Chapter 3522 The Truth

Chapter 3522 The Truth

The sudden change in Alex's line of questioning caught the woman by surprise. Her face showed no change in emotion except for a slight look of confusion.

"What do you mean?" she asked. "One is obviously born with their spirit roots, aren't they?"

"But having seven spirit roots is quite rare, isn't it?" Alex asked her.

"Of course. That's why I'm the only one who has it," she quickly answered without showing much else on her face.

"I do too."

The woman took a moment to fully take in what Alex had said. "You do what?" she asked, as if not sure what to believe.

"I have 7 spirit roots too," Alex said. "As such, I have quite the insight on a person having 7 spirit roots."

The woman slouched a little. "I'm sorry, I'm not sure where this conversation is heading. If you don't mind, I would like to speak of something else."

Alex watched her for a few seconds before nodding. "You are free to change the conversation, senior. But if you do, I won't tell you how Xue Kuangren really died."

That caught her attention quite well.

"What?" she asked in a low voice. "He died during Immortal tribulation, didn't he?"

"Did he?" Alex asked. "Does it make sense for him to simply die during his Immortal tribulation, especially considering the necklace you gave him?"

Xue Yu'er's eyes widened. "I never told anyone it was a necklace!"

"I know," Alex said. "I knew firsthand because I saw him wear it."

The woman tried to speak, but even as she tried, her mind couldn't fathom what Alex was saying.

"Xue Kuangren died thousands of years ago, didn't he? That's what you said. Did you lie?" she asked, her voice growing louder.

Alex gave the slightest hint of a smile. "We should be changing topics, shouldn't we? What did you do after you arrived here, senior? How hard were your days?"

"No," she said in a strong voice. "Tell me how Xue Kuangren died."

"I will," Alex said, "if you answer me a simple question. Are your spirit roots what you were born with?"

Xue Yu'er seemed to go through every single scenario in her head, as if trying to determine the worst-case outcome of telling the truth.

Her mere hesitation was enough for Alex to understand.

"Your silence has been an answer for me, senior," Alex said. "So I will answer your question too."

Xue Yu'er's eyes narrowed.

"Xue Kuangren did fail his Immortal Tribulations, and it did lead to the downfall of the Snow Immortal sect. However, he did not die back then. Because of the items you left behind for him, he managed to hide from the Heavens as a wounded, half-ascended Immortal, who became a terror for the Northern Continent after that."

"Because he had half-ascended to Immortality, regular saint pills didn't work for him. He needed someone who could make Pill Clouds and thus Pill Veins."

Xue Yu'er listened to the story with a stern expression.

"That's where I come in. For 8 thousand years, he terrorized the sects of the Northern Continent, killing many that came to oppose him. And then, when I finally was able to call my first Pill Cloud, he appeared and took me away."

"My task was to make him a pill capable of healing him within 10 years, or I would die. He made me swear an oath."

Xue Yu'er looked at him. "You beat him?" she asked.

"I had barely broken through to the Saint realm back then. I had no chance of beating him. I merely played along with what he wanted and healed him in the end."

The woman hadn't been expecting that.

"You healed him?" she asked.

"I did. But after being healed, he went back to trying to ascend. And considering his situation, he couldn't. He tried to hide again, but I destroyed the necklace before he could. And the Heavens did the rest. So, Xue Kuangren died long after I said he did. Although, you could technically argue that the sect master of the Snow Immortal sect had died all those years ago. It was only the leftover monster that died

later."

Xue Yu'er remained silent for a long time. "Is that what you came to talk to me about?" she asked, her voice carrying traces of fury that she

kept buried.

"Well, I just wanted to learn if you were born with all seven spirit roots or not. It's related to something I wanted to research soon."

The woman's eyes narrowed. "Fine, you got me. I wasn't born with them," she said in an annoyed voice. "How did you even find out?"

Alex didn't immediately answer her. Instead, he brought something out and handed it over to her.

The woman stared at what she received for a second with a strange look. "What is this?" she asked, holding the talisman.

"Please, look at it."

The woman sent her senses into the talisman, quickly realizing there was information within it. She didn't think much of it at first, reading through it. But partway through, her expression began to change.

The more she read, the harsher her expression became, and by the end, her face was filled with nothing but fear and dread.

"Where... where did you get this?" she asked.

"In the Eastern Continent," Alex answered. "After the Snow Immortal

sect was destroyed, one of the elders ran away and started a new sect there. They were luring away orphans to steal their spirit roots. I

found it after I defeated that sect."

The information in the talisman was what he had received a long time

ago regarding how one could transplant spirit roots.

"As I wondered if one could gain all 7 spirit roots this way, I remembered that the Snow Immortal sect was where this came from," Alex said. "And that obviously led me to you, which is why I began to suspect that you may not have been born with all of your spirit roots in the first place."
