Chapter 805: A Reason To Fight [Part 2]
Chapter 805: A Reason To Fight [Part 2]
For several seconds, there was nothing but silence.
Even the explosion that should have followed such a devastating attack never came.
Queen Elyndra’s Dragon Breath continued to pour across the battlefield, turning the earth beneath it into molten glass.
The surrounding trees disappeared without leaving even ashes behind.
King Aetherion calmly watched the devastation from atop his wife’s head.
There was no need to check the result.
After all, he had seen the strength of his wife’s breath countless times before.
Even Rank 9 existences might not survive a direct hit.
As the light receded, something caught his eye.
Reverse Nessia stood at the same spot, unscathed and supported by someone he didn’t expect.
That someone was none other than Ganelon, who had used the power of space to distort the attack, deflecting it to protect the woman that he was holding with his left arm.
“What’s the meaning of this, Brother?” King Aetherion asked. “Are you betraying me a second time?”
“I am not your brother,” Charles, who took full control over Ganelon’s consciousness, replied. “I am merely protecting the woman I love.”
Reverse Nessia’s eyes widened in shock at the firmness and conviction of the man’s voice that was holding her right now.
“L-Let go of me,” Reverse Nessia said weakly.
“Can you stand on your own?” Charles asked softly, worried about the lady beside him.
“Yes,” Reverse Nessia replied.
Charles finally let her go, and she stood shakily for a few seconds before her legs gave way.
Fortunately, he had already expected this to happen, so he caught her right away.
He picked her up in a princess carry, only to walk toward Reverse Alex.
A conflicted, reluctant look flashed on his face as he gently put down Reverse Nessia beside Reverse Alex. He then gestured at the severed arms lying on the ground.
“I’ll leave the rest to you.” Charles handed the arms to Reverse Nessia before facing off against the Elven King.
“Why?” Reverse Alex asked.
“I don’t need a reason to save the woman I love,” Charles replied. “She is different from the Nessia I know, but she is still Nessia. I can’t just watch as she dies right before my eyes.”
After saying those words, Charles took a step forward while still glaring at the Elven King, who found this scene quite amusing.
“Why are you making me look like I’m the bad guy here?” King Aetherion crossed his arms over his chest. “Also, which side are you really on? Earlier, the two of you were at each other’s necks, but now you plan to defend him?”
“I’m not defending him,” Charles answered. “You can kill him for all I care. I am just protecting my woman.”
“She’s not your woman.” Reverse Alex growled back. “She’s mine.”
Charles gave Reverse Alex a side-long glance before shifting his attention back to the Elven King.
“I know,” Charles said calmly. “I heard her say that she is only protecting the father of her child, but that doesn’t matter. I will protect Nessia even if it’s the last thing I do.”
King Aetherion sighed in response. “So be it. Since you are getting in my way, I’ll treat you as my enemy as well.”
It was then that a new development happened on the battlefield.
Nessia, Renard, Vaan, Chuck, Fran, and Lavinia moved to stand beside Charles.
“Why?”
This time, it was Charles’ turn to ask why his friends were standing by his side. From every angle, this looked like a suicidal mission with no chance of survival.
“I don’t need a reason to protect the person I love,” Nessia replied.
She didn’t want to admit it, but she was touched by her lover’s declaration earlier.
Although he was referring to Reverse Nessia at the time, it still made her heart skip a beat.
“We must have gone crazy,” Chuck said while standing beside Charles. “Hey, are we really doing this?”
Vaan and Renard were also hesitant.
King Aetherion was clearly on their side. And yet, just because Charles wished to protect Reverse Nessia, they decided to stand by him.
Whatever happened, they would always choose each other.
“Take Nessia and get away from here,” Charles said firmly. “This is my problem. I’ll handle this on my own.”
“Oh no, you don’t,” Nessia insisted. “I am not leaving you here to die.”
King Aetherion chuckled after seeing this scene.
“Oh, the irony!” King Aetherion said. “I can’t bear to look at this. How about you, My Wife? What should we do in this situation?”
“What else?” Queen Elyndra replied calmly. “We end this cleanly and efficiently.”
“You’re right as always, My Love.” King Aetherion grinned at those words. “Well then. Let’s end this now.”
The Elven King snapped his fingers, and soon, everyone from Reverse Arcana found themselves floating in the air.
Reverse Nessia and Reverse Latifa had succeeded in reconnecting Alex’s arms.
Reverse Lapiz stood before them, ready to protect her beloved from harm.
Meanwhile, Charles, Nessia, Chuck, Fran, Lavinia, Renard, and Vaan found themselves rooted to the ground, unable to move.
Queen Elyndra was using gravity magic on them, ensuring they couldn’t escape her grasp.
Even Ganelon’s power of space was rendered ineffective, preventing him from teleporting.
Fran and Lavinia were knocked unconscious by the earlier attack and were currently floating behind Reverse Alex’s back.
Now that there was nothing standing in his way of eliminating the invaders that targeted his domain, the Elven King unleashed his strongest attack with the intention of ending the lives of everyone from Reverse Arcana.
“Begone!” King Aetherion declared. “Judgement!”
Countless silver arrows streaked across the sky at that moment. This attack was impossible to evade.
Queen Elyndra also unleashed another Dragon Breath, making sure they would not be able to survive this combination attack.
Reverse Lapiz gritted her teeth and raised her scythe in response. She had already resolved herself to defend everyone with her life until she breathed her last.
But just as the attacks were about to hit her, a man with short black hair and green eyes suddenly appeared in front of her.
Reverse Lapiz had never met this man before, but for some reason, her chest ached a bit as if she was meeting someone very dear to her.
However, it was not only Reverse Lapiz who felt this way.
Lapiz also clutched her chest when she saw the person who stood in front of the people from Reverse Arcana.
It was then that the stranger’s voice reverberated throughout the surroundings, drowning out the sound of the arrows, as well as the Dragon Breath headed in his direction.
“By my name and authority, I hereby open the Thirteenth Vault of Heaven.”
A massive gate appeared before him in response and opened wide.
All the silver arrows and the breath attack that King Aetherion and Queen Elyndra had unleashed were sucked into the gate. It was like a black hole that light could neither leave nor enter.
Half a minute later, the Thirteenth Vault of Heaven closed its doors and disappeared from sight.
The man then turned to face Reverse Lapiz, who was looking back at him with moist eyes.
“W-Who are you?” Reverse Lapiz asked.
“I’ll tell you the next time we meet,” the man replied. “Go back to where you rightfully belong.”
The man then made a slashing motion at the space by his side, prompting a dimensional crack to manifest.
Suddenly, a powerful suction force washed over the members of Reverse Arcana, pulling them toward the dimensional crack without being able to resist it.
This only lasted for a few seconds. When it ended, the invaders that had tried to take over Hy-Brasil were nowhere to be seen.
The man with short hair and green eyes then shifted his attention toward Lapiz, who was looking at him in the distance.
“I’ll visit you soon,” the man said to her before shifting his gaze back to King Aetherion and the Silver Dragon.
He gave the two a long and hard look before he vanished into particles of light, flying towards the Celestial Realm where his wife was waiting for his return.
The Hermit, who was left all alone, scratched his head.
This wasn’t part of his plan.
Hy-Brasil was a trap that he had created in order to eliminate the invaders from another world.
It was a meticulous trap that required him to sacrifice many things, including the happiness of the Elven Royal Family by trapping Lapiz and Aeris’ mother inside the mysterious island.
He hadn’t been happy to do so, but for the sake of the world, he decided to harden his heart.
Though his trap did not achieve the desired results, The Hermit could only sigh. What was done was already done.
Suddenly, several life-sized cards appeared before him.
They were his compatriots, who had watched everything unfold from beginning to end.
“Have you come to mock me?” The Hermit asked.
“No,” The World replied. “You’ve worked hard for the sake of Arcana. No one here would look down on you.”
“She’s right,” the Chariot stated. “Then again, this result might be a blessing in disguise.”
“A blessing?” The Hermit frowned. “What do you mean?”
“Just a hunch,” the Chariot replied. “What do you think?”
The two other life-sized cards didn’t say anything, but their silence was enough to let the Hermit understand that they also agreed with The Chariot.
“Hmph! All that effort and we only get scraps in the end.” The Little Devil suddenly appeared before the other Deities of the World. “But I also have a feeling that this result is for the best. I can’t put my finger on it. In any case, for better or for worse, both worlds are now stabilized, is it not?”
The Little Devil then pointed over the horizon.
There, the two Dim Sum Gods were staring at each other.
Dim Dim and Reverse Dim Dim were currently chatting, with the latter telling the little bun that it couldn’t remain a softie forever.
It even warned its counterpart that soon, it would have to make a hard decision.
Dim Dim didn’t know what Reverse Dim Dim was talking about. But sensing its counterpart’s sincerity, it nodded its head in understanding.
After saying what it had to say, the Reverse Dim Dim casually waved its little hand to create a dimensional crack.
It then left behind one last warning before leaving the world of Arcana.
A warning that would soon come to pass.
