Chapter 820: Boys’ Night Out
Chapter 820: Boys’ Night Out
When Alex arrived at the dormitory, news of his return soon reached his friends.
Chuck, Nessia, Charles, and Renard all headed to the clubroom, and soon, the simple dinner turned into a small party.
It was not a victory party. For them, it didn’t count as an actual win. All of them knew that they had been lucky to survive that calamity.
But to prevent the atmosphere from getting heavy, Alex passed the gifts that King Aerindir had given to him before he left the Elven Kingdom.
“We’re old enough to drink champagne, so let’s just drink tonight!” Alex said.
“But we have classes tomorrow.” Vaan blinked. “Also, there is a curfew.”
“It’s fine,” Alex replied. “We still have two hours before curfew. As long as you don’t get yourself dead drunk, you can return to the dorm on your own two feet.”
Swept by the atmosphere, everyone decided to let loose for tonight.
Even Princess Xenia and Aeris, who had plenty of self-control, agreed to go with the flow for the time being.
Dim Dim was so happy that it started to dance while swinging its little maracas. Lapiz and Mary clapped their hands, encouraging the little bun to continue dancing.
An hour later, Alex decided to get some fresh air and opened the glass door that led to the balcony.
Looking at the entirety of the academy and feeling the cold air that was blowing against him, Alex felt refreshed.
A few moments later, he sensed a few people had come to join him on the balcony as well.
They were none other than Chuck, Vaan, Charles, and Renard.
All the boys of their club decided to accompany their president to talk to him about a few things.
For a few minutes, no one spoke. They simply stared at the stars that blanketed the heavens while they sorted out their thoughts.
The first to break this silence was none other than Alex’s roommate.
“You know, I never wished to become strong,” Chuck said softly. “My only goal had been to cure my mother and live a happy, carefree life. But now that we’re back from Hy-Brasil, I realized… I might have been a bit too naive.”
The young man spoke the thoughts all of them kept within the depths of their heart.
And now that it had been pulled into the open, they started sharing the thoughts they never had the outlet for.
“In the past, I only wanted to graduate from the academy and re-establish my noble household.” Vaan sighed as he leaned on the balcony railing. “Find a husba—errr, a wife, build a family, and make my domain prosper. However, it seems that there are still things that I need to do before then.”
Everyone pretended that they didn’t hear Vaan’s little slip-up, which he said while giving Alex a side-long glance.
To this day, except for Alex, no one was fully convinced that Vaan was a boy.
The pretty boy didn’t make it easy at all.
Some places in the academy had enchantments that prevented anyone who wasn’t a lady from entering. And Chuck had seen Vaan, on more than one occasion, enter one of them as if it was the most natural thing in the world.
He even overheard some of the ladies in their dorm saying that Vaan had joined them at a hot spring several weeks ago. They even said that they were quite surprised to see how smooth and radiant “her” skin was.
But they didn’t have much time to dwell on this matter, their attention shifting to Charles as he also decided to share his thoughts.
“When I allowed Ganelon to take over my body, I was still aware of what was happening around me,” Charles said. “And I realized how strong he was.”
The young man then raised his hand. Immediately, it turned as black as obsidian as Charles activated his Void-Touched powers.
He then snapped his fingers, which made Alex, Renard, Chuck, and Vaan look at him in disbelief.
A small crack in space had appeared in front of them.
This crack was only the size of Charles’ index finger, but it didn’t change the fact that he could now use it as well.
The Hermit had given this power as a reward to Charles. He even said that he hoped that Charles would be able to put it to good use when the world needed it the most.
‘A Void-Touched that is a Dungeon Conqueror, and is also a wielder of the power of space,’ Alex mused.
While it was obvious that his friend had barely scratched the surface of his newfound powers, having that kind of ability was something that would give Charles an edge over his peers.
He had seen how Ganelon manipulated space during the battle in Hy-Brasil. Sharing the same body had also allowed the young man to better understand how this power worked.
And while it wasn’t to the extent of the power wielded by the Paragon of Space, Rowan Vademont, Charles was still on his way to becoming a powerhouse.
Meanwhile, Renard gave Alex and Vaan a side-long glance.
He still remembered what Reverse Vaan had told him back then.
Although he knew that their Vaan and Reverse Vaan were two different people, he couldn’t help but remember how badly he had been ridiculed by that perverted bastard who claimed that his counterpart in Reverse Arcana had submitted to him.
That mere thought made Renard’s skin prickle.
But even so, after that battle ended, his desire for strength only intensified.
Among all of them, Renard was probably the one who wished to be strong so badly that he was willing to inflict pain on his body just to make it happen.
It didn’t matter if his hands became bloodied through harsh training as long as he saw results.
However, he had no intention of speaking his thoughts out loud, simply waiting for his friends to continue talking.
Although no one said it out loud, they were all waiting for Alex to share what was on his mind.
Fortunately, the young man could read the mood, so he decided to say what was on his mind.
“During summer vacation, I intended to go to the last trial of The Hermit,” Alex said. “If any of you wish to accompany me, prepare your heart and mind. This last trial ought to be the hardest trial we will face.”
Everyone looked at him with solemn expressions on their faces.
While they didn’t say anything out loud, all of them decided to accompany him in this last trial that would help them grow stronger, and perhaps… help close that overwhelming gap between them and their counterparts in Reverse Arcana.
