Chapter 387: Maze
Chapter 387: Maze
Liora was not afraid, though.
Her current strength provided her with enough confidence to deal with any unexpected dangers. Unless the Zerg Queen had suddenly become an Archdevil, few things could threaten her.
Most importantly, the strange composition of the Universe Chamber of Commerce’s team let her know that these people were most likely aware of something and had already made plans.
Thinking of this, Liora shook her head.
Although she believed that these people had a way to deal with the situation, she wasn’t planning to leave her fate up to them.
Since she was here, she was ready to investigate this place. At the very least, she had to discover a way to escape if something really went wrong.
Liora was about to step forward and walk into the corridor, but just then, Alpha suddenly stopped her.
"My Lord, let me.", she said with a smile as a circular disk appeared in her hand.
Following a tap of fingers, a silhouette emerged from the disk, transformed into Alpha, and fell right beside her.
Alpha’s clone had an indifferent expression devoid of any emotions, looking similar to Alpha when she had first been created.
She didn’t speak, but bowed towards Liora and Alpha before stepping forward.
"This is my puppet clone. It’s better to let it lead the way."
"After all, we can never know what dangers lurk in this place.", Alpha explained to Liora, who didn’t argue and nodded her head.
Indeed, having a clone investigate for dangers would ensure their safety.
"Let’s go then."
--
Not long after the two stepped into the corridor, Liora discovered that it possessed some strange characteristics.
Not only was the space in it dense, many times more difficult to break than an ordinary medium-level world, but a strange power permeated through it, rendering people unable to fly.
Every time one soared into the air, the strange power would arrive and suppress them. It didn’t harm them, but the power was just strong enough to force them back to the ground.
This was the case for Liora, too.
She was only able to fly for a few hundred meters before being suppressed and falling back to the ground.
This made her even more certain of her earlier guess:
This corridor was not created by the Zerg Queen, but should be a landscape that had already existed, and she simply took advantage of it.
The following events only served to confirm this suspicion even further.
--
Liora stared at the giant skeleton rushing in her direction, and her eyes narrowed.
The skeleton was composed solely of bones, yet it was several meters tall.
With every step, a thunderous booming sound would echo, as if it were not a creature but a moving mountain.
Despite its menacing posture and its bloodthirsty gaze, Liora didn’t show much fear.
With a thought, a revolving sphere appeared above her head, and with another, shot towards the undead creature.
Though the opponent possessed the power of a True Devil and could become an overlord, it was unable to resist.
A crushing sound soon resounded throughout the corridor, as its bones quickly cracked before its body shattered completely.
Liora waved her hand and silently collected the dust left behind.
On the other hand, Alpha stepped forward and leaned down, reaching out for the several fragmented wooden parts scattered across the floor.
A broken palm, a shattered leg, and a lifeless head that was filled with holes...
Alpha collected them one after another, making the scene quite eerie.
After all, these body parts all belonged to her. Or rather, to her puppet clone.
"Sure enough, this place is not entirely safe. Although this skeleton was quite weak, I was unable to detect it with my Greater Devil consciousness."
"If it had not been for Alpha’s clone being at the front, one of us would have been attacked instead.", Liora thought as she looked at the dust gathered in her hand.
She could see from its remains that the bones of this creature were actually quite ordinary, unlike those of a powerhouse.
Yet, since it was able to possess such strength, it was bound to hide certain secrets.
"Is this a being born naturally in this place? Or was it the corpse of someone who ventured here and was influenced by the corridor’s power?", Liora muttered as she put the bone fragments away.
Then, she turned to Alpha.
"How many clones can you create?", she questioned, glancing at the lifeless head she was holding with a strange expression.
Alpha did not seem to notice her gaze. After a few moments of thinking, she responded:
"Creating a puppet clone consumes a certain amount of the energy I have previously stored."
"At the moment, I only have the energy to create three."
"However, you don’t have to worry. I have already prepared for such a situation.", she said and took out the circular disk from which the previous clone had come out.
"I’ve already created several clones while still in the Demon World. As long as we’re careful and don’t continuously send them to their deaths, they should last for quite a while."
This was one of the ways Alpha had previously thought to enhance her combat power in a short period of time.
Coupled with her strange ability to integrate her clone’s powers onto herself, Alpha’s strength was far more impressive than it looked on the surface.
Liora did not know what Alpha was thinking, nor that she had worked so hard, hoping to relieve her worries.
Hearing that the clone’s death had no impact on the real body, she nodded her head and leaned down, helping Alpha collect the rest of her body parts.
It was only a few minutes later that the two rose to their feet and continued their exploration.
With a clone leading the way and the two following behind it, the two women walked deeper into the corridor.
--
The corridor seemed endless.
Although they were just walking and couldn’t fly or teleport, they were both Greater Devils after all.
According to her calculations, Liora knew that they had walked several kilometers. Yet, they had yet to find the exit.
The corridor would twist sometimes and would be divided into two at others, as if it were a maze that was forcing them to make a choice.
During this time, the attacks of the skeletons never ceased.
Fortunately, Liora had been prepared and quickly killed the undead creatures before they could cause any damage.
Under such conditions, time quickly went by.
Before long, the two had been walking for several hours.
Just when it seemed that this would continue and their journey would never end, Liora’s expression changed.
Her ears perked up as the sound of distant fighting reached them.
Although the battle only lasted for a moment before it quickly subsided, Liora knew that it was not an illusion.
"Is it a battle between undead? Or have I finally met one of the Greater Devils?", she wondered.
Either way, it didn’t matter. She had to investigate.
After all, she and Alpha had been wandering for quite a while with no results.
Perhaps it required the help of someone else to discover the maze’s secrets, or perhaps she would have to wait for an opportunity.
With that in mind, Liora exchanged a glance with Alpha before quickening her steps.
