Chapter 620: Acquaintance
Chapter 620: Acquaintance
It only took a couple of strikes for the first Venerable Zerg Queen to die, and soon, her teammates met the same fate.
The remaining Zerg Servants and Queens were not a concern.
In just a couple of minutes, this massive army that had brought trouble to the entire extraterrestrial battlefield was nowhere to be seen.
Most of the Zerg were killed, while those who were less fortunate were captured alive, destined to be sent back to the Human Federation for further interrogation and experiments.
Of course, none of the human soldiers cared about the fate of these ugly beings.
After giving a couple of instructions to their subordinates, ordering that the soldiers clean up the battlefield and collect everything valuable, the four Venerable humans moved toward Liora.
“Your Excellency.”, one of them immediately cupped his hands, and the rest of them followed his lead.
“There’s no need for pleasantries.”, Liora waved her hand, her gaze sweeping across the four Venerables and sizing them up.
Unlike what the outcome of the previous fight would suggest, these people were actually not weak at all.
In particular, one of them had reached the very peak of Rank 9, needing only an opportunity to become an Emperor.
Unfortunately, such an opportunity was illusory, and no one knew when it would come.
It might come the very next moment, allowing him to turn into an Emperor on the spot, but it could very well not arrive until the end of his lifespan.
There were countless people like him.
Liora only briefly paid attention to this man.
Soon, her gaze landed on another Venerable standing behind him.
This man’s aura was turbulent, sometimes weak and sometimes strong.
Moreover, from Liora’s earlier observation, it was obvious that he was unfamiliar with his own power, being a major reason why they had found themselves on the losing side.
Clearly, the man had just advanced.
But this was not what made Liora pay special attention to him.
Rather, it was the strange sense of familiarity he evoked.
Upon closer inspection, she noticed something.
Although he tried his best to hide it, maintaining the same respectful demeanor as the others, a trace of shock and fear still lingered in his eyes.
Liora instantly judged that he recognized her.
And so, she didn’t hesitate to ask:
“Do we know each other?”
The man didn’t rush to respond. He first nodded his head in agreement before shaking it repeatedly.
“Student Liora—no, Emperor Liora, I am an instructor of the War Academy. I guess this is why you may feel familiar with me. However, we’ve never met before…”
His tone appeared hesitant, as though he wanted to say something but was unable to muster the courage to do so.
Even so, the few words he said were enough to cause the eyes of the Venerables around them to widen.
Was Liora a graduate of the War Academy?
This made sense as it was one of the most prestigious Academies, but it was also quite strange.
For one to be able to become an Emperor, they were bound to be extraordinary even during their youth.
To never have heard of them before was surprising.
Still, everyone here had lived for hundreds, if not thousands, of years.
They knew better than to ask these questions at a time like this.
They made a mental note of it, planning to question their teammate about it when everything was over.
In response to the man’s explanation, Liora nodded her head, seemingly agreeing to his words.
But secretly, her consciousness communicated with the Information World, trying to collect more information about this man.
It didn’t take long before she realized where the sense of familiarity stemmed from.
The Venerable in front of her was indeed an instructor of the War Academy. Moreover, the two had briefly interacted before.
Amon!
This was a name that didn’t mean much to Liora.
Yet as she sifted through her memories, she quickly rediscovered some information about him.
When she had first enrolled in the War Academy and shown her extraordinary “potential”, many instructors had attempted to get close to her, asking if she wished to become their student.
Among them, the one who had piqued her interest was Amon.
Not because he was the strongest among these instructors, but because he had been the most forceful about it.
She could remember that his student had been quite angry about receiving a rejection from Alpha, going as far as to send several threatening messages.
It was only after she entered the Information World and the Blood Arena that these messages finally quieted down.
Liora had long forgotten about them. It was only now that she met him again that she recalled them.
Seeing the person behind her “troubles” standing so respectfully before her, calling her “Emperor Liora”, Liora felt no joy.
She didn’t take action to teach Amon a lesson.
After all, she was not a true “student”.
Had she been an ordinary person who had been “bullied” by her teachers, Liora might have sought revenge after gaining enough strength.
But for her, this incident had been a joke from the very beginning. She had never taken it seriously.
Glancing at the nervous Amon from the corner of her eye, Liora chose against continuing that conversation.
She focused on the strongest Venerable, who happened to be the one in the lead.
“What’s going on? Why did you start a fight with these Zerg?”
Liora was quite curious.
Normally, two such powerful teams should not engage in combat for no reason, as it would likely result in mutual destruction.
For the two sides to fight to death, there had to be a reason. Or rather, a hidden benefit.
The Venerable she addressed hesitated. After glancing at his teammates and receiving a nod of approval, he finally spoke up, giving an answer to her doubts.
“Emperor Liora, it’s all because of the ancient city.”, he sighed, trusting that Liora had long learned the news.
“Not long ago, our team and the Zerg happened to encounter a city fragment. Once there, we fought but, unfortunately, we were on the losing side.”
“The Zerg managed to obtain the final inheritance. Still, we also got our hands on some treasures.”
“We suspect that the Zerg chased after us because of this.”
As he spoke, the Venerable reached into his spatial storage, retrieving an object from inside.
The moment Liora’s eyes landed on it, she immediately recognized its identity.
