Chapter 1012: a mysterious man

Yohan took his seat at the empty table, and Lucine joined him. However, the moment they sat, a collective murmur rippled through the inn. Every person turned their gaze toward them, their expressions petrified as if they were staring death in the face.

Lucine sensed the sudden atmospheric shift, but to his surprise, Yohan remained completely unbothered. He was already engrossed in the menu, though after scanning the contents, he let out a long, slightly defeated sigh. There were numerous varieties of liquor available, but honestly, he had never heard of these names before. He was skeptical about ordering something unpleasant that might ruin his rare good mood.

After a moment of deliberation, he called out to a waitress standing a few meters away, yohan wanted to ask her to bring the best liquor that this inn has to offer along with side dishes, the woman, already terrified, froze instantly the moment she realized Yohan’s attention was fixed on her.

"What is wrong with this woman?" Lucine exclaimed, his voice tinged with rage. He was incensed that she was ignoring Yohan’s call, standing there like a fool without moving a limb. The other employees were behaving just as strangely; none dared to approach the table to take an order. Meanwhile, the other people continued to whisper urgently, their eyes locked onto that specific table.

’Don’t tell me these people know who I am. That might be why she’s acting like this,’ Yohan thought. He wondered if coming here had been a mistake. He considered that he should have perhaps traveled further from River Shore City; with his frightening speed, reaching a place hundreds of miles away in a couple of minutes would have been a piece of cake.

"These bastards... I should teach them a lesson..." Lucine growled, but Yohan signaled him to stop. He wasn’t there to cause trouble; he just wanted to drink to his heart’s content. Yohan felt peaceful today, and he was in no mood to kill anyone—especially not these terrified women.

Suddenly, an old man came running toward the table. He looked at Yohan with a face full of dread, his body soaked in a cold sweat. His heart was beating so violently it sounded as if he had just finished a marathon.

"Young master, you must leave this table while you still can... You have done something you shouldn’t have done in the first place!" he stammered, urging Yohan to go. Yohan remained calm and composed despite the old man’s frantic warnings.

"Don’t tell me this table is already occupied?" Yohan asked, his expression one of pure innocence. Lucine felt a chill run down his spine at that look. He wondered who in their right mind would dare defy Yohan, even if he had made a mistake. This man was a monster, and there was no one in the region who didn’t know his name; he was already revered and feared after what he had done to the Great Clans.

"No, that’s not it. This table always remains vacant. No one is allowed to sit here except that man!" the owner responded, inwardly cursing his employees for being so reckless as to let Yohan sit down unchallenged.

"That man, you say..." Yohan whispered.

"If you don’t want to lose your life, please leave this place immediately. Leave the Northern Region entirely! By your attire, I can tell you are of noble blood—likely a foreigner. I want no bloodshed inside my inn, so please, just leave..." the old man pleaded, his face a mask of terror. Lucine was reaching his breaking point, listening to this old man ramble. He wanted to beat the life out of anyone who dared speak this way to a person standing at the pinnacle of power—a terrifying force who could single-handedly trample any clan.

He glanced at Yohan, remembering he wasn’t allowed to act without permission. Yohan’s expression hadn’t changed; he was still holding Lucine back.

"You are the owner of this inn, right?" Yohan asked, his voice steady and completely unaffected by the owner’s panic.

"Yes, I am the owner. Now please, kindly leave!" the old man cried. Had it been anyone else, the owner might have tried to force them out himself, but Yohan looked like a high-ranking noble or cultivator—someone a man in a run-down city like this couldn’t afford to offend.

"Well, Mr. Owner, bring me the best alcohol in your inn. Also, bring some side dishes. I am starving."

"..."

The entire inn fell into a heavy, suffocating silence. Yohan had everyone’s undivided attention, and the people watched the drama unfold with bated breath. The old man could only gawk in disbelief.

"Young master..." the old man began, attempting to confront him again, but Yohan cut him off mid-sentence.

"You don’t need to worry about my well-being, old man. The only thing you should worry about is serving me good liquor and food to my liking!" Yohan said. His tone had shifted sharply. Lucine’s heart thumped as he sensed something sinister—a flash of frightening killing intent that lasted only a second before vanishing. Only someone of Lucine’s high cultivation could have detected it. He swallowed nervously.

The old man stood in a dilemma, looking at Yohan with pity while cursing him for being so difficult. He turned to fetch the liquor just to be rid of the youth, but before he could take a single step, his entire body froze. A voice echoed from the entrance of the inn. The old man’s face turned deathly pale, and it seemed as if his soul had left his body. He slowly turned his head toward the sound. There, standing at the doorway, was a man flanked by several beauties. At that moment, one by one, the people inside the inn began to stand.

"He is here... that monster is here. I am dead," the old man muttered, collapsing to his knees with a look of utter hopelessness.

Following the old man’s lead, every person in the inn dropped to their knees, not daring to look in the direction of the man who had just arrived.
