Chapter 720: The Secret Behind Alex’s Singing Voice

Two days later, the Inter-Academy Tournament finally came to an end.

Now that all festivities were over, the Kingdom of Faelarun decided to host a grand ball the next day. It shall serve as their parting gift to everyone who showcased their talents in their respective fields.

Unsurprisingly, Professor Arienna personally visited Alex before then, telling him that he was banned from singing anything during the party.

“The Headmaster said that if you even try humming a tune, he will toss you back to Frieden Academy on the spot,” Professor Arienna said with a smile. “So Alex, if you really want to go home that badly, then go on and entertain us during the party, okay?’

“Fine,” Alex replied. “I won’t sing anything even if someone begs me to!”

“Good.” Professor Arienna nodded. “Good boy. I will definitely keep my end of the promise and increase the funding of your club. In fact, the Headmaster has already approved of it since your members also helped the First Years and Second Years in the fighting division train for the competition.”

“Hey, since you’re already thanking them, how about some thanks in the form of money as well?” Alex smiled. “Merit points are good, but gold coins are the universal currency.”

“Fine.” Professor Arienna had already expected the young man to try squeezing as much as he could out of her, so she came prepared. “They’ll receive fifty gold coins each. Happy?”

“Good.” Alex reached out for a handshake. “We have a deal.”

“Deal.” Professor Arienna accepted Alex’s hand and shook it twice. “Just have fun at the party tomorrow. It’s the perfect opportunity to form connections with the students from Faelarun and Solara Academy.”

Alex nodded in understanding. However, the only connections he wanted to form were with Prince Kaelen of Faelarun and Lady Celestria of the Kingdom of Solara.

After the professor left, someone knocked on the door of Alex’s room once more. He thought that Professor Arienna might have forgotten something, so he immediately opened the door.

“Did you forget anything, Professor?” Alex asked the moment he opened it. “Or did you just miss me…”

The young man paused. The one standing in front of him wasn’t the professor, but Lapiz.

The elven princess’s face turned beet red because when Alex opened the door, the young man actually leaned on the door frame and struck the hottest pose he could think of.

Alex had done that to tease Professor Arienna. He never expected that the person waiting on the other side of the door would be the shy elven princess, who had Dim Dim perched on top of her head.

“I-I came here to return Dim Dim,” Lapiz stuttered.

“Oh. Thank you, Lapiz.” Alex hurriedly corrected his pose and stood up properly.

“Dim!” Dim Dim smirked before jumping on top of Alex’s head. The little bun stayed with Lapiz until lunchtime and even took a bath with her.

It even listened to some of her concerns, as well as answered many questions about Alex.

The elven princess seemed to have many questions about Alex, all of which Dim Dim was more than happy to answer.

Lapiz was Astrea’s substitute in the Singing Queen competition if Astrea hadn’t been able to perform.

She asked Dim Dim if Alex would have done the same thing he did for Astrea if Lapiz were in her place.

The little bun didn’t hesitate to tell Lapiz that Alex would have done the same thing without any hesitation because, for him, the elven lady was someone he cared for as well.

It was then that Lapiz imagined taking Astrea’s place, having Alex hold her so tenderly while escorting her to the stage.

She could tell in all honesty that if she were in Astrea’s position, she would be too embarrassed to sing and might have even lost her nerves on stage.

“Thank you for taking care of Dim Dim,” Alex said. “I hope it didn’t do anything impolite during its stay.”

“Oh no. Dim Dim is very well-behaved and very kind,” Lapiz replied. “It even encouraged me to believe in myself more.”

“Ahem!” Dim Dim proudly raised its body at those words.

After hearing what the little bun had done, Alex’s face softened a bit.

“You should really believe in yourself more, Lapiz,” Alex said. “You are not your sister. You are you. Also, even if you compare any other ladies in the academy to your sister, none of them would come close to her. She’s Miss Perfect, after all.”

“And yet, you still prefer me over someone like her,” Lapiz muttered, her cheeks turning a shade redder.

“Um? Did you say something?” Alex asked.

The young lady’s words were too soft and too low for her to hear properly.

“N-Nothing!” Lapiz replied. “I’ll see you later, Alex, Dim Dim. Bye bye!”

“Bye bye!” Dim Dim waved its little hand.

“Bye. See you later, Lapiz.” Alex waved and smiled at the young lady.

She then turned around to walk away, but after taking ten steps, she looked back to check if Alex was still looking at her.

To her surprise, he was indeed looking at her and didn’t return to his room right away.

Feeling her cheeks burning, Lapiz finally increased her pace until she made a right turn in the hallway.

She then leaned on the wall and pressed her hand over her chest, doing her best to calm her wildly beating heart.

Truth be told, while everyone else, except Lavinia, had been writhing after hearing Alex’s singing voice, Lapiz had been perfectly fine.

Sure, his singing was terrible. On that point, she completely agreed. Though unlike the others, she had sensed something hidden beneath that awful voice.

Alex’s singing contained a power that bordered on the divine. Because of that, ordinary mortals were unable to truly comprehend it.

It was like drinking water.

In the right amount, it sustained life and allowed the body to function normally.

But in excess, it could become deadly.

That was what Alex’s singing was like.

The moment people heard it, they were exposed to something far beyond what they could process.

Their minds, bodies, and emotions simply couldn’t withstand the burden, causing all their senses to spiral into overload.

And yet, somehow, Lapiz and Lavinia, perhaps Noelle as well, were built differently.

Even after listening to Alex’s singing, they could still remain functional and even go so far as to praise him that he did well.

The fact that she had survived that song while her sister and everyone else had collapsed beside her made Lapiz feel a sense of accomplishment.

It was similar to when Alex had confessed he liked her more than he liked her sister.

Perhaps that was the turning point.

The turning point when the young lady who had so many insecurities finally paid attention to the young man who made her lonely and fragile heart skip a beat.
