Chapter 664: Face-to-face
Chapter 664: Face-to-face
Liora watched Elaouthr’s reaction to the golden plane.
Her eyes immediately narrowed as she took action from afar.
She urged the Cosmic Sea and the Cultivation Star residing within it, using its power to weave countless runes that fell on the struggling demon.
Combined with his own efforts and the power of his previous life, the original body’s will soon retreated and fell back into a slumber.
Even so, its failed attempt to regain consciousness had brought Elaouthr heavy damage.
His aura decreased even further, nearly falling below Rank 11.
The time he could remain awake and in control of this body had also decreased as a result.
This was enough to make Elaouthr feel a trace of heartache.
Each extra second at his disposal increased the chances of him awakening again earlier.
A difference of a few minutes could very well prevent him from making preparations and thus decide his life.
In contrast to Elaouthr, who regarded this matter as a life-and-death situation, Liora was excited to witness this phenomenon.
They had finally discovered the place where the secret realm’s true mysteries led.
The majestic holy aura had already betrayed this. The unknown being’s stimulation only further reinforced that idea.
“This person did not wake up even as all his subordinates perished and even when the fortress itself was destroyed.”
“To be able to alarm him, the world below must be extraordinary.”
With that thought, Liora didn’t linger.
Her body flashed, passing straight through hundreds of space layers and appearing in front of the final layer in a split second.
Then, with another step, she entered it too.
The first to follow her in was Alpha.
Seeing her Lord rush in, she showed no apprehension or fear at the potential danger.
She also walked into the golden space, soon disappearing inside its brilliance.
Elaouthr was soon the only being remaining in the ruined fortress.
He hesitated briefly.
The awakening of the unknown powerhouse had been because of the place below.
If he were to enter it, that unknown being would likely be stimulated further and awaken once more.
By then, he would have to spend even more effort in order to suppress them.
Elaouthr remained in thought for several seconds.
In the end, he gritted his teeth, choosing to take a gamble.
“It doesn’t matter. At worst, I’ll simply abandon this body prematurely. Perhaps it will be a good thing…”
“I can sense that the original owner is somewhat peculiar. It’s best to get rid of this body as soon as possible.”
It was unknown whether these were the demon’s true thoughts or he was simply trying to convince himself.
Either way, he soon moved through the space layers, chasing after the two women.
—
The change was instant and aggressive.
The final layer and the world beyond it seemed to exist in completely different dimensions.
The moment Liora stepped into the golden void, she was engulfed in a golden brilliance.
The world behind her, including the Heavenly Armor Pavilion, disappeared from her senses.
For a moment, the only thing that remained was the golden light, occupying her entire vision.
It was only several moments later, when her eyes adjusted to the scenery, that she was able to take a closer look at her surroundings.
Kingdom of Gods.
This was the word she had previously used to describe this place, and this description proved to be strangely apt.
At the very least, in Liora’s opinion, this was exactly how the Kingdom of Gods should be.
It was an area stretching for countless kilometers, encased in golden walls made from holy light from every direction.
It looked like a prison, allowing no person to enter or leave.
However, few people would pay attention to that aspect.
Most would stare at the rest of the scenery and call it a paradise.
Tall mountains. Clear, winding rivers. Forests that were full of life.
The sound of birds singing seemed to echo no matter where one stood, while countless lives coexisted.
In villages, humans could be seen tending to their gardens.
Only a few hundred meters away, towering demons lay with their pups and were eating.
Yet despite this, the two races did not confront one another.
They maintained a peaceful calm, as though they were not enemies, but neighbors.
From the happy smiles on the humans’ faces and the lack of any hardship on their bodies, it was obvious that this was not a momentary situation.
Long before Liora had come, this “prison” had been the same.
Calm. Peaceful.
… Strangely beautiful.
Upon facing this scene that contrasted strongly with the fortress outside, the two women, Liora and Alpha, had different reactions.
Alpha stared at the surroundings with surprise, showing a look of curiosity and longing.
Although part Devil, she was one of the few individuals among this race who didn’t yearn for pure destruction.
Such a peaceful world was what she was seeking. She hoped it would become a reality once her Lord achieved her goal and had nothing more to chase.
On the other hand, Liora didn’t pay much attention to the humans themselves.
Their peaceful lives were interesting, but she knew very well that things were far from as simple as they seemed.
She had witnessed several civilizations throughout her journey.
Yet no matter how peaceful their societies might have seemed at the start, every one of them would display the same characteristics sooner or later.
It was only a matter of whether it was hidden or not.
“Peace has to exist at the expense of others.”
“Even if we take the Human Federation as an example, where most ordinary people can live well and don’t have to struggle for a living, that is only an illusion.”
“That peace was hard-won by the Awakeners constantly fighting on the front lines, sacrificing their lives to fight against the other Apex Civilizations.”
“For peace to exist, sacrifices have to be made. Someone has to sacrifice something.”
Liora’s gaze swept through her surroundings.
Her eyes soon brightened.
She sensed something that was impossible to capture at first glance.
On the bodies of each of the creatures within this prison, a familiar type of energy resided, one that was of great interest to her.
When her consciousness spread outward and covered millions of people, that energy became even clearer to her senses.
She immediately noticed that large amounts of it were being produced by all creatures with every passing moment.
Then, they were slowly driven out of their bodies before flowing elsewhere.
The streams of energy moved toward the same location.
When Liora traced their trajectory, she came face-to-face with the culprit responsible.
It was a familiar man.
Black hair. Black eyes. An ordinary face accompanied by an inexplicable sense of majesty.
It was the unknown powerhouse among cultivators, presumably their emperor and a suspected Rank 13 being.
The moment Liora saw him, her eyes narrowed.
She had previously seen this person many times before.
As a statue. When Elaouthr possessed his body. Even in the memories of the cultivators she had killed.
Yet it was the first time she had such an intense reaction.
For no other reason than the person before her was no longer a mere statue or memory.
He was actually alive!
And as though sensing her gaze, he turned to look at her.
For a split second, their eyes collided through the air, their clashing momentum spreading throughout the holy prison.
