Chapter 658: Confrontation
Chapter 658: Confrontation
Although the Heaven Emperor’s words suggested that he had recognized her, Liora sensed a trace of unfamiliarity within his eyes when he looked at her.
The expression on his face betrayed the fact that he had failed to truly recognize her. Rather than say that he did, it would be more accurate to compare it to recognizing a character he had once seen in a movie.
“Are your memories completely sealed?”, Liora couldn’t help but shake her head, disappointment written all over her face.
It seemed that she was saddened to see her former enemy end up in such a situation.
“Did your rebirth leave you like this? It seems that the Cosmic Universe was not very kind to you.”
“Although it took me a while, I was still able to awaken my memories. You, on the other hand, were reborn way earlier than me.”
“Yet…”
She didn’t explicitly explain what she meant with those words.
However, although he did not possess the Hollow Ancestor’s complete memories, the fragments he had were enough to let the Heaven Emperor understand what she was implying.
He subconsciously knew that the woman was directly linked, if not outright responsible, for his current state. Or rather, the two had been reborn together for some reason.
Thinking of how he had lost everything, including his strength and even identity, and had been forced to start all over, the Heaven Emperor gritted his teeth, unable to conceal the hatred in his eyes.
His momentum surged, his bloodlust apparently clear.
Then…
He turned around and fled.
Although everything in him screamed for him to kill this enemy of his, his rationality prevailed over mere emotions.
The woman in front of him was obviously unfathomable.
Moreover, his current state was extremely dire. The unknown cultivator had injured him.
His chances of defeating Liora were slim. If anything, it would be far more likely that he would be the one to be defeated.
He would likely die!
Upon reaching that conclusion, the Heaven Emperor did not waste any time.
The black mist surrounding him broke into countless particles, revealing its true identity.
The mist had never been a mist.
Instead, it was composed of countless tiny insects.
And under his command, they rushed away at full speed, dividing themselves and disappearing into the horizon.
His figure had also fused into them, seemingly becoming a part of this giant swarm.
His aura disappeared. Or rather, it fully merged with the insects.
It seemed that he had been replaced by them. As long as one of them remained, he would never die.
Liora frowned.
Even though she had interacted with Zerg countless times, she still felt somewhat disgusted when faced with a swarm of ugly insects.
Their disgusting appearance and shrill chirping made the situation worse.
Even so, she didn’t back down.
She wasn’t scared that the Heaven Emperor would escape.
After all, she hadn’t wasted so much time speaking with him without a reason.
Before the insects could go far, she calmly raised her hand, her demonic energy pouring into the Immortal Token resting atop her palm.
The consequences were immediate.
The many courtyards and pavilions around her started to glow. More precisely, the formations enveloping them did.
Their brilliance converged into a vast domain, stretching several kilometers and forming a prison that tightly sealed its surroundings.
The insects within paused for a brief moment.
It seemed as though they were wondering what they would do next.
Unfortunately, they didn’t have too much time to decide on their next move.
The next instant, Liora took action once more.
She didn’t personally strike.
Still using the Immortal Token in her stead, she sent it shooting forward at terrifying speed.
Like a comet crashing upon earth, every insect that collided with it was burned alive.
Not only that. Soon, the token’s trajectory changed midair, targeting the insects around it.
Countless shrill cries echoed, forming a soul-stirring chorus powerful enough to shake an Emperor’s soul.
Yet Liora showed no reaction.
She continued letting the Immortal Token weed out the insects bit by bit.
Each of them that died flowed toward her, transforming into pure essence and merging with the Cosmic Sea.
It didn’t take long.
The cries of the insects slowly quieted down.
Less than half a minute later, the last one of them disappeared, and the surroundings regained peace.
Despite this, Liora didn’t smile.
She knew that the Heaven Emperor was not dead just yet.
Not only was her invisible connection with the Hollow Ancestor still intact, confirming that their agreement remained in place, but she could also sense something else.
With a thought, her body blurred, reappearing several kilometers away, at the very edge of the cage of light.
She stared at the “prison walls”.
To the naked eye, there seemed to be nothing wrong with it.
Yet in her senses, she could see a tiny gap near its very bottom.
It was barely the size of a single atom.
But it had been more than enough for the Heaven Emperor to escape.
“Sure enough, the reincarnation of the Hollow Ancestor cannot be underestimated.”
“Even if he has lost his memories, his methods and decision-making are extraordinary and ruthless.”
Liora sighed.
However, she was not too disappointed. She had already expected it, which was why she had been so careful as to set up a secret formation using those already engraved throughout the city.
She had already achieved much of her goal.
The Heaven Emperor had been even more seriously injured.
Now, his strength would barely reach the Emperor stage.
More importantly, Liora already had a way to track him down.
With a thought, a strand of essence appeared in her hand, carrying the familiar aura unique to the Zerg.
It belonged to the Heaven Emperor.
Under Liora’s command, flames wrapped it up, and it began to burn.
Then, it seemed to resonate with a faraway being.
It moved, passing straight through the gap in the formation, and fired toward another part of the ancient city.
Without any hesitation, Liora chased after it.
