Chapter 4719 Exploring The Ruins
Chapter 4719 Exploring The Ruins
Davis panned his gaze, wondering if he had missed anything.
"Let's take a look around." He said and headed into the village.
Fairy Thunderblaze silently followed, her eyes tracing the cracked stone path that once might've been the heart of the settlement. The air here was thick with ghostly yin and blood energy.
Dilapidated houses leaned on each other, their wooden beams half-eaten by time and corrosion, and some outright destroyed, with blood tracks all over the place. Fragments of foreign spirit sigils shimmered faintly on broken doorframes, denoting their powerful existence once. Some appeared as circles of faded light, others as fractured talismans that no longer held power.
'This must be a human-spirit settlement…'
Both of them thought, but at the same time, they could tell that many subsequent slaughters also happened here. From that small mountain, they had rather traversed straight along the northern path. Perhaps this was the place that the blood carnage Calamity lured the spirit tribe a hundred and twenty years ago and slaughtered them all.
Davis stopped beside a collapsed well. He knelt, brushing away a thin layer of ash from its rim. It was yin ghost powder, energy that manifested into soil. The stones were blackened, yet beneath the char and dust, faint spirit sigils were carved in concentric patterns.
'A formation meant to purify spirit water…' Davis cleared his hand and stood up, determining this source of water was contaminated by blood poison once. The area outside was infected by thick ghostly yin energy, which meant…
He pushed the rubble aside, and before he could look over, a thick corpse stench emerged, making Davis and Fairy Thunderblaze frown.
Davis looked over into the well and saw the scene of multiple corpses stacked over a crimson puddle at the bottom of the well. However, his pupils dilated as he saw that these corpses weren't stacked but fused together. They looked like an abomination, making Fairy Thunderblaze want to throw a wisp of scarlet divine flame to incinerate them.
"Those corpse cultivators should've been searching for corpses to make powerful corpse puppets. Think that might do for them?" Davis chuckled.
Fairy Thunderblaze was unamused. She didn't have the hobby of taking an interest in abominations like this. The fusion of tens of bodies looked like blasphemy to the human race. Arms and legs jutted out from ridiculous spaces inside that abomination as though it could roll around with innumerable hands and legs just remaining there for support.
Suddenly, she narrowed her eyes as she felt a ripple from it.
Multiple pairs of eyes stretched open from the bloody ball of human abomination.
"Ehgghg~" A shrill, monstrous voice echoed as their maws opened, all of them dripping with blood. Abruptly, the abomination that seemed to be stuck gained strength as it gripped the walls and started climbing up.
*Fsss~*
Fairy Thunderblaze didn't even hesitate. Pointing her finger above, she conjured a flaming scarlet lotus at her fingertip. Its divine and destructive nature rumbled elegantly, creating scarlet plumes of fire around it as she threw it down the well.
*Fshhh!~*
Scarlet flames burst out of the well along with a monstrous shriek that reverberated around the area.
"Behhhhhhh!!!"
A blood-curdling scream continued to echo for a few seconds until it died down.
Davis and Fairy Thunderblaze wouldn't find it difficult to kill, but since it moved upon noticing them, their gazes exchanged the question of whether the blood carnage Calamity had found them out.
"Did ghostly yin energy and blood energy fuse those mangled corpses over time, or is it a monstrosity created by the Realm Calamity?" Fairy Thunderblaze asked.
"The latter…"Davis barely looked at it with Karmic Sight and saw innumerable karmic threads extending out. He was horrified to see so many exist.
"Let's leave quick!"
He patted her shoulder and shot away.
Fairy Thunderblaze also followed him. After they left, the bloody giant with a blood mass for a lower body and tentacles on its upper body returned. It extended its arms, appearing like it was going to catch the interlopers. However, it wasn't the only one.
A second bloody giant appeared from the inner region. A third, a fourth. A fifth- sixth… tenth and many more.
They instantly swarmed the village, looking around for the interlopers.
Then they all stopped and revealed a pure, malevolent grin as they turned to look in the direction Davis and Fairy Thunderblaze escaped.
*Boom!~*
Davis blasted apart a similarly mangled corpse abomination with his fist when it suddenly intercepted them from a blind spot. It exploded into a blood mist, and he waved his hand and used a veil of death energy to encompass the blood mist. Each blood drop instantly had its life force extinguished by Davis since he knew it could most likely reform from the accounts of the spirits outside.
The two of them didn't stop, continuing to make their way out.
"Over here." Abruptly, a cold, dejected voice echoed, catching the two of their attention.
They turned to look toward their side and caught sight of a female wraith in black and white robes. She wore a purple veiled hat, covering her facial features, and her figure was nearly transparent if it were a soul body. The aura around her indicated that she was a Level Nine Immortal Emperor with a dense ghost energy fluctuation that let Davis know she was quite powerful.
He turned to glance at Fairy Thunderblaze, and she gestured that they should go to her. Without waiting for him, she turned around and shot towards the female wraith.
Davis also followed suit.
As they widened the distance from their previous encounter, they could see tens of bloody giant silhouettes weaving through the ghostly yin fog, rendering them speechless. One of the giant bloody silhouettes made its way towards them, causing Davis and Fairy Thunderblaze to stiffen and nearly react.
"Stop. Don't do anything…" The same cold and dejected voice echoed in a somber tone.
Her ghost aura reverberated, and she encompassed them with a blanket of thick ghost yin energy.
As she did that, the bloody giant became clearer in their view.
It finally appeared, looking menacingly as it reached out its hand to grab something always. However, it ignored them and continued to race towards the edge.
Davis and Fairy Thunderblaze watched it leave. If they had continued onwards, it was difficult to tell if they could make it outside before they got caught in this swarm, just by the speed alone. However, Davis had another perspective. He could see karmic threads of the blood carnage Calamity already appearing at the edge.
This was a death trap. No one can escape. This Realm Calamity actually sealed all points of exit with sheer numbers.
Still, he was confident he could force through, but this woman- this wraith, he turned to look at her.
"They mostly ignore ghosts…" said the female wraith.
"Why did you save us?" Fairy Thunderblaze asked with raised brows.
"Save you? You two are precious bait."
The female wraith coldly said and turned around, "Follow me."
Davis and Fairy Thunderblaze were both amused but also confused as they looked at each other. Did she not see the prowess they displayed while fleeing?
Regardless, they followed her, still encompassed by the thick ghostly aura. Although it was uncomfortable, they didn't feel it was unbearable. Clearly, this wraith was not stronger than them.
"Are you from the Silent Wraith Hall?" Davis asked.
