Chapter 429: Trap
Chapter 429: Trap
In the space outside a medium-level world, the outlines of two figures could be seen clearly.
One wore armor made of feathers and had a pair of white wings on her back, while the other constantly moved his hands and engraved several patterns around the world.
Seeing the latter’s serious expression and the attentiveness with which he did so, the Feathered Devil couldn’t help but grumble.
"We’re just dealing with a Greater Devil. I don’t understand why we have to be so careful."
"Why do we have to set up a trap? As long as we locate them, I can kill them with just a breath."
The Feathered Devil’s companion did not answer her question.
He continued arranging symbols below, only stopping half an hour later.
The glow on the symbols signified that his work was completed.
It was only then that this Devil raised his head and stared at his female companion.
The thousands of blinking eyes on his face were revealed, making his appearance terrifying and disgusting.
Yet despite what his appearance would suggest, the Devil was quite rational and looked far from insane.
"That person has obtained the inheritance of the ancient civilization, containing countless techniques and resources."
"Since they were able to kill that lackey, they should have already been quite strong."
"Now, with the inheritance’s help, they have most likely advanced to an Archdevil.", he calmly explained.
However, when he noticed that his companion’s attitude remained nonchalant and she seemed to be taking this casually, the Thousand-Eyed Devil’s expression grew solemn.
The countless eyes on his face blinked as they constantly shifted locations with each other. Their gazes all landed on the Feathered Devil, and their pupils shone with indifference.
"Tassa! Let me remind you: these are the orders of the Leader! We have to do everything in our power to obtain the inheritance!"
"Don’t blame me for turning against you if the Leader’s plans are ruined by you!"
The Feathered Devil did not care about the Thousand-Eyed Devil’s threats and ignored his tone.
However, when she heard that this was the order of the Leader, she instantly shut her mouth and stopped arguing.
The Thousand-Eyed Devil nodded upon seeing this. He knew that his companion was somewhat insane.
Fortunately, the Leader could suppress her and make her work for him.
"Let’s go.", the Thousand-Eyed Devil said.
"The formation has been arranged. Even a veteran Creation expert will find it hard to survive as long as it’s activated, much less a newly promoted Archdevil."

Liora noticed something amiss.
The moment she took another step forward, she sensed that the world around her was different.
Although the appearance of the Origin Sea was the same and the light of worlds was visible not far away, her intuition told her that everything had turned a little more... illusory.
Illusory. This was the best way to describe it, as Liora felt that she had walked into a fake scene.
Most Archdevils would not have suspected anything. Even those who noticed something would not have been able to recognize the methods used.
But Liora felt a strong sense of familiarity with those methods.
Her gaze grew deeper.
She stopped in her tracks, not daring to walk any deeper, and surveyed the world around her, investigating every inch of it, from top to bottom.
Soon, she deciphered it.
A Devil Rune flashed in her pupils, and her gaze penetrated through this fake space. It followed its invisible connections with the outside world and succeeded in glimpsing its true nature.
Liora couldn’t help but let out a sigh. She shook her head.
"What an ingenious formation. By using several medium-level worlds as its source of power, an otherwise ordinary formation can exert such great strength."
"If one is unprepared, this formation can even pose some threat to Archdevils."
The moment that thought fell, the person manipulating the array seemed to have discovered her spying.
Though they were surprised, they quickly took action and manipulated the array.
The space around Liora shattered.
A clacking noise echoed, as if several pieces of metal were rubbing against each other.
Or rather, this was really the case.
Black metal chains emerged from all around Liora.
They grew out of space itself and fired towards her.
Despite their massive size and complicated structure, their speed was incredible.
Coupled with the subtle suppression of the formation, Liora seemed to have no time to react.
Before she could evade or put up a defense, the chains had already arrived before her.
Some of them wrapped around her limbs and bound them tightly, while others held the rest of her body in place.
In the blink of an eye, Liora had been rendered unable to move.
It was only then that the people responsible for this trap finally showed up.
The formation parted for a brief moment, and two Devils walked in—one covered in feathers and of high stature, and the other with thousands of blinking eyes squirming across their face.
"Didn’t I already tell you?"
"There was no need to go through all this trouble and make so many preparations. If we had just rushed to this place, we would have killed her and gotten our hands on the inheritance long ago.", the Feathered Devil said as she stared at Liora below with undisguised disdain.
Her companion snorted coldly.
"Don’t mess around! Let’s capture her first, and then you can voice your complaints.", the Thousand-Eyed Devil warned her.
His words were rude, but the Feathered Devil did not mind.
Or at least, she swallowed her complaints and waited for the mission to be over before voicing them again.
Both she and the Thousand-Eyed Devil turned towards Liora. Though they could see that she was unable to break free, they didn’t underestimate her and remained cautious.
They didn’t need to communicate, having reached a tacit understanding.
Simultaneously, they both took action.
A sword made of white feathers materialized in the Feathered Devil’s right hand, and she swung it forward, while the Thousand-Eyed Devil blinked repeatedly.
Light gathered in front of his eyes. The glints of his eyes seemed to have blended into a whole.
The next moment, a black beam was fired out.
