Chapter 794: Arcana Versus Reverse Arcana [Part 1]
Chapter 794: Arcana Versus Reverse Arcana [Part 1]
Efa slowly opened her eyes, while Himea let out a deep sigh.
‘They’re here.’
Both ladies thought at the same time.
Without wasting a second, Efa rang the bell, warning the soldiers of the enemy’s arrival.
Soon, more bells rang in dread, spreading the warning throughout the entire city.
The citizens had already been informed about the upcoming invasion led by the subordinates of the former Demon Lord, threatening the peace of their kingdom. That being so, they had already evacuated to the shelters meant to protect them during the siege.
Throughout the evacuation process, there was no panic among the civilians.
After all, they had expected this day to eventually come.
The soldiers stationed throughout Everdawn City immediately moved into action.
Those who were resting quickly grabbed their weapons and rushed to their assigned positions. Archers climbed onto the walls, while mages made their way toward the defensive formations prepared specifically for this moment.
With that, the atmosphere inside the city changed in an instant.
The peaceful silence that enveloped Everdawn City just last night disappeared without a trace.
In its place was an oppressive tension that seemed to weigh down on everyone.
Efa stood atop the ramparts and stared off into the distant horizon.
She could feel it.
A powerful presence was approaching.
And it wasn’t alone.
Standing beside her was Himea, whose shining golden eyes narrowed as she gazed into the distance.
The Little Devil perched on her shoulder had also stopped smiling. On its face was a rare serious expression, proving that this was something even he couldn’t brush off so easily.
“They’re almost here,” Himea said quietly.
Efa nodded. “Yes.”
She didn’t need any confirmation.
The closer the enemies got, the stronger their presence grew.
Even the soldiers who weren’t capable of sensing their enemies’ auras began to feel them gradually approach.
In the palace, Chuck, Astrea, Lapiz, Aeris, and Eleanora hurried out of their beds to prepare for battle.
Cairo and Elaine had already left their inn and were now running toward the ramparts. Having rested as much as they could, they genuinely felt thankful for Efa’s stubbornness. Thanks to her, they felt fit to fight against those from Reverse Arcana.
It was then that they sensed a strong pulse of energy heading in the city’s direction.
“Reinforce the Magical Array!” Chuck shouted, his voice magnified by a magical artifact that allowed his words to reach every last inch of the city.
Hearing his cue, the mages started chanting, activating the talismans strategically planted around the entire city.
Together, they glowed faintly with power, lighting up the invisible shield that enveloped the entire city in silver.
Suddenly, a loud boom reverberated throughout the surroundings.
An attack clashed head-on against the barrier, sending powerful gusts of wind flying outwards.
The barrier held, and yet, some of the Elven warriors were nearly blown away from the ramparts due to the aftermath of this powerful attack.
“Hoh… It’s stronger than I thought.”
A voice filled with genuine surprise reached Efa and Himea’s ears.
Hovering a few hundred meters away from the shield was a man with short blonde hair and red eyes, smiling faintly.
He was neither angry nor disappointed that his “greeting” had failed to destroy the barrier.
No.
He was simply amused. Normally, that kind of attack would have already shattered the magical defenses that protected castles and fortresses.
“So it’s you!” Chuck slowly landed on the ramparts and glared at his counterpart.
“Oh? Now this is a sight for sore eyes.” Reverse Chuck chuckled in return.
The flame sorcerer, who had crossed over from Reverse Arcana, was genuinely happy to see his counterpart.
Chuck gritted his teeth at the sight of him, and yet, he had to admit that Reverse Chuck looked incredibly cool right now.
His counterpart wore white clothes, including a white cape that made him ooze with confidence.
The young man believed that if he had the same confidence as Reverse Chuck, his life in the academy would have been several times better.
It was then that he felt someone cling onto her arm, making him glance to his right side.
There, Eleanora, who was still under the influence of the Synchronization Rate, looked at Reverse Chuck anxiously with fear in her eyes.
“Well, you’re not half bad if you have Eleanora by your side.” Reverse Chuck nodded in satisfaction. “Tell me, are Xenia and Mary your lovers as well?”
“Yes, they are,” Chuck replied firmly.
“Good!” Reverse Chuck clapped his hands. “As expected of my counterpart. You truly did not disappoint me. Well then. Have you done it with them?”
“Hey! Are you trying to embarrass me in front of everyone?” Chuck complained. “Why should I tell you if I already did it with my lovers?”
“Lions do not lose sleep over the opinions of sheep.” Reverse Chuck flipped his hair back in arrogance. “So what if everyone hears it? It just proves that you’re a capable man. Wait… don’t tell me. As my counterpart, are you perhaps impotent?”
“Who the f*ck is impotent?!” Chuck roared before giving his counterpart the middle finger. “F*ck you!”
“Now I feel better.” Reverse Chuck patted his chest in relief. “If you really ended up impotent, I would have no choice but to kill you to rid myself of a disgrace. After that, I would have taken the Eleanora, Xenia, and Mary of this world and made them give birth to my kids.”
Perhaps hearing how arrogant he was, Eleanora, who was under the influence of the Synchronization Rate all this time, suddenly managed to regain her freedom.
“You wish!” Eleanora shouted. “Although you look way cooler and look more charismatic than Chuck, I will never give birth to your child! I’d rather die instead!”
Reverse Chuck narrowed his eyes in response while rubbing his chin. It seemed that seeing his wife’s counterpart, who was not only bold but also brave, piqued his interest.
Reverse Eleanora was shy, refined, and seemed like a delicate flower, and Reverse Chuck couldn’t help but spoil her. Seeing this version of her was so refreshing that he wished to take her by force, even if he had to.
“I’ve decided,” Reverse Chuck said with a smile. “I’m making you my woman as well.”
“Over my dead body,” Chuck replied.
“Then so be it.” Reverse Chuck sneered in return. “Die.”
With that, the handsome man raised his hand and created a giant fireball in the sky, its size about a third of Everdawn City’s land.
The magical power emanating from it was so strong that Chuck immediately knew he was bound to fail even if he were to burn his life force to try and counter it.
Instead, he only did the thing he could do on the spot.
Chuck chanted one of his strongest spells to directly attack his counterpart.
Countless firebirds, all the size of an adult person’s head, manifested around him.
“Fire upon fire, rise ever higher, take to the sky and burn him to cinder!”
With his chant, the countless firebirds flew towards Reverse Chuck, passing through the barrier without any kind of resistance.
“Futile effort.” Reverse Chuck sneered as he hurled the giant fireball toward the city.
The countless firebirds rammed helplessly against the giant fireball, dispersing instantly as if they were eggs thrown against a boulder.
“Brace yourselves!” Chuck roared before using his body to shield Eleanora.
Then, the giant fireball collided with the barrier of the city, bursting into a hellish inferno.
The sound of the impact was like a thunderclap in the heavens, making those witnessing the scene feel like they were watching the end of the world come to life.
