Chapter 1198: Progress
Chapter 1198: Progress
Michael's mana continued disappearing. For the first time since the possession began, he started feeling a strain. His mana pathways were carrying an amount of energy far beyond what they normally handled.
Fortunately, the ghost's spiritual properties were reinforcing him from within. Without Divine Incarnation Possession, Michael suspected his body would already be screaming.
Seventy percent.
The Ice Wheel accelerated.
KRRRRRRRRR…
The concentric rings spun faster. The entire frozen region began feeding the spell.
Michael's silver hair whipped violently around him. His robes, reinforced with his mana, snapped against the wind.
The spear shrank again.
Three metres.
Then two.
At this point, it looked almost elegant. A narrow silver-white lance floated above Michael's palm.
Beautiful and terrifying.
Michael swallowed.
"This thing…"
His instincts were warning him.
Eighty percent.
The world around the spear began distorting. Thin black lines appeared intermittently around its edge.
These were not cracks in the ice, but cracks in space.
Michael's eyes widened slightly. Ice Wheel had already locked the surrounding space. Yet the sheer concentration of energy contained inside the spear was beginning to forcefully deform even that reinforced environment.
Ninety percent.
Michael's arms started trembling.
The ghost finally spoke.
"You should stop."
With a Demigod directly telling him to stop, Michael didn't need more convincing. It definitely wasn't because he was afraid of killing himself.
Michael's attention returned to the spell. He needed a target. His perception swept across the frozen landscape before locking onto a distant mountain.
The mountain stood nearly thirty kilometres away. Several kilometres tall.
Michael raised his arm. The spear aligned itself. He tightened his fingers.
The Ice Wheel behind him rotated once, then stopped.
Complete silence descended.
Michael released the spell.
"Go."
There was no explosion. No thunder nor dramatic flash. The spear simply disappeared.
Michael's pupils contracted. He hadn't even seen it move.
A fraction of a second later, the distant mountain vanished.
For one impossible instant, the entire upper half of the mountain simply ceased to exist. Then reality caught up.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!
The Netherworld shook.
A colossal white pillar erupted from the mountain's location and pierced into the dark-grey sky.
The shockwave arrived several seconds later. Michael's robes snapped backward. The frozen ground beneath him peeled away in enormous layers. Kilometres of black stone fractured simultaneously.
The surrounding dead mountains trembled. Several distant peaks collapsed.
Then came the cold.
A wave of silver-white frost exploded outward from the impact point.
Ten kilometres.
Twenty.
Thirty.
The landscape froze instantly. Massive formations of ice rose from the ground like crystalline mountains. The remaining half of the original peak disappeared beneath a growing glacier.
Michael stared.
"…What the hell?"
The destruction continued. The initial impact had pierced through the mountain. But the Ice Wheel's Law amplification had caused the spell to keep propagating afterward.
Everything in the spear's path had been frozen at a conceptual level.
Before Michael could even process what was happening, the silver-white wheel behind him flickered.
His vision blurred. The strength that had filled every corner of his body only moments ago vanished frighteningly quickly.
"…Ah."
Michael's body tilted forward. The possession had allowed him to temporarily contain an absurd amount of power, but he had just emptied almost all of that borrowed foundation into a single attack.
His body lost strength. The world spun. Michael started falling from the sky.
Before gravity could properly claim him, however, a strange coldness separated from his body.
Whoosh.
The ghost emerged from his back.
The silver in Michael's hair rapidly retreated until it returned to black. The frost patterns covering his skin disappeared, and his eyes returned to normal.
At the same time, the enormous Ice Wheel shattered into countless silver fragments that dissolved into the Netherworld.
Michael continued falling, but before he could touch the ground, he stopped. His body hung awkwardly in the air.
"…?"
The ghost floated beside him. Compared to before, her translucent body appeared noticeably dimmer. The silver glow beneath her skin had faded, and even her long black hair seemed slightly less substantial.
Apparently, lending Michael that much of herself hadn't been free.
Michael slowly straightened himself with the aid of the invisible force.
"Thanks."
The ghost looked at him.
"You owe me. Pay me."
Michael shook his head with a wary laugh.
"Right."
He wasn't going to argue, especially when the payment was something he had already agreed to.
"Two crystals."
"Yes."
Michael opened his hand. Two Evolution Essence Crystals appeared above his palm.
The ghost immediately floated closer.
Michael tightened his fingers.
Crack.
Both crystals fractured simultaneously. Spiderweb-like lines spread across their surfaces before the two crystals shattered. They dissolved into two streams of pale essence.
Michael guided both streams toward her.
"There."
The essence entered her spiritual body.
Whoosh.
Her entire figure trembled. The evolutionary energy spread throughout her translucent form before disappearing into depths Michael couldn't perceive.
Again, the amount was insignificant compared to the sheer scale of her existence. Yet unlike the first time, there was at least a change now.
The dimness caused by Divine Incarnation Possession gradually faded. Her outline became clearer. The silver glow beneath her translucent skin strengthened.
Michael's eyes narrowed.
"So it actually helps recovery too?"
Now that he thought of it, it wasn't actually surprising. However, this was indeed a wasteful method.
However, Michael's attention was soon taken by something else.
The moment his connection with the ghost ended, several panels appeared in front of him, informing him that a change had appeared in his rank advancement quest. This was the second time in three days, but the first time hadn't made Michael happy.
However, this time there was a pleasant surprise.
