation Realm? Is this some kind of joke?"
The moment those words fell, the atmosphere shifted. Several of the Divine Realm’s leaders frowned. The young geniuses turned cold too.
Orion’s grin disappeared. Damian’s eyes sharpened with faint killing intent. Ervin’s expression turned serious, while Morgana’s lips curled in displeasure. Even Revona, who’d stayed calm through most of the meeting, looked at Varok with a colder gaze.
They all knew Max’s realm sat lower than theirs. But none of them thought he was weak. He had defeated every single one of them at one entirely lower realm than them.
Max had only recently stepped into the Law Manifestation Realm, but you couldn’t judge his foundation by realm alone.
Before Max could say anything, a cold voice came from the War God Palace side.
Saint Reiner, who’d been sitting silently among the senior figures of the War God Palace, finally spoke.
"You talk too much for someone hiding behind a few devils."
Many eyes turned toward him.
Saint Reiner rose slowly from his seat. He was an old man with long silver hair, a weathered face, and eyes that looked like they’d witnessed countless battlefields. His body wasn’t large, but the moment he stood, an ancient and terrifying war intent spread through the council domain.
It wasn’t the sharp, reckless aura of a young warrior. It was the heavy pressure of someone who’d survived endless wars and personally walked through mountains of corpses.
The armor covering his body was dark gold and crimson, marked with countless scars. Every mark carried the weight of a battle that had once shaken the heavens.
In the War God Palace, the title of Saint wasn’t handed to ordinary geniuses or promising juniors. It was a position reserved for beings who stood at the same level as the palace master, or possessed strength that could surpass that seat.
Saint Reiner was one of the oldest and most powerful figures in the War God Palace, a legendary presence who’d once fought beside Garron Aresvale and had even guided him during his early years.
To Max, Saint Reiner was more than just an ancient powerhouse. He was also a teacher to him. Max had personally inherited everything Saint Reiner knew about the Seven Divine Veins, so in a way, Max counted as his student.
Now Saint Reiner looked at Varok with undisguised contempt.
"You’re looking down on a Primordial at the 1st level of the Law Manifestation Realm," Saint Reiner said, his voice calm but heavy, "yet he’s more than enough to handle a few devils at the same realm."
His words instantly drew attention from both sides.
The War God Palace Master, Garron Aresvale, didn’t stop him. Instead, he leaned back with a fierce smile. He clearly understood what Saint Reiner was doing. The old saint wasn’t speaking out of arrogance. He was deliberately pushing the devils to reveal how far they were willing to go.
The War God Palace had never been the kind of force that stayed quiet when insulted. If the devils wanted to test the Divine Realm’s courage, the War God Palace would never be the first to back down.
Varok looked at Saint Reiner. For a moment, he said nothing. Then a cunning light flashed through his eyes. The mockery on his face deepened, but it no longer looked like simple arrogance.
"Oh?"
Varok’s gaze shifted from Saint Reiner to Max and back again.
"So you actually believe this Primordial trash at the 1st level of the Law Manifestation Realm can handle devils at the same realm?"
The word trash made the air turn colder at once.
Max’s expression didn’t change, though he had a feeling something interesting was about to happen.
Saint Reiner’s eyes narrowed. He’d immediately caught Varok’s trap. The devil was trying to twist his words and drag Max into the center of the confrontation. Saint Reiner hadn’t meant to push Max into a reckless fight. He’d only wanted to remind the devils that the Divine Realm wasn’t short on powerful warriors.
But Varok had seized the opening.
Varok smiled. "Then how about this."
His voice grew louder, spreading across the entire council domain.
"I’ll send one devil from my side at the 5th level of the Law Manifestation Realm. Let him fight this Primordial." He looked at Saint Reiner with a provocative smile. "You said he’s more than enough to handle a few Law Manifestation Realm devils. Then surely a single devil at the 5th level won’t be too much, right?"
Saint Reiner’s expression darkened. His gaze shifted to Max. For the first time, a trace of concern crossed his ancient eyes. He knew Max’s strength better than most people here, but he also knew how dangerous it was to fight a devil from a higher realm.
Max had only recently entered the Law Manifestation Realm, and even if his combat power outstripped his cultivation, the gap between the 1st and 5th levels was still huge.
The moment Varok mentioned the 5th level of the Law Manifestation Realm, plenty of people caught his intent. He wasn’t just trying to humiliate Max. He was trying to use Max’s lower realm as a weapon against the Divine Realm’s confidence.
If Max refused, Varok would mock him as an overhyped reputation manufactured by the Primordials and the top forces. If Max accepted and lost, the devils would use the win to crush the momentum of the Divine Realm’s younger generation before the agreement had even fully settled.
The timing was malicious. The method was crude, but it worked.
Varok turned toward the four Primarchs. "What do you say? Since your side seems so confident, surely you wouldn’t object to a simple exchange between juniors."
The entire council domain went silent. The leaders of the top first-rate forces looked toward the four Primarchs.
Arvantos’s expression stayed calm. Eryndor’s molten-star eyes glowed faintly. Lysandra looked at Max as if she were measuring something inside him. Veyrion’s starfield-like gaze stayed unreadable.
For a moment, none of them spoke. Then Arvantos said, "We have no objection."
Varok’s smile widened slightly.
Eryndor added in a deep voice, "A fight between juniors won’t affect the agreement."
Lysandra’s eyes stayed on Max. "Nor will it decide the future of the Divine Realm."
Veyrion spoke quietly. "But if both sides agree, there’s no reason to stop it."
The four Primarchs had all given their answer. They didn’t object.
