Chapter 2013: End of the Meeting!
Chapter 2013: End of the Meeting!
Lysandra’s eyes turned cold. "You used a Primal Treasure to sneak attack a junior during an agreed battle."
Eryndor’s voice carried heavy killing intent. "You truly want war."
Veyrion stared at the Pearl of Abyss. "Careful. The treasure’s still active."
Arvantos looked at Varok, and for the first time since the meeting began, his calm expression showed a trace of terrifying anger.
"Varok," he said slowly. "Explain yourself."
Varok wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth. His expression stayed dark, but his eyes still carried stubborn arrogance.
"That Primordial killed one of my people."
Garron Aresvale laughed coldly. "In a life-and-death battle you agreed to."
Celian Voss’s voice came out quiet. "And you answered by ambushing him with a Primal Treasure."
Saint Reiner’s face had gone colder than anyone else’s. His war intent had grown so dense that the space around him trembled. If not for the four Primarchs standing between both sides and the Pearl of Abyss still pulsing in Varok’s hand, he would have already crossed the battlefield.
"That was my student," Saint Reiner said. His voice came out low, but everyone heard it. "If he dies because of your sneak attack, no agreement will save you."
Varok’s eyes flickered. The pressure coming from all sides was terrifying. Even with the Pearl of Abyss, he knew he couldn’t act recklessly again. He’d already suffered backlash from one silent strike.
If he forced the pearl to erupt while surrounded by the four Primarchs and the strongest forces of the Divine Realm, the outcome might slip out of his control.
The pearl could protect him. It could threaten them. But it could also consume him if he tried to push power beyond what his realm could handle.
For the first time, Varok felt the danger of standing in another universe.
Then space trembled softly above the battlefield. A silver ripple opened. Max stepped out of it.
His expression stayed calm, but his eyes had gone much colder than before. The Dimension of Time had saved him, but the fact remained that he’d nearly been killed.
If his Dimensional Keeper Legacy had warned him even a fraction later, if his reaction had been slower, if the entrance to the Dimension of Time had failed to open in time, that abyssal spike would have gone straight through his head.
Max looked at the Pearl of Abyss in Varok’s hand. Then he looked at Varok.
"One day I’ll return that a hundredfold."
Varok didn’t answer him. For a few breaths, he just stared. Seeing Max standing there alive and unharmed after dodging the Pearl of Abyss made Varok feel even worse than before.
Raghor had been killed in front of everyone, his sneak attack had failed, and the Primordial he wanted erased had returned with the same calm expression, as if even a Primal Treasure hadn’t been enough to truly scare him.
That silence stung worse than any insult. Varok’s hatred for Max climbed to a whole new level. Before this, Max had been a troublesome genius who might become an obstacle down the road. Now, in Varok’s eyes, he’d become someone who had to die.
A young Primordial with that kind of talent, that kind of reaction speed, that kind of strange escape method, and that kind of fearless attitude couldn’t be allowed to grow freely.
If Max survived a few more centuries, he might become one of the most dangerous enemies the Devil Race would ever face inside this universe.
But Varok couldn’t make another move now. The four Primarchs were already watching him with cold eyes. The leaders of the top first-rate forces had locked their auras onto him too.
Saint Reiner’s killing intent felt especially terrifying, and Varok could tell the old saint of the War God Palace was only waiting for one excuse to act.
Even with the Pearl of Abyss in his possession, Varok knew he couldn’t keep pushing the situation. He’d already suffered backlash from using the treasure once, and if he forced it again surrounded by this many peak experts, the outcome might not stay within his control.
The Pearl of Abyss was powerful. But it wasn’t something his current cultivation could use without a cost.
Varok slowly wiped the dark blood from the corner of his mouth. His expression settled back into calm, but that calm only made the hatred hiding beneath it feel more dangerous. He looked away from Max and turned to the four Primarchs.
"We have our agreement," Varok said coldly. "Now it’s time for us to leave."
The four primarchs became silent hearing him. They knew that if the devils wanted to leave they couldn’t stop them since they possessed the Pearl of Abyss. And so they didn’t even try to stop them.
Arvantos looked at him without any warmth. "Remember the terms."
Primarch Eryndor’s voice followed like a heavy mountain pressing down from the heavens. "If your devils break them, there will be no second negotiation."
Lysandra’s silver-gold eyes stayed fixed on the Pearl of Abyss. "And if you use that treasure carelessly inside our universe again, don’t assume your father’s name will protect you."
Veyrion said nothing, but the space around the devils tightened faintly, as if reminding them their retreat was being allowed, not overlooked.
Varok’s fingers curled around the Pearl of Abyss. A dark, radiant light flashed from the pearl. For an instant, the sky above the grand council domain seemed to sink into a bottomless darkness. The devils behind Varok got swallowed by that abyssal glow one after another, their figures twisting like shadows reflected on deep water.
Varok’s gaze stayed on Max until the very last moment. The hatred in his eyes was unmistakable.
Max looked back at him calmly. Neither of them said anything.
Then the abyssal light surged. A moment later, Varok and the remaining devils vanished from the council domain.
The black mist in the sky slowly faded. The pressure left behind by the Pearl of Abyss lingered for a few breaths before the primordial light of the ancestral domain washed it away.
No one moved right away. The agreement had been made. The devils had retreated.
But everyone present understood this wasn’t the end of the conflict.
It was only the beginning.
