Evolving My Undead Legion In A Game-Like World

Chapter 1160: Retrieving The Corpse

Chapter 1160: Retrieving The Corpse

More than two hundred and fifty miles away, Michael remained where he was. The old man's final words continued echoing in his ears.

"Michael Norman, I hope our next meeting will be more peaceful."

"…"

His first reaction wasn't relief but suspicion.

A trap?

His eyes narrowed as he carefully observed his surroundings. After everything that had happened, he found it difficult to simply trust anyone from the Federation.

Over the past year, every interaction he had experienced with them had taught him one thing. Their morals were questionable. Not because they were necessarily evil. Michael couldn't entirely blame them. But understanding their reasoning didn't mean he trusted them.

The old man's words might genuinely be a gesture of goodwill. Or he might simply be trying to lure Michael out of hiding.

After all, the Federation Demigod had already witnessed his astonishing escape method. He could also very well be pretending to leave while watching closely.

Michael slowly shook his head.

"No. I'll wait a bit more."

He remained hidden.

One minute passed. Nothing happened. Two minutes. Still nothing. Three full minutes passed. The forest remained completely silent, and there were no more terrifying fluctuations from the distance.

Only then did Michael finally lower his guard slightly.

"…It really ended."

He looked toward the distant horizon.

"I don't have much time."

The Enhancer. Its remaining duration was almost exhausted. His two pseudo-Demigod undead would soon return to their original strength.

Before that happened, if there was anything else that needed to be settled, he had to do it within the next few minutes.

Without another moment of hesitation, space rippled and Michael disappeared from his location.

Several moments later, Michael arrived back above the devastated battlefield. The sight before him left him momentarily speechless.

The battlefield had disappeared.

Everything within hundreds of miles had been transformed beyond recognition. Countless enormous fissures covered the earth like scars left by the wrath of the heavens. Even the air still crackled with unstable spatial fragments.

Michael silently flew lower. His eyes immediately landed upon the Undead High Drake. The enormous dragon lay inside an unbelievably large crater.

Nearby, the Bone Dragon stood guard, motionless like an ancient statue.

The old man was nowhere to be seen.

Michael's gaze swept across the surroundings several more times.

"…He really left."

Despite that, Michael still didn't immediately descend. Instead, he spread his senses as far as possible. Only after several long moments without discovering anything unusual did he slowly fly downward.

He landed beside the gigantic head of the Undead High Drake. The dragon lowered its head slightly. A faint fluctuation of soul consciousness entered Michael's mind.

Michael's heartbeat quickened.

"…Dead?"

The High Drake confirmed once more. Its simple thoughts carried absolute certainty. It had watched the target lose every sign of life. Only then had it stopped attacking.

Michael stared at the dragon for several seconds. He trusted his undead. Still, he wasn't careless. Maintaining his vigilance, he slowly walked beneath the dragon's enormous body.

Only then did he finally see her.

The blood-robed woman's body lay at the center of the crater.

Almost everything within several hundred meters had melted into smooth, glass-like crystal from the overwhelming heat and energy. Her crimson robes had nearly vanished.

Her body was covered with horrifying burns. Countless bones protruded through blackened flesh. Even the surrounding blood aura had completely disappeared.

Most importantly, Michael could sense nothing from her.

Even so, he stopped dozens of meters away. His eyes carefully observed every detail. A Demigod was not an existence one approached carelessly until absolutely certain.

Only after confirming once more through the High Drake, and once more through his own senses, did Michael finally take another cautious step forward.

His heart began beating faster.

If she was truly dead, then lying before him was the corpse of his first Demigod victim.

Michael slowly crouched. His gaze never left the blood-robed woman's body.

Although the dragon breath had left her in a horrifying state, one thing immediately surprised him.

"…It's still this complete?"

Her skin had been almost completely burned away. Her robes had long since turned to ash. Large portions of flesh had been carbonized, exposing scorched bones beneath. Yet the body itself remained intact. Both arms. Both legs. The torso. Even her head. Nothing had been blown apart or reduced to dust.

A Demigod's physique truly exceeded imagination. After taking such a point-blank attack, her corpse still retained remarkable integrity.

Michael could not help taking a deep breath.

"If this had been a Rank Four…"

There probably wouldn't have been enough left to identify the victim.

Without wasting another second, Michael stretched out his hand.

The Mausoleum of Endless Dominion responded immediately.

A blue ripple spread beneath the corpse. Then the blood-robed woman's body slowly sank into the shadows before disappearing completely.

The moment the corpse entered the Mausoleum, Michael felt as though a tremendous burden had been lifted from his shoulders. His lips unconsciously curved upward.

His greatest harvest was finally secured.

With this he could immediately have a Rank Five undead, unlike the uncertainty he felt about evolving one of his own to that rank.

For some reason he felt it wouldn't be as simple as just raising a creature's racial grade. In any case, after reviving the female Demigod he planned to try several things he hadn't considered doing anytime soon.

Michael didn't remain distracted for long. His gaze shifted toward the Bone Dragon. The giant undead still stood vigilantly in place, blue flames quietly burning within its eye sockets.

Michael immediately waved his hand.

"Return."

The Bone Dragon disappeared into the Mausoleum as well. The instant it vanished, Michael visibly relaxed.

Maintaining two Level 100 undead with his law skill simultaneously had placed an enormous burden upon him. He slowly exhaled.

"Much better…"

There wasn't much time remaining. He could already feel the Enhancer approaching its limit. Soon the Undead High Drake would also return to its original realm.
