Chapter 1206: More Evolution [3]
Chapter 1206: More Evolution [3]
With his luck, he could enter an evolution expecting to wake up a week later and somehow open his eyes four years afterward with his Rank Advancement Quest politely informing him that he had three days remaining.
The possibility sounded ridiculous, but Michael wasn't willing to discover whether it actually was.
Then there was the third problem.
Evolution Points.
Before Michael took control of the Empire and gained access to its enormous resources, his accumulation of Evolution Points had been completely insignificant. Knowing he could evolve and actually possessing enough Evolution Points to do so were two very different things. Every major evolution became increasingly expensive.
His personal evolution had always existed as an option. Putting aside the fact that he had an entire legion to develop, even when he had a lot of Evolution Points to use, spending an enormous amount on himself without knowing what the result would be wasn't something he could casually do.
After all, after possessing millions of Evolution Points, Michael knew he'd need three million points to evolve. Such a jump felt demonic and unreasonable to him.
After all, the previous evolution had only cost a few thousand. However, though he felt it was unreasonable, he could see a pattern.
Evolution to High Human cost 100 Evolution Points, and its performance could roughly be compared to a Two- to Three-Star Extraordinary grade creature. True Human cost around 2,500 Evolution Points, which could be compared to a One- to Two-Star Epic grade creature. This was 25 times the cost it took to evolve to a High Human.
Comparing the changes being a True Human brought to him, Michael could indeed say a True Human was worth more than 25 times a High Human. But what was three million?
That was one thousand two hundred times the cost it took to evolve to a True Human.
Though compared to monsters, who needed evolution more than intelligent races that could become Demigods even without evolving their race, making it make sense that monsters would cost less to upgrade, something Michael had theorized in the past, three million was still a huge jump.
This made Michael feel that perhaps his next evolution would be comparable to a Three-Star Legendary creature, or even better.
Would this evolution bring him into the territory of Myth grade?
However, there was no way for Michael to know, and the greater expectations made him even more unwilling to risk anything or spend a lot during his Rank Advancement Quest duration.
Unfortunately, with several crises now hanging over his head, Michael needed to start looking for major power boosts, which brought him back to Spartan.
If evolving himself directly carried too many unknowns, there was a simple alternative. He could test the process on someone else first. And Spartan was perfect.
Both were True Humans. Naturally, Michael wasn't foolish enough to assume their evolutionary paths would be identical simply because they currently shared the same race.
Two creatures of the exact same species could evolve in completely different directions depending on their individual foundations. But Spartan could still answer several important questions.
What came after True Human? Would another racial evolution automatically push a True Human into something beyond Epic grade, or straight into Legendary? Most importantly, what kind of phenomenon would occur?
If Spartan's evolution caused something so absurd that even the Mausoleum struggled to contain it, Michael would know to be considerably more careful when eventually attempting his own.
Before today, Spartan had been an experiment Michael wanted to conduct eventually. Now Michael could afford to stop postponing it.
His perception focused entirely on the rocky valley. Crimson light continued spreading between the mountains.
Michael had deliberately prepared Spartan's evolution differently from the others. Prince, Ghost, Fade, Purple, Blue, and Lily were being strengthened because Michael wanted stronger undead. Spartan was being strengthened for the same reason. But he was also going first.
A pathfinder.
If Michael eventually intended to discover what existed beyond his own True Human race, he preferred seeing someone else walk through that door before him.
And depending on what emerged from the valley once Spartan's evolution finished, Michael might finally decide whether it was time for him to follow.
However, for now, nothing was happening.
However, Michael wasn't done yet.
His figure disappeared from above the island. When he reappeared, he stood in a completely different region of the Mausoleum.
It was far away from Lucky's evolution and equally distant from the island where the other seven undead were undergoing their transformations.
Michael raised one hand. An object appeared above his palm.
It resembled a strange candle, though calling it one wasn't entirely accurate. Its body was pale white with faint golden patterns running along its surface.
Heavenly Enlightenment Incense.
One of the three Epic-grade treasures Michael had managed to obtain from the Origin Battlefield. Among everything he had acquired there, this was one of the items he considered most valuable to his immediate advancement.
Its purpose was simple. Comprehension. Once activated, the incense could temporarily increase the user's comprehension ability.
For Michael, who needed to somehow comprehend a Domain before even reaching Rank Four, its value was obvious.
Especially now, when Michael had also discovered a method of experiencing Ice Wheel through the Demigod ghost's possession. Everything was beginning to align almost perfectly.
There was only one problem.
The Heavenly Enlightenment Incense was consumable. Once he used it, it would eventually disappear. Michael had no idea when he would find another one.
The Origin Battlefield might contain more, but there was absolutely no guarantee he would ever encounter the same treasure again.
Using it now could dramatically accelerate his progress toward comprehending a Domain. But once it was gone, it was gone.
Michael stared at the incense for several moments. Then his eyes gradually narrowed.
There was another possibility. A gamble.
Michael closed his eyes. His consciousness extended toward the Heavenly Enlightenment Incense.
It wasn't the ordinary perception he used to inspect an object. Instead, he activated a skill he rarely had opportunities to use.
The one used to connect his soul to an inanimate object.
