Chapter 388: Standing By
Chapter 388: Standing By
Several figures could be seen fighting within a vast, dimly lit room.
The figures’ movements were erratic, colliding in the air while flashing across the room.
Their battle was fierce, with its mere aftermath destroying a large part of the land around them.
Within just a few minutes, the entire room had been devastated.
Only a certain corner remained unaffected, though it was unknown if this was an accident or if the figures were consciously avoiding it.
A small formation could be seen engraved in that corner, and the runes surrounding it flashed with extraordinary brilliance.
The light made it impossible for one to glimpse its interior.
Only the faint outline of a massive tree could be seen, as well as a small square-shaped object lying beside it.
Suddenly, one of the figures fighting staggered, and their movements paused.
The opponents besieging them didn’t miss the opportunity.
They all attacked them at the same time, sending them flying and seriously injuring them.
Their blood splattered across the room, creating a sea of blood below, which tried to corrupt the floor and the walls.
Neither of the two warring parties paid any attention to this, though.
Several tall creatures resumed the siege of their opponent, injuring them severely and causing more and more of their blood to drip onto the ground.
This was the scene Liora witnessed upon entering the room.
The moment she went through the entrance, she immediately activated Silent Domain to conceal both her and Alpha’s traces.
Once she made sure that neither of the two parties discovered them, she found a relatively remote location and began to survey the room. Most importantly, she surveyed the fighting figures.
She recognized both of the parties.
On one side stood an elderly Greater Devil whom she had seen before the teleportation. His face was filled with wrinkles, while his body smelled of death, as if he were at the end of his lifespan.
For a Greater Devil, whose lifespan was extremely long, this was a rare situation. Thus, Liora remembered him.
The people facing the elderly Devil were several undead creatures, resembling those she had met while on the way.
It was just that, unlike those she had previously killed with ease, the ones besieging the elderly Devil were now several times stronger.
All of them possessed strength at the Greater Devil stage, and working together, could fight against someone at the Indestructible Soul stage.
The elderly Greater Devil was only at the Indestructible Body stage.
Although more powerful than an individual undead, he found himself at a disadvantage soon after the battle began.
Seeing this, Liora understood why nobody had discovered her and Alpha’s arrival.
It was not only because these people were focused on their fight, but also because they were fairly weak.
Realizing this, Liora didn’t rush to take action but instead continued scanning her surroundings.
The appearance of a room meant that the situation was abnormal.
"This guy has been fighting for quite a while."
"It’s just that in the past, the fight only lasted for a brief moment, and he quickly fled, perhaps because his opponents were all weak."
"It’s only now, when he has found someone who could match him, that he stopped moving through the maze."
Liora noticed that a powerful formation covered the room.
It allowed entry to the people from outside, but prohibited leaving to the creatures within.
Liora sensed that she could break through the suppression if she took action, but someone at the Indestructible Body had no such ability.
"No wonder this person has not tried to escape. It’s not that he doesn’t want to, but because he can’t.", she thought.
She signaled Alpha to remain hidden and protect her.
Then, she ignored the battle and shifted her focus to the only other thing worthy of her attention in the room: the large formation in the corner.
With just a glance, Liora was able to discover its extraordinariness.
Even with her current formation attainments and strength, she found it difficult to decipher.
This didn’t make her disappointed, though. If anything, it was exactly the opposite.
The more dangerous the place and the more difficult it is to reach, the more likely it is to contain a treasure.
Moreover, since the Greater Devil had dared to venture into this place, he might have a method to bypass the formation.
Liora had previously been hesitating over whether to help the elderly Devil. But upon seeing the formation, she instantly decided against it.
"The Devil Contract only states that I have to help the Universe Chamber of Commerce deal with the Zerg."
"As for helping its members? It’s none of my business. Let alone not helping them, even if I killed one, I would only have to pay a small price."
"Moreover, it’s still unknown if the Devil Contract has any binding effect on me.", Liora thought.
Having made a decision, she continued concealing her presence while watching the battle with interest.
She didn’t have to wait for long.
Only a few minutes later, the Greater Devil’s limbs were slashed off.
Following a shrill scream, the undead pounced on his injured body and easily tore it apart.
Then, like hungry beasts full of madness, they started to devour him while still alive.
The Greater Devil’s screams gradually grew quieter, and before long, they had fully ceased.
Seeing the soul fly out of his body and sensing the lack of vitality in it, Liora knew that the battle was finally over.
Since the elderly Devil had died, she no longer had a reason to hesitate.
Staring at the undead, who were still devouring his lifeless body, she decided to take action.
She didn’t step closer, but instead attacked from afar.
A gust of wind formed and, with a wave of her hands, the wind elements shot forward.
At first, the wind looked ordinary, like an ordinary blow of the wind.
Yet, in the blink of an eye, it had grown stronger and far more terrifying.
Within a moment, the form of the wind could be seen with the naked eye.
A deep black color flashed across the wind elements before they engulfed the undead creatures.
They did not have the time to put up any resistance, much less defend themselves.
As if countless blades made of wind had struck them at the same time, their bodies began to shatter.
Before they could react, a deafening bang echoed, and the undead collapsed into a pile of broken bones.
Liora paid no heed to them.
This attack, merging her Elemental Affinity and the concept of natural disasters, would injure even True Spirit Devils, much less these undead.
After motioning Alpha to pick up their remains, her figure flashed, and she appeared before the elderly Devil’s corpse.
She discovered that most of it had already been eaten. Only blood, internal organs, and broken body parts could be seen scattered across the floor.
Liora ignored this gruesome scene.
She looked through the remains with a calm expression. Soon, her eyes lit up.
Leaning down, she reached out with her hand and picked up a bloody palm.
After staring at it for a brief moment, she removed the ring from its finger, and her consciousness moved.
"Let’s see...", she muttered as her consciousness dove into the ring. Or rather, into the space inside.
Soon after, a smile appeared on her face. Her mind moved, and an item flew out of the ring and materialized in her hands.
