Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress

Chapter 621: Embarrassment & Treasure

Chapter 621: Embarrassment & Treasure

A golden token, similar to the azure and white ones she had obtained during her journey in the city fragment.

Immortal Token!

This was its name, and Liora had already received one from Elaouthr.

Already possessing such a thing and believing she already knew its function, Liora had little interest and was prepared to tell the Venerable to take it back.

But just then, a voice rang inside her mind. Liora’s expression visibly changed.

She glanced at the Immortal Token and then at the Venerable, before finally waving her hand.

The golden token immediately disappeared, placed within the Cosmic Sea. In its place now stood several Zerg corpses, ranging in strength from World Lords to Venerables.

“This object is really useful for me. However, I won’t take your gift for nothing.”

As she said this, Liora let the corpses fly toward the Venerables.

“I believe that you understand the value of these remains better than me.”

“Whether it is to study them personally or to trade them with the Human Federation in exchange for rewards, their value is not any lower than that of the token.”

The Venerable said nothing upon seeing Liora pocket the Immortal Token. On the contrary, a smile appeared on his face.

This had been his intention all along.

“Thank you, Emperor.”, he immediately clasped his hands and thanked her before dividing the remains among his teammates.

Liora did not wait for them to finish. Taking the opportunity, she decided to slip away.

“Since that’s the case, our deal is over. Given your strength, you shouldn’t face any threats while wandering in the battlefield as long as you’re not too greedy or ambitious.”

“I won’t be accompanying you any further.”

After saying this, Liora briefly glanced at the battlefield below.

Having ensured that there was nothing else of value waiting for her, she didn’t linger any longer.

Before long, her figure blurred and she vanished.

Only the four Venerables remained in the void, as well as the many Zerg corpses surrounding them.

After several seconds of silence, one of them suddenly spoke up.

“Leader, is it worth it to give up the token? You’ve already witnessed how much these Zerg valued it.”

“Although Emperor Liora saved us, is it worth giving up something like that?”

Unlike Liora, these Venerables did not recognize the Immortal Token.

However, the trouble the Zerg had gone through to obtain it had already showcased its value.

Yet it was exactly because of this reason that the Leader had made such a decision.

“You’ve already seen it. Although we attempted to shake them off, the Zerg were able to pinpoint our exact location. I suspect that the token has a special tracking function.”

“It’s fine if this Zerg team is the only one that can locate it. However, who knows if there are any other people looking for such tokens?”

The Venerable shook his head.

“Giving this thing up is the best decision at the moment. Even though we are powerful, this is no longer the outside universe. In this current extraterrestrial battlefield, only Emperors can keep themselves safe.”

“The rest have to remain cautious.”

A look of understanding flashed across the faces of his teammates. Then, their gazes subconsciously moved toward Amon.

“Brother Amon, I didn’t expect that you had such a close relationship with an Emperor. You’ve been hiding well.”, one of them chuckled, her words filled with envy.

Being acquainted with an Emperor was an incredible opportunity.

Although Venerables appeared powerful to ordinary people, they all knew very well that they were nothing in front of a true Emperor.

Didn’t you see how easy Liora killed the Venerable Zerg Queens? All it took was a couple of strikes.

In front of such a being, Venerables were nothing.

“Yes! Yes! With the support of Emperor Liora, brother Amon will have a bright future ahead of him. Even becoming an Emperor is possible!”, another one echoed the woman’s words.

The more the Venerables praised him, however, the more embarrassed Amon became.

By the end, he could no longer take it.

“Everyone, please don’t misunderstand! Emperor Liora and I have no relationship at all! At most, we belong to the same Academy!”

His sudden outburst stunned the other Venerables.

Given their intelligence, they quickly realized something.

Amon… must have offended Emperor Liora in the past.

Otherwise, there would have been no reason to so vehemently deny the relationship between them.

Immediately, the three Venerables exchanged a quick glance. Secretly, they took several steps back, opening some distance between them and him.

In their minds, the same thought took root at the same time:

They had to find a way to kick Amon out of their team!

Otherwise, they would suffer greatly!

Meanwhile, Liora did not know what happened following her departure.

She had long forgotten Amon’s matters and did not seek revenge from him, much less from the Awakeners who associated with him.

However, other people did not know that fact.

As the news spread and the reason for their enmity surfaced, Amon was bound to be isolated from his peers.

Even with his newfound Venerable strength, this was a huge blow.

After all, who would dare risk offending an Emperor for the sake of a mere Venerable?

Not only would they not help him, but many Kings, Venerables, and even Emperors would choose to suppress him in an attempt to curry favor with Liora.

This, however, was a matter of the future.

As she wandered through the extraterrestrial battlefield, getting closer to the ancient city, Liora held the Immortal Token and closely examined it.

Yet despite the improvement of her stage and overall strength, she failed to find anything strange about this object, though she knew it was bound to contain certain secrets.

“Why did you ask me to get this token? Does it have any function besides opening the inheritance trials?”

The moment her words fell, a figure emerged from her body and landed beside her.

It was Alice.

Glancing at the Immortal Token, a trace of curiosity flashed across her eyes.

But as she heard Liora’s question, that curiosity soon vanished.

Pride replaced it as she puffed her chest.

“Hehe. Do you think that the Immortal Token is merely a key for the City Lords’ inheritance?”

“You’re gravely mistaken. Even when my creator was alive, they would have to pay a heavy price in order to obtain this treasure.”

After a brief pause to build suspense, Alice continued with a smile.

“The interesting thing is not the Immortal Token itself. Instead, it is what happens when several of them are gathered together.”

“Don’t you already have another one? Why don’t you give it a try?”
