Chapter 1685 1685: Dark Knight (Part 1)
Even as a group of four, Loargh, Vyora, Sarka, and Adam could barely keep up with the Dark Knight's movements.
He had found a way to counter the lightning-fast Loargh, defend against Vyora's flame, and effortlessly withstand Sarka's direct strike.
Still, Sarka's attack proved effective. The Dark Knight's grip weakened for just a moment, but that was enough for Loargh to retreat to a safe distance.
But he wasn't the only one who needed to run.
"Sarka! Run!" he shouted from the other side of the field.
She looked up with amusement at the approaching meteorite. Last time, that meteorite had been meant for her and Adam, but now she and Vyora were on the same side, for now.
"Hah, decided to play your trump card right away? Alright, good luck with that, old man!" Sarka mockingly called out to the Dark Knight before jumping back.
She stopped next to Adam.
"Are you okay?" Sarka asked with a hint of concern, since Adam was the only one the Dark Knight had hit directly.
Adam nodded, getting up from the ground.
"Yeah, but I feel like I got hit by a fucking train." He winced as he moved his arm. It was still trembling slightly from the impact. "Don't let him catch you. If your fists collide, it won't be his bone that breaks, it'll be yours."
Normally, Sarka would have arrogantly denied it, but not now. She herself had struck the Dark Knight's sword, and despite the result, she had expected much more.
'He just blocked my attack, and my fire didn't do anything to him. What would have happened if, instead of blocking, he'd decided to make a slash?'
Either way, all attention was now focused on the meteorite.
The sword field had one drawback for the Dark Knight and the Frenzied Shard: it was an arena, a closed area from which there was no escape for either of them.
The Dark Knight couldn't leave the sword field to avoid the attack, and moving closer to the wall wasn't an option either. He had to protect the Frenzied Shard from destruction.
"Hmm… That's a dangerous power, young lady." The Dark Knight rasped, slowly drawing his sword. "Unfortunately for you, I can't let that meteorite fall. In that case, nothing but ashes will remain of this beautiful field."
Vyora couldn't believe what she was hearing.
'Agh? Is he going to stop my meteorite? I put so much power into it!'
Tremble. Tremble. Tremble.
The Dark Knight's sword trembled as figures began to appear amidst the darkness hanging over the sword field.
Slash!
The Dark Knight swung his sword, cutting only through the air, but in this case, his sword was not a weapon, but a tool with which he controlled the real weapon.
The giant shadow sword appeared amidst the darkness. In size, it was similar to the swords forming the wall.
In the next moment, the shadow sword headed toward the meteorite, slicing the massive object in two.
Vyora's jaw was ready to drop to the ground, but the Dark Knight wasn't finished yet.
Slash! Slash! Slash!
Every time he swung his sword, leaving dark trails behind, another shadow sword appeared from above, making another cut on the meteorite.
Thus, by his fourth slash, the four shadow swords simultaneously sliced through the meteorite. By this point, the massive, flaming rock had already been split into more than a dozen pieces.
Adam frowned. 'I see. So that's what I noticed in the darkness earlier, right? He braced himself. He knew that sooner or later someone would want to get their hands on that Frenzied Shard, so he needed a way to turn this place into a cage with no way out.'
However, the Dark Knight wasn't about to stop there. He kept swinging his sword until the giant meteorite had turned into tiny pebbles that soon hit the ground.
Tap. Tap. Tap.
The pebbles were so small that by the time they fell onto the dry grass, they had already lost all their flame and heat. They were almost cold, and not even a single spark that could have started a fire appeared.
While Vyora was in shock, trying to comprehend that this was reality, Adam continued to analyze the darkness hanging over them.
'Is it his ability or his energy? Either way, it seems he can't use it to attack us. That's good. Those swords look too dangerous.'
Slowly, the Dark Knight lowered his sword to the ground and turned to Vyora.
"What now? You and this young man, you're both from the dome pillar, aren't you?"
Vyora bit her lip until it almost bled. "How did you figure that out?"
"It's simple. You still can't believe that the attack you've practiced so many times turned out to be useless. Still, I can see how much effort you put into that meteorite. Otherwise, it would have taken me a few fewer swings of my sword."
Loargh leaned forward as his aura stabilized. He realized they could no longer hope to defeat the Dark Knight with just their basic attacks. They had to use something more than that.
"Hey!"
Suddenly, Adam's voice rang out from the side.
The Dark Knight turned around, only to see the massive scissors hovering in the air in front of Adam.
"Try cutting that, you bastard."
At the same moment, the scissors snapped shut as the imaginary blade swept across the field.
The cleave split the ground, but the Dark Knight didn't rush to step aside. In fact, for the first time in the fight, the thought crossed his mind, but he simply couldn't do it, the Frenzied Shard was right behind him.
He had to fulfill the terms of his contract and protect the Frenzied Shard at all costs, or he would lose everything.
'The Phantoms… They always cause the most trouble, especially the young ones. But that's not enough!'
Stomp!
The Dark Knight stomped his foot and made a wide horizontal swing with his sword, meeting the imaginary blade with his weapon.
Tremble. Tremble. Tremble.
Ripples spread through the air as a cascade of sparks flew past the Dark Knight. His hand trembled, but his sword held back the immense power before him.
Adam's gaze darkened as he watched the Dark Knight stop his powerful attack.
'I expected this, but… what can you do about it?' he thought as two more imaginary blades appeared in his hands.
