"Stop jesting around; we recently met... moreover, I don’t have any plans of getting involved with you!" Yohan said as he pushed Elaine away from him, controlling himself from getting swayed by her beauty. Every single time she got close to him, he felt vulnerable around her; he hated that feeling.
"How cold... I wonder how you became so popular among ladies?" Elaine gave a look to Yohan; seeing that look, Yohan frowned.
"How long have you been keeping an eye on me? Don’t tell me those people who were tailing me inside the Nichole clan territory were your doing?" Yohan looked at her with a suspicious gaze.
Elaine simply smiled and shook her head. "Well, as one of the Overseers, I have my own ways to get information. I am not someone who relies on cheap tactics; you will understand as you come to know me," she said while wearing a gentle smile on her face.
Yohan took a long sigh hearing her. "Knowing you is the last thing I want at this very moment. You see, my hands are already full; I am fighting the Northern Royal Family and somehow got involved with the Imperial Family!" Yohan responded with a depressed look on his face; seeing him like that, Elaine burst into laughter.
"You are an ambitious man, aren’t you? So it’s normal you will attract some unwanted attention!" she said. Yohan turned silent, and a moment later, he broke his silence as he had something to ask her.
"You and your organization are not going to get in my way, right?" he exclaimed while maintaining his gaze on her. Elaine turned silent as she heard him; she understood why he asked her.
"We Overseers don’t get involved in worldly affairs; it’s in human nature to wage war against each other. Over the years, I have seen countless wars, the rise and fall of kingdoms; so rest assured, we will not get in your way," she explained. Hearing her, Yohan inwardly heaved a sigh of relief, and the next moment, his body started ascending into the sky as he intended to leave the place and return to his clan.
"I am heading home. If you want to follow me, then you better behave in front of my family," Yohan added, as he decided to bring this woman to his clan; after all, he had no other choice. Moreover, she seemed like a good person without any malice; bringing her to his clan might be a good idea, as he might rope her into fighting by his side. Apart from that, he also told her to stick with the story of her being the victim of the fake Yohan.
"I understand; I will be in your care for the time being," she whispered as she agreed to fulfill Yohan’s demand.
Yohan nodded, and then the next moment, he started flying in the direction of River Shore City. Elaine started flying by his side, while wearing an excited look on her face.
While moving in the direction of River Shore City, Elaine was looking at him now and then, stealing gazes from him.
"Can I ask you something?" She moved close to him, flying side by side.
"What?" Yohan responded in an annoyed manner.
"By any chance, are you interested in becoming one of the Overseers?" she said while closely looking at Yohan’s face.
"I am not interested," he immediately refused, taking her by surprise; she was not expecting that.
"Don’t you understand what I am offering you? I think you don’t know how much power the Overseers hold. The entire group consists of twelve seats who are ruled by twelve strong leaders and the armies of cultivators who follow the will of their leaders. With your talent, you might become someone great inside the circle—maybe reach the top," she said while wearing a serious look on her face.
"What’s the point?" Yohan finally looked at her with a different gaze, taking her by surprise.
"What do you mean by that?" she asked.
"Thanks, but no thanks... What’s the point of joining an organization where you simply hide inside the shadows and keep tabs on the world order, or whatever that bullshit is? I don’t do things that way.
"Moreover, I have dreams... dreams that I must achieve no matter what. Tying myself to an organization is something I can’t afford; it would only hinder the progress," Yohan exclaimed while having a serious look on his face. He hated organizations that work in the dark; no matter how mighty or great they were, Yohan didn’t like them one bit.
’The hell with those self-proclaimed, delusional bastards who think they control things from the shadows. Once I reach the next major realm, I’ll make sure to bring every one of them to their knees,’ Yohan inwardly thought and cursed this organization that was keeping an eye on him; he felt powerless, and that was the thing he hated most in his life.
"I see... I am sorry. I shouldn’t have asked you that without considering how you feel. You are still young and haven’t lived your life; I shouldn’t have tried to rope you into the Overseer circle," she said while wearing a bittersweet smile on her face. She looked disappointed as Yohan refused her offer.
"But the deal is still on. In the future, if you decide to become one of us, we are going to welcome you with open arms," she added, shrugging off the disappointment after getting rejected by Yohan.
"Yeah, whatever..." Yohan said, and with those words, he looked ahead. River Shore City was right ahead; he then shifted his gaze and looked at Elaine, who was looking in the direction of the city, which was dazzling under the night sky.
"So this is your home, huh..." she whispered while wearing a longing look on her beautiful face.
Yohan noticed that look on her face, but nevertheless, he didn’t ask the reason behind it. It’s rare to see an individual of her caliber behave in such a manner, despite having the power to trample cities with their frightening strength.
She was completely different from the people whom he had met all those years after coming to this place; despite being a powerhouse, she was the most simple and down-to-earth woman he had ever met.
’Maybe this is her character. Elaine De Noir, who in the world are you, and why do you remind me of that woman?’ Yohan inwardly wondered, thinking about a certain someone.
