Chapter 708: You Get What You Want, And I Get What I Want

Back at the inn, Professor Arienna called out everyone who would be participating in the musical tournaments that would be held tomorrow.

Since Alex was part of the team, he was there as well, looking like a very important person.

The other candidates who would be participating in the different fields like the choir and instrumental competition made up the bulk of the performers that would be representing the academy.

They had all been practicing very hard for the past month, having improved their skills greatly since then.

All of them had also heard Astrea, Lapiz, and Cassian’s singing practices, so they knew that they were very talented singers as well.

As for Alex… Professor Arienna referred to him as their secret weapon!

As to why he was their secret weapon? Obviously, it was a secret!

Truth be told, many were dying to hear what Alex’s singing voice was like. Though, if only they knew that they would experience a different kind of “dying” while listening to his singing, they would all probably give Professor Rianna a kiss because she had saved them from such a tragic fate.

“Good work everyone!” Alex said with a smile. “All of you worked hard! Let’s win tomorrow’s singing competition!”

“”Yes!””

Since their Singing King was encouraging them, they felt that their efforts were being recognized.

Professor Arienna allowed Alex to be in the spotlight for a bit before clapping her hands to get everyone’s attention.

“While winning is important, keep in mind that winning isn’t everything,” Professor Arienna said in a serious tone. “I want all of you to have fun. So please, enjoy this experience.”

“But Professor, I heard that if we win, you’re going to get a raise!” one of the students said while raising their hands. “So, should we just have fun, or should we win as well?”

“Win!” Professor Arienna did a complete 180 after the secret of a pay raise was exposed. “You brats better win, or else!”

Cheers and laughter echoed inside the conference room after that.

“If the majority of those that’ll be competing in the tournaments win, I will make sure to hold a victory party once we return to the academy!” Professor Arienna promised. “All of you will get merit points on top of that, and you don’t need to take the mid-term exams this year!”

“””Whoa!”””

More cheers erupted as everyone became extremely motivated after hearing the Professor’s declaration.

Even Alex was pleasantly surprised by this news. In fact, since he had been traveling a lot as of late, he was a little worried that he might not perform well in the written exams that would be held a month after the competition ended.

“Sleep early tonight, and don’t go out to have fun in the city,” Professor Arienna warned them. “If any of you break this rule, I’ll make you regret it. Do I make myself clear?”

“””Yes, Professor!”””

“Alright! Everyone, dismissed!”

Alex wasn’t in a hurry to leave, so he moved to the side and allowed everyone to leave the room first.

Perhaps seeing his action, Astrea also didn’t leave right away. Since his sister wasn’t leaving, Cassian stayed behind as well.

Lapiz, on the other hand, was the last one to leave. Though, she turned around a few times to glance at Alex before finally leaving the room.

“Are you nervous for tomorrow’s performance?” Astrea asked.

“A little,” Alex replied.

“Just a little?” Astrea asked. “I’m a little envious of your composure. I am actually very nervous, you know?”

Alex smiled faintly. “Don’t worry, Astrea. The moment the song starts playing, you will get into your zone. In that place, you are in full control. No one will be able to disturb you, so sing with all of your heart.”

Cassian was very impressed with Alex’s sweet talk. It was very obvious that he wasn’t trying to hit on his sister at all. In fact, he thought that Alex would be all clingy today while trying to ask her to have a one-on-one practice session together.

That was something Cassian wouldn’t allow to happen no matter what!

Fortunately, Alex didn’t seem to have any plans on doing that.

“I’ll head back to my room to rest,” Alex said. “See you tomorrow, Astrea.”

“See you tomorrow, Alex,” Astrea replied with a smile.

The young man then returned to his room because he truly wanted to rest a little early. Yesterday’s session with Evangeline and Lotte had drained him a bit, so he planned to recover for the time being.

In order to ensure that he wouldn’t be disturbed by anyone, Lavinia and Latifa stayed with him as his bodyguards.

Meanwhile, somewhere else in the city…

“It’s done…” Professor Matilda looked at her freshly brewed potion.

Latifa’s mother, Lady Evarisse, looked at the purple potion in the Professor’s hand and smiled faintly.

“I gathered the best ingredients for that potion,” Lady Evarisse stated. “Are you sure that it will work?”

“Of course it will,” Professor Matilda replied with a smile. “Although I feel a little guilty about doing this to that young man, Faelarun Academy must win the Singing King competition.”

“You’re lucky that we share the same interests,” Lady Evarisse replied. “Still, the potion’s effect will only last for 24 hours, right?”

“Right.” Professor Matilda nodded. “There will be no lasting side effects. This Potion of Reverse Voice will make even those who have angelic voices sing as if they were a goose letting out their last honk. It completely reverses one’s singing aptitude! The higher their singing talent, the greater their fall!”

“Perfect!” Lady Evarisse giggled. “So, does this mean that those who are tone deaf will sing like they were born to sing after drinking this potion?”

“Yes,” Professor Matilda answered. “That young man, Alex, is the greatest threat to our academy’s victory. We need to eliminate him to ensure our win in the Singing King competition and the Battle Choir.”

“You get what you want, and I get what I want.” Lady Evarisse smirked. “It’s a win-win for the both of us.”

“There is one problem, though. How do we make him drink this potion?” Professor Matilda frowned. “I can’t possibly head to the waiting room of Frieden Academy. That will only cause suspicion.”

“Oh, you don’t have to worry about that.” Lady Evarisse snapped his fingers as she transformed into Latifa. “I will handle that part.”

The two ladies then shared an evil smile with each other.

This was a short-term alliance, but an alliance nevertheless.

Lady Evarisse thought that Alex had purposely used a horrible singing voice to knock her out during their meeting at the Mystral Weave Forest.

To her, that was how massive his singing talent was, so she concocted a plan. Since Alex was confident in his singing voice, she would embarrass him in front of everyone that would gather to watch him perform.

The Celestial Fox believed that after suffering such embarrassment and humiliation, Alex wouldn’t be able to show his face in the academy ever again.

Both ladies were very assured of their victory.

Now, the only thing they needed to do was make Alex drink the potion, and the rest would become history.
