Chapter 1161: Clearing A Little Conscience
Chapter 1161: Clearing A Little Conscience
Michael leaped lightly, landing atop the dragon's gigantic head, and placed one hand against the cold scale.
"Let's head back."
The High Drake let out a low rumble. Its massive wings unfolded.
BOOM!
The enormous dragon rose into the sky before turning toward Brightgate City.
Several minutes later, the surrounding space quietly distorted. A figure stepped out as though walking through an invisible curtain.
Unlike the previous old man, this newcomer appeared much younger. He wore dark robes embroidered with unfamiliar silver patterns. His aura was completely restrained. Yet merely standing there caused the unstable space nearby to become noticeably calmer.
His eyes slowly swept across the devastated battlefield. The countless shattered mountains. The enormous craters. The lingering traces of dragon breath.
Finally, his gaze settled upon the direction Michael had departed. He clicked his tongue.
"Tsk."
"What a ruthless little fellow."
There wasn't much emotion in his voice. It sounded more like admiration than criticism. He lowered his gaze toward the empty crater where the Demigod's corpse had once rested.
"…Not even the body was left behind."
He already knew what that meant. When it came to corpses and a necromancer, there had never been another outcome.
His gaze shifted. He looked toward the distant sky.
"It seems Aurora has quite a few hidden powerhouses after all."
This tiny realm was becoming increasingly interesting.
After a moment, he smiled faintly and shook his head.
"Forcing that boy to give up what he obtained from the Origin Will wouldn't be easy, it seems."
He paused. Trying to coerce such a person would likely produce the exact opposite result.
The newcomer cast one last glance toward the direction of Brightgate City. Then his figure quietly faded.
As though he had never existed. Only the devastated battlefield remained as silent proof that four Demigod-level powers had clashed there only moments before.
Michael was naturally unaware of what had taken place after he left the battlefield. At this moment, his attention was entirely focused on Brightgate City.
The Undead High Drake flew through the sky at tremendous speed. As the city gradually came into view, Michael's expression slowly became complicated.
The final battle had taken place far away from Brightgate. He had intentionally drawn the battlefield away from the city. Yet Demigod-level battles were simply too terrifying. The earlier aftershocks alone had been enough to affect everything for hundreds of miles.
From above, the consequences became painfully obvious.
Large sections of many structures had developed countless cracks. Smoke still rose from different parts of the city. Roads had split apart. Numerous houses had caved in after enduring repeated shockwaves.
People filled nearly every open street. Some were helping the injured. Others searched frantically through damaged buildings. Medical personnel and supernaturals rushed from one location to another.
Although the city had avoided complete destruction, it had still paid a heavy price.
Michael silently watched everything below.
"…"
A strange feeling rose inside his chest.
Objectively, none of this was his fault.
The blood-robed woman had been the one to attack Brightgate. She had been the one who forced the battle. No reasonable person could blame Michael for what had happened, since he had possessed no power to prevent any of it.
Objectively speaking, the Federation bore more responsibility for failing to contain a living, chaotic weapon without restraint.
He understood that.
Yet understanding something logically and feeling nothing emotionally were two different things. After all, if he had not been the target, this battle would never have taken place.
He couldn't save those who had already died. Not even a Demigod could casually reverse death. The dead should remain dead. Trying to violate that principle always came with a price.
However, there was still something he could do.
Michael's eyes suddenly brightened. He slowly looked beneath him. The Undead High Drake. It was temporarily standing at the threshold of Rank Five. Its control over mana had reached a level impossible for ordinary Rank Four existences.
True, the High Drake itself couldn't use healing magic. Normal undead weren't suited for that. But magic circles were different.
Magic circles relied less upon natural affinity and more upon precise construction and sufficient energy. And thanks to the countless insights he had unconsciously accumulated while cultivating, Michael possessed knowledge of an enormous number of lower-ranked healing formations.
He couldn't construct a genuine Rank Five healing array. That exceeded his current understanding. But did he really need one?
Michael immediately closed his eyes. Countless runes flashed through his mind. One healing array after another appeared before being rejected.
Finally, several different formations merged together. He continuously adjusted them. Removing unnecessary sections. Strengthening others. Expanding their area of effect.
Several minutes passed. Only then did Michael slowly open his eyes.
"It'll do."
He placed one hand against the High Drake's skull. Immediately, an astonishing amount of mana surged from the dragon. The sky above Brightgate suddenly darkened.
Citizens instinctively looked upward.
"What now?"
"Another attack?"
"Oh no…"
Many people who had only just survived turned pale. Parents instinctively embraced their children. Even the city's defenders became tense.
Then countless emerald lines appeared across the heavens. One after another. Thousands. Tens of thousands. The lines spread outward in every direction, weaving together into an unimaginably enormous magic circle.
It continued expanding. Larger and larger. Until it completely covered Brightgate City.
Everyone stared upward in stunned silence.
"…Is that magic?"
"So… large?"
The formation rotated slowly. Its countless runes illuminated the heavens like stars.
Director Lin looked up in astonishment.
"What is he doing…?"
High above the city, Michael calmly extended both hands.
"Activate."
BOOOOOOM!!
The enormous formation suspended above Brightgate erupted with dazzling brilliance. The High Drake's immense mana surged into every section of the magic circle.
Thousands of interconnected runes awakened one after another. For a brief moment, the entire city appeared to have gained a second sun.
The emerald radiance illuminated every street, every building, and every frightened face below.
Then the light softened.
Tiny droplets of emerald rain began descending from the heavens.
